  • I love soto makikomi! in the london youth games, all my straight ippons were from it!

I had to fight an international gold medalist and i was a yellow and he was blue!

He did take 1.30 mins to floor me!

  • Uchi mata always gives me problems. I just don't get how to get him over, you have to have lots of kuzushi which I am getting. maybe my reap or my turn isn't good enough

  • @greenbay357 Someday it will just click and it will work... Stop thinking a lot, just try it at will at randori... I assure you: IT WILL CLICK IN!!! One advice: try to twist down your opponent as if you were turning the wheel of a big truck, always facing his face (in other words: you will bring him down bellow your face) while you read with the leg just like a horse trying to topple over the rider!!!

  • @loudenvier read = reap!!!

  • @greenbay357 I agree 100%. Just keep trying and it will click. Once it does its a beautiful throw.

  • beautiful.

  • Beautiful throw!

  • Hi loudenvier. I know who you are from the JudoForum. This is a great video! Wonderful ippon especially when you consider your experience at the time. Yes, I agree that belt color doesn't matter but experience does and pull executed a nice throw!

  • @droman30 This was 10 years ago!!! Today I don't live near this place anymore, and it almost brought tears to my eyes to be reminded how I miss my very first sensei... Time to call him again and just say hello, its been more than 7 years I left the city where he teaches for good (he should be now 80 years-old), but I still remember and carry on his teachings... Judo gave me a lot of things, but also an extra father in the figure of this sensei here, sensei Braga.

  • NICEEE reaction!!!

  • i understand it must be harder but to be around more experianced players must be very helpfull because you can learn from them right what rank/belt are you now?

  • I was promoted to shodan 2 years ago.

  • @JudoAccount you have no idea how right you are. im a black belt and i train exclusively with other shodans.

  • I'm impressed that a yellow has that kinda reflex to go for that throw. usually a player needs to through 100's of Uchi Komi for that sort of reaction.

    Great stuff.

  • Thanks! At that time I did around 200 to 300 uchikomi a day already... Here in Brazil we still very much base Judo training in uchikomi. My sensei says this: "Judo is: uchikomi + uchikomi + uchikomi and uchikomi"... And he is is no way downplaying randori, nage-komi and shiai by saying that.

  • wow, that is intense! It isn't suprising that Brazil produce some fantastic judoka. Are you still actively training now? If so what grade are you?

Might have to spend a few months in Brazil training :P

  • This is an old footage, I am shodan right now (1st degree black-belt). I am not currently training Judo in the formal sense, as I've ruptured my ACL of the left knee, but since I can still do newaza I got back to BJJ classes, and I am a purple belt in BJJ still, but I hope to get the black-belt too. There is a funny video I uploaded of myself doing solo uchikomi after my knee injury, you'll see why I can't do tachiwaza until I get my reconstruction surgery! I'll post it as a video response.

  • There it is, the video response showing myself doing solo uchikomi after my knee injury...

  • cool man!!!

  • Wow, just great. thumbs up. i managed to throw a black belt with this throw too, and im a yellow belt. well, sometimes one is lucky, sometimes one isnt

  • Dosent matter weather your a bit lucky, its all part of the fight, impressive throw... In my club a no-Belt once pulled of a Kata Gruma!, to be fair it was agianst another no-belt but it was impressive!, when we asked him about it he said he got it from youtube! lol!

  • Top Throw!

  • And a luck one too!!! Thanks, anyway, for the undeserved merit...

  • faixa marron fudido da poha

  • Olha o palavreado!!! hehee ... aí, nos seus favoritos só tem makikomi, tu é mau com seus companheiros de treino, heim? Abraços.

  • agente naum se permite dar esse tipo de vacilo

sim é verdade eu treino todas as variações do makikomi

  • I was in the same situation as you, my friend! the black belt (my instructor, no less)went for kosoto gake. I saw it and turned in for Uchi Mata. I've never seen the guy fly so high. I'm a foot taller than him but he was way above my head haha. Yellow belts kick ass! ;)

  • Wow great throw, and you were a yellow belt too!

  • kosoto gake mate uchi mata makikomi...ahh i miss the old days of real judo

  • :-) Me too! Mainly now that I'm a crippled black belt with a non-functional knee!!!!

  • great uchi mata!!

  • Bigg =)

  • Bigg =)

  • justs show belts dont mean a anything in a fight

  • I think you've been a little lucky on this one, but it's part of the game. Well done. :)

  • Little luck? You are overestimating me :-) It was sheer luck!!! hahahaha Even now that I'm a black belt I was never able to do such devastating uchi-mata-makikomi again against another high-skilled judoka.

  • im young but its all i always say...the better person doesnt always win..1 slip up and the opponent can capitalize..the belt is only used to tie gi..

  • I like the flow of techniques.

  • nice uchi-mata ^^ was that a training fight?

  • A little shiai... a meeting for mutual benefit :-)

  • nice ouchi gari.

  • Ouchi-gari??? It was Uchimata-makikomi... Anyway, thanx!!!

  • I think the guy was referring to the set up. You set him up with an ouchi gari and went into an uchimata.

    Great combo.

  • Very encouraging! It's very often about opportunity.
