What a great shot at 1.12. Almost surrealistic. The tanks rolling out on the field followed by the fighterplanes. Imagine your a German soldier seeing the great Red Army approach like that ! Hell, i'd shit my pants and run !
286 I saw your other responses. The Russians did need help with logistics. I don't deny that. They still would have won the war without our help it just would have taken longer. They had too much numerical superiority. I actually have great respect for the Germans. They had very limited resources and numbers, however, they were very intelligent and well trained. They made too many mistakes. They could have won.
Japan had a good navy but that was it. They had little to no heavy armored forces yet we struggled like hell to take Iwo Jima. Our commanders stated we would lose around 2 million men if we were to conduct a invasion of Japan. Thus we used the bomb. It was not just to defeat Japan but to also intimidate the Russians from going any further than Berlin because trust me they would have ran us out of Europe if they wanted to. Don't overestimate the land lease deal.
There are so many great books out there on the War, and the memoirs of Churchill, Eisenhower, etc. on how the Berlin "problem" was going to be handled. Or course the fall of Berlin was very important. And yes the Russian's contribution was enormous, and they lost a vast disappropriate number of troops & civilians..some of that "self imposed" my friend.
Lend-lease, may read up on some of the polticis of that too. Stalin also saw it as a way to "jump start" the Russian economy.
"we took the easy way out, and used the bomb"?? I see, so what would the "other" solution, that would have minimized looses on both sides? you minimise Lend-lease, Stalin thought it was manna from heaven, and ordered that all markings as much as possible be removed from equipment that was made in the USA, as he did want that to be perceived as "weakness" on hi part, getting so much aid from the West.
..Churchill warned Truman to "shake hands with the Russians as far East as possible."
"Japan had a good navy but that was it"..obviously you never had any family that was in the Pacific theater( and actually fighting on the ground) I DID..and like the powers that be in US military you also "underestimate" the strength and fighting ability of the Japanese solider. Which controlled China, India, South East Asia, Philippines, Korea, Manchuria...you don't do that with just "a navy"..and all the logistics needed to support that, which the Russians never could do on their own.
Russianroots, Iwo Jima was heavily fortified by the Japs with bunkers, artillery, and tunnels. So the fight was tough, yes of course, but in spite of that, the battle was won. We inflicted over 3 times the casualties we took on the Japanese. Yeah, all battles can be tough, but we still did it.
Sounds like you have a real nit-picky point of view there.
And you're right, we used the bomb to eliminate a high casualty count on our side. So, what? Your life wasn't at stake.
Do you think the U.S. and Brits had the grit to take Berlin? Read the book Tigers in the Mud by German Panzer ace Otto Carius. He fought on both fronts and is opinionated about the difference between American and Russian soldiers.
Of course the U.S. & U.K. had the grit to take Berlin. They crossed the English Channel, and then the Rhine, what makes you think that Berlin with it's children and grandfathers would've stopped them?
I'm still waiting for you to explain how you came to the conclusion that Germany could've turned the U.S. into a German speaking nation. You made the claim, now back it up.
I have no doubt that the Soviets were more vengeful than we were, but that doesn't mean that we couldn't do the job.>
Of the major powers that fought in WW2, the U.S. had the lowest casualty rate, and I have the source to back me up on it. Unlike the Soviets that killed about 4 million German military, but the Soviets also lost about 11 million military to the Germans. They just expended more bodies, that's all.
Did I read your comment right? The Russians defeated 85% of the Zionist army? The Germans were Zionists? Are you fucking serious?
And the Russians won the big battles in Russia. Although, they couldn't defeat Finland though. You know, Finland, one of the countries that they invaded in Sept. of 39, despite the fact that they signed a non-aggression pact with them, and Poland, in 1932, and now violated it. That Russia? Wow, you must have had your head stuck way up in Stalins ass.
Why get personal? That's right because I have dealt too many facts for you to advance your agenda. I meant Nazi army not Zionist. That was a error on my part. The Nazis hated the Jews. Yes, Finland dealt Russia a embarrassing defeat. Yes, they invaded Poland too. What does that have to do with their victory over Germany. Lets stick to the subject like you suggested.
Finland gave Russia 'a embarrassing defeat"???when was this, not the 1939 SinO_Finland war you are talking about, yes the Fins fought greatly, but eventually lost that, just out numbered,
Yes, I'm sad to say America has fought more wars in its short history. God has blessed me with resources and some gifts. I even know what the future holds for America. What I did not find out for myself God sent people to tell me. The world is going to change very soon. It's important for people to quit hating one another and seek Yahweh and accept his son Yeshua. If your heart is truly genuine then he may bless you too.
Also, the vast majority of wars Russia has fought have been in self defense. By nature Russians are peaceful despite the poor leadership they have endured over the ages. Right now the bear is being poked and provoked. How long will they continue to take it?
Russianroots, I'm confident that I was staying on the topic. WW2, the fall of Berlin, but mostly Stalin.
The Soviet Union did not enter WW2 in self defense. With Hitler starting the war in Europe, Stalin seen this as an opportunity to invade Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Where was the "self defense"?
Throughout this debate, you come on to me as a "Mother Russia" lover, despite the fact you're flying the U.S. flag. I abhor Stalin, for he was no better than Hitler.
Are we still on WW2? What buffers was Stalin trying to create? Certainly not Finland. Or was Stalin just trying to retrieve territory that Russia lost from the WW1, after they had to bow out of WW1?
You say "buffers", I say violations of the non-aggression pact with Poland and Finland, to grab territories back.
And if Stalin "knew" he would have to wage war with Hitler back in September of 39, then why wasn't Russia better prepared for it?
Why do you think he got rid of all his generals for the exception of a few after the conflict with Finland? I'm not going to act like I have all the answers. Germany was very powerful. It took many peoples to defeat them. Yes, the USSR was not angels. Neither are we. Research our history. Research what our nation was truly founded upon but make sure you have the open mind and the stomach to accept it.
"Research what our nation was truly founded upon..."
Okay, the subject is being changed from WW2 to the "founding" of our nation. If you're suggesting a land grab, and all the bloodshed that comes with it, then you'll get no argument from me. Oh yeah, we have some "skeletons in the closet", so to speak, but keep in mind your term "founded". However, there is a slight difference with us and 1939 USSR. The USSR was not forming it's country, like we were. It took quite a while to form the U.S.
There are aspects of the Soviet empire I respect. There are some I don't like their disregard for God. Funny that Stalin reopened the churches during WW2. I like Putin. He stands his ground for what he believes in and there are not many people like that these days. Most people lack courage. He also has rebuilt a nation that was in shambles but they have a ways to go and he will be their president again in three years. He believe he has a special destiny but that is a entirely different subject.
You are saying Stalin purged his army to make it stronger?? I say he committed mass murder on a GIGANTIC scale. He purged his Generals because he was a lunatic/madman with mass hysterria and was paranoid his own shadow was trying to unseat him.
No. I agree with you. Stalin thought he was making it stronger. He was wrong but the Russians learned from their mistakes and capitalized on Hitler's stupidity.
Battle for Berlin?, they ,Russians where fighting old men and Hitler youth, big deal, they should have won. Germany was already beaten. it was all political for Stalin
LOL..you are a fool that believes his own press. Russia "alone saved the world", is that the mindless crap they still teach in Russian schools about the 'Great Patriotic War".as most Russians call WW2..Which was fought in a few more places than between Moscow and the Elbe river, as the Americans decided ON THEIR OWN, to by-pass Berlin as it held no military value, and most of the German war machine was still operating in the Ruhr Valley area, Just like Hitler "wanted" Moscow, Stalin did Berlin
Your profile, or lives confession, says you like books especially the "Eastern Front"..was the whole of ww2 fought on that front, speaking of fronts during the entirety of WW2, how many "fronts" did the great Russian Army fight on, at the same time?
Where was the mighty Russian Navy & Air Force that was pounding German cities & war production to dust?Where was Russia is the Pacific? N<Africa/Italy/N.Atlantic/what supplies did Russia "give" to her "allies" while fighting on a 12,000 mile front?
I will make this easy for you. Soviet Union destroyed 85% of the Nazi Army. Is that not a amazing percentage considering we have been taught in American schools that we won the war? That goes both ways my friend. Also, notice we did not even enter the war until the Nazis were in retreat mode back to Berlin. We have always been a nation that has feared casualties because our leaders realize that means political suicide. We took the easy way out in the Pacific by using the bomb.
Russianroots, where did you ever get the idea that if not for the Soviet Union, we would be speaking German? You can't be serious!
Germany never had any intention, or even the capability to invade the U.S.
And don't downplay the the U.S. and the U.K. in helping the Soviets to take Berlin. Thanks to the USAAC and the RAF, Berlin was reduced to rubble, preventing the Germans to use the city as a fortress, which benefits the defenders.
@Russianroots amen to that....American here and we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the people of the former Soviet Union for defeating Nazi Germany...hell by the time we landed on D-day, the Russians had already destroyed the 6th army at Stalingrad and beaten the Germans back at Kursk. Russia did the most to defeat the Germans, plain and simple.
