  • Why is that black guy laughing at the end? I never knew paying high gas prices was funny?

  • Having gas at $4.00 was a good thing. Look at all the great small european cars that are hitting the market soon like the Ford Fiesta, Scion iQ, Fiat 500 and others, all because of that gas price spike last year. Production of electric and hybrid cars are ramping up as well. Yes, I like gas at $4.00 a gallon. It means less SUV owners who drive like maniacs, racing to get to the next red light and cutting people off in the process.

  • @i90east ...you're an idiot....

  • Turning the fan down on the A/C does nothing to decrease fuel consumption. It only turns the electric fan down, not the compressor. Setting the temperature higher, does however use less compressor power, since it has to cycle less to achieve its set temperature. Keeping your starter's longevity in mind is also a good idea. I also am a hypermiler, but I don't do the starting technique, for as the previous commentor said, it actually uses more gas to start the car than it does to let it idle.

  • 1. Turning off your car would make sense for a train but doing it all the time is hard on your starter. If you are stopped for 30 seconds or less it takes as much fuel to start it than you save by turning it off. 2. Turning down the a/c fan speed will not improve economy. The compressor still has to run just as much to maintain the temperature.

  • If your more than 3 cars back at a red light, turning off your car is fine... if your towards the front of the line, it's rude.

Readings I've taken off of new car compressors show that there is a difference if you set climate control to 75 instead of 65. Cars from the 60s & 70s are more constant load. It doesn't save much, but no single thing does. You add them all together, and you save 30% or more on your fuel budget.

Maybe only $20-$30 a month, but some people have other motives as well.
