Does Simon Mayo even like films ?

I watched WTWTA yesterday and loved it. It's wymsical and charming with just a slight dark, twisted edge. It's a great example of how computer-generated effects SHOULD be used: while the creatures themselves are real puppets with people in them, their facial expressions are enhanced with CG. It's done so well that it's not a distraction but an ENHANCEMENT.

Michael Bay et al, pay attention in class! SFX should NOT BE the story; they are just a tool.

The creatures looked amazing. The story had depth and the film as a visual piece was geogeous to look at. I think it was a really good and at heart sweet story.

I don't understand Mayo's "focus" comment. Kermode is always concise, I think, and always wirth listening to, so yeah, why is Mayo so bored with him all the time?
