These songs sung in Navajo remind me of my grandma and grandpa. I can remember hearing these songs when I was a little girl, I want my children to experience the same thing I did when I was little and when I used to hear these songs all the time at revivals!
To me it is only a way to communicate with each other just the say as any other language. The only language no other being or satan does not know is the Speaking in Tongues, utterance. A navajo can use his/her language in hynms if he/she wants to, there is no wrong in doing so becuase it is his/her language. Therefore it is not wrong.
Some say the navajo language is sacred, I am a Navajo and a christian. Our language was given to us by God himself, no other God or Gods exist but only him. If our language is sacred wouldn't any other language be as well?
This may be our mother earth but it is still not my home becuase I am just passing through, my treasures are in heaven. It is not only the white man who hurt or distroy the land. Every race has done their share is that part.
I find it a little weird and odd that Navajo Christians sing Christian hymns and prayers in the Navajo language. I mean, from what I've been taught, the Diyine Diné -The Holy People or deities - can only understand prayers and blessings in the Navajo language. So wouldn't that be a paradox, for praying to God in a language that would actually be praying to the various Navajo gods and adhering to the traditional teachings. So just uttering the Navajo language is a very sacred rite to the gods.
@daybreakwarrior Well I don't want to say their misconceptions because you must understand; that insults and discredits the generations of elders that taught those lessons. The Navajo language is sacred and was created by the Diyine Diné and when one speaks the Diné langauge, Haashch’ééłti’í and Haaschch’é’óghaan listen. And its also weird when Navajos sing hyms like this when Navajo prayers first bless Nahasdzáán Shimá and Yádiłhił Shitaá, because the Earth provides, shelters, and heals.
@dinefellowship you been brain washed. you are native and you will always be. where do you think you come from. who raised you. why go back on your teachers. your parents, elders.
AHHH!!! I LOVE this song!! I remember being real little and running around the tent at the camp meetings. but every time i heard the first verse i'd come running to sit next to my parents and just listening. makes me home sick! thanks for putting this up! ^_~*
to achee 2012 i have apache and navajo in my blood but im not full indian, and i am pretty white, but just because i am doesnt mean i cant agree with you because i do very much and i hate what this world has become and how they are using our land! they dont understand how lucky they are to have what they do and so they misuse it. and for that i agree with you on your comment
Your Navajo, you shouldn't be thinking that way. If we don't respect that this world IS our home we lose it. This way of thinking is the white way, and the white way don't think of this world a our mother and that's why they hurt the land and the people that live among her.
@daybreakwarrior - we shall see where we will end up. right now we are going on "Gin Ni". i think we all pray for one purpose "Hope". personally i hope to be somewhere there is no suffering, may it be heaven or the spirit world. One thing i know i will not denounce my race which is Dine', and we have a culture, tradition and way of life. as Dine' i respect western/traditional way of life. Oh yes u will say "Thou shall not worship other Gods". But like i said we pray for one purpose "Hope".
@achee2012 No disrespect to you, but as a Native who is a Christian, I believe that this world is not my home. However, I do firmly believe that this Earth that God created, must be taken care of. It is part of the Christians responsibility to take care of God's creation. But in the end, I worship the Creator (God) and not the created (Earth).
you really really need to read the bible and maybe you would understand that this world .....iguess your mother(earth) was only made for a time until god comes and takes us to our true home so i strongly disagree with you this world is not our home our real home is with god.
I might be left alone but I know deep inside that I have a Beautiful home to go back too. thank you Jesus for all you've done for me here on thi earth.
Thank God that this world is not our eternal home. Make sure you are prepared to meet the Lord Jesus Christ in the end. Admit u r a sinner, Believe that God sent us His only Son to pay the price for our sins by dying on the cross of Calvary; Confess Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then live for him till u die. Its as simple as that. THEN U WILL REIGN WITH HIM FOREVER IN HEAVEN THRU ETERNITY! O make sure u go to church so u can learn more about God so u can serve Him better. I'll Pray 4 U!
