@braianascua Hello, at that point it may still not yet be perfectly flat, which is what you want to aim for. This will give you the best contact to you CPU cooler
@deuketc Yeah i kinda thought that its kinda hard though cause i am doing it to my ps3 and the cpu and gpu is connected to the board. thanks for the help.
Anyone else notice that the vcore temp was lower on the lapped test result. You can see it on the asus monitor. Its not much but enough for a few degrees c.Very nice drop in temps though. Will be doing the same to my q9450 now.Nice vid.
so the total average overholle core temps are. before high temps =237c low temps =114c after high temps=176c low temps=99c gain in percent is in high temps = 34.6% in low temps = 15.1% nice results, wonder how it will be in air-cooled system.
@mipjevdee in this test i was using a Dtek fuzion waterblock (not lapped). Before that, i was using a termalright true120 and i did lap that as a test run, just to get a some practice before i tried a CPU.
The temp. difference is insane! Instead of buying a more expensive cooler, people can buy cheaper ones and lap the surfaces isntead, Great video thanks. Will definitely be lapping my processor.
@taimoor006 Actually, lapping the CPU but not the CPU cooler is rather useless. Just lapping the CPU cooler (which has much worse imperfections) can result in a 5-10 degree Celsius reduction. Doing both is the most useful although you have to also apply thermal compound in the right amount and manner.
@Vihsadas Hi, thanks.. Ive tried a few things to help with temps. I first replaced the stock cooler with a zalman, then a thermalright true 120, then the water cooling setup,, all helped but lapping was really effective. Good Luck!
@deuketc The temp difference is almost hard to believe. Anyways, I am in the process of a rebuild--I am ordering thermal compound on Monday. Found some stuff new to me--am considering Arctic Silver 5, Arctic Cooling MX3, or maybe Indigo Xtreme. Any thoughts? The Indigo requires CPU to be run for 5-10 mins. at 90-100 C (by disabling CPU cooler fan) to melt the compound. Sounds a bit dicey.
@DiGiTaLdAzEDM HI, this was the first time i tried this, and i didn't expect it to help that much..been running the q6600 for a while now, tried a few different coolers zalman, thermalright,, but nothing helped as much.. its something you really got to try for yourself. for the thermal compound i had been using artic silver5 but recently ive changed to mx3 so far i think it spreads easier and its also non conductive, just used it on a 5870.. Good Luck!
@gippula Hi. are you using 2 fans with your cooler for push pull config? what thermal compound are you using? Im using artic silver 5 which can help temps. good case airflow can also help. temps dont sound too bad though.. i try to stay under 70c full load when aircooling
Nice temps after just lapping CPU. When you showed lapping result after 600 grid it was clear how your heatsink was far away from flat. I have the same problem with mine heatsink. Temps between cores on my Q9550 can differ up to 15 deg C, so no perfect heatsink too. I'm planning to lap my CPU and (cooler if needed) today, so I hope it will have some good temps - mainly to run my fan at lowest settings, because I like the silence :)
LOL i have with my Q6700 @ 3.2 Ghz with the Coolermaster GeminII with 2 Xigmatek´s idl core 1-4 between 15-22°C and on last never higher then 38°C the cores^^ lol^^
OH MY GOD, that's even shiner than how i was able to get, do we really have to use lower grit to higher? i used 600 -> 800 -> 2000 grit

Results were with the lapping of just the cpu correct, not with a lapped water block?
im seriously concidering this.. since im getting high temps at 4.2 on a i7 920.
Awesome video!!

and is there any 5000 grit sandpaper?

yeah 20 degrees is to much i think is coz the thermal paste
the old one was a poor apply
after the lapping ++ new apply
well it was a nice drop of temperatures
but mostly cox the thermal and the lapping
has not technique but..ill give a 3 out of an scale of 5
due poor technique..

It is NOT possible in any way to shave 20 degrees of the temperature just by cpu lapping!
e13373 1 year ago
@e13373 on average the drop was about 12 degrees, core temp showed a 20 drop but the IHS wasn't very flat to begin with.

@gippula
Try changing the Distance to TJ Max setting in RealTemp according to your CPU model.
deuketc has set his to 90 on all 4 cores. This will show lower/proper temps accordingly.
