@fillupabucket Come on... Dog fights, engaging ground targets without having to point your nose. shooting missles, shooting jets on your 6. engaging multiple targets.
@MultiIPwnage Missiles like the ASRAAM can already do that? Where would you store all of the rounds? Aerodynamics would become an issue, as would stability and the balance of the aircraft with something that heavy moving around. It's a silly idea that you've not really thought through.
3D or unmanned STV rejection fast-talk may cost some their program and job: E.g., the LAVI fighter. Saying the F35 can do what that F22 for cheaper is a gross over estimation of its abilities. It was never intended to be anywhere near as effective as the F22. The F35 is like a pick up truck and the F22 is a formula one car built for a specific purpose. The F35 can do more but it will never be an air superiority fighter like the F22.
underestimatig the manuverability of the f35. the way you talk about it makes it sound like your flying a b52. it reportedly is just as good at turning as a f16, which are pretty damn manuverable. plus remember with the f22 your seeing low speed handling, high speed is where most of the combat will take place. also we have never seen a f35 demo so how can you even judge the manuverability of it? f35A about 50 mill; f22 140 mill. thats 2.8 f35s to 1 f22 so 3-1
The F35 has one massive turbo fan engine that is good for thrust but no thrust vectoring like the F22. It may cost 1/3 but the F22 will shoot down 3 in very little time.
with the f-22 demos, your only seeing low speed manuvering. thats pretty much useless in most combat situations as most take place at supersonic speeds and up there, thrust vectoring doesnt provide as much of an advantage. im not questining the abilities of the f22, i know is the best fighter in the world, but the f35 is right behind it. its weapons systems are actually ahead of the f22's. just look up the EO DAS for the f35. it can fire a missle at a plane BEHIND it!
If combat is above supersonic speeds then someone needs to tell the Russians they are building their jets wrong. I know the F35 is going to be a great overall jet but it will never be a replacement for the F22 as people claim.
haha yeah, guess they didnt get that memo. well thats just my thoughts. ive yet to see the f35 anywhere near its limits, only then can i make a clear judgment about it. in any case 1v1 airial combat, the f22 will own that areana for some time to come.
ummm, i never said they wernt. I just think that in the air superiority role, the f-35 can perform just as good as the f-22 in bvr. and the odds of a stealth fighter getting in visual range is slim. so with that mindset, it would make sence to invest in the f-35 due to the cheaper cost and lower maintainability.
Yeah i agree. i think 182 raptors is far more then enough to dominate the skys. altho they could make more unmanned planes like pretator. no risk of human life.
very true. people say that number is not enough to make a differance, but when you look at other countries you see that they only have, at most,100 of their best fighters. people also forget that we have close to 1000 f-15's, still one of the best air superiority fighters in the world. and lets not forget that we have more f-16's than most countries have toatal planes. when we replace all of those with the f-35, our airforce will be decades ahead of everyone.
@triplepogi2009 That supposedly were never revealed to Russia even though it's designing the T-50 which just "SO HAPPENS TO LOOK JUST LIKE" the f-22........
@triplepogi2009 all of our aircraft still have classified specs, the ones we export are water down machines. the f22 and f35 are not being exported currently.
Dude this is my last reply, I'm just irritated that people somehow still reply to a 1 year old comment like this (I've done the same mistake on some comments though, but this is another thing).
Next reply to this comment I will really delete from my inbox.
@triplepogi2009 You said that last time, so I don't believe you! And I knew you were angry, hypocrite. "I've done it before, but since it wasn't me doing it this time, it's different!" Way to be a dumbass and admit you irritate yourself.
Either way, the comment was a top comment; who really looks at how old it is? Quitcherbitchin.
pointless? you're telling me you wouldn't pull this off if you couldn't shake an bogey pursuing at close range? especially a bogey that cannot perform high alpha maneuvers and would end up flying right past so you can turn the tables on him?
who said anything about them not being able to perform high alpha manouvers? anyways im sure a bogey can just turn round as fast as the pursued can speed up again.
It isn't about speed when the bogey flies right by if your platform can target and engage without having to catch up. Once a missile is locked and launch you're in trouble.
20g....? you realize that the most ever for a space launch is less than 10g? 20g? 196 m/s/s acceleration would most definitely kill anyone because there is no suit capable of handling that much force for long periods
though you guys are right about the BVR or Beyond Visual Range abilities of the raptor. you do know there are planes out there with huge electronic jamming pods that could possibly get close enough to a raptor to engage it. thankfully this thing maneuvers above everything else, and to the guy who sad they doubt it could be a f-16 your an idiot. the raptor in an airshow pulls 10gs at will, it can point its nose virtually anywhere it wants, no plane would even have a chance against a raptor.
KK Goof balls let me edumacate yall. F/A 22 Raptors are Generation 5 so they are, in a sence, in a league of their own. As far as dog fighting goes the Raptor is invisible to almost any planes radar and avionics systems. Meaning the only way a mig or an F-16 (Gen 4 aircraft) to engage with a F-22 Raptor would be for them to visually find it on there own, like back in WWII. But less we forget once they find it with there eyes they still have to catch the motherfucker which they can't do anyway.
Yeah, if another aircraft was in a dog fight with a Raptor, it wouldn't really know it... Raptor, as you said is almost invisible to radar, so, if radar don't see it, missiles don't see it.
Only thing you could do was shoot the Rail Guns, or Chain Guns. Either or, depending on what aircraft it is.
I'd rather be in the Raptor though... Because i like life... D:
F22 is not for sale. Besides, it's generally acknowledged that the Israeli pilots are among the best, in particular when it comes to dogfighting. They have been training dogfights since the dawn of Israel and has become quite good at it. Ask the neighbors of Israel.
I think it can vector one nozzle up and the other down to increase roll rate dramatically, but as you say, it doesn't have any side-to-side thrustvectoring and I think it would've been more hazzle to the pilot and more to think of than any good and it would also make the nozzles way more complex and harder to maintain.
does the f-22 have vertical take off and landing like the harrier and f-35? also does it have thrust vectoring? Im not a pilot so excuse my dumb question!
Maybe so, but hovering is for choppers and they get shot down. In combat speed is important. Conserve energy and hit fast. These moves only makes good for two things: Airshow and getting shot down.
Sorry sir. Did you get me wrong, perhaps? I mean the cobra-manouver and controlled stall is good for airshows. Speed and conserving energy is the essentials and the exactly opposite of the "controlled stall". It would be an easier kill than a chopper. To induce a controlled stall, you will have to reduce speed to a point where you hardly fly anymore, and THIS is suicide in a dogfight. I assume you've never heard about anyone "executing stall" manouvers to avoid enemy fire?
You say that type of move is bad, in a dogfight, but the Migs with thrust vectoring and hydraulic controls would do a similar move when they had an enemy behind that would bleed tons of airspeed to let the enemy pass to get on their 6 and it was effective in combat.
If too much energy is to be absorbed THAT fast, he would have to take extreme manouvers that would black out the pilot in no time. Even today's fighters are limited mostly by the capabilities of the pilot, not the AC. Besides, Russkis don't have any T/V aircraft in operational mode. Just test A/C. If the forward speed is converted to vertical speed, then the AC will shoot to the sky because he couldn't bleed of the energy fast enough. Maybe in the future with pilotless AC this will work.
Many of the Mig-29 Pilots in the old Soviet Union have been doing it for years. It makes it easier for them since they didn't have fly-by-wire and also use thrust vectoring. Look up the "Corbra Maneuver"
I know that. Mig29 don't use T/V. Nor do the Su27. There are experimentals though, but that's it. They cannot hover on it's tail like this, because they are unable to balance when there's no airflow over its control surfaces. T/V-plames can. Cobra-manouver is a "controlled stall" too, but to do this you'd have to slow down and go into a stall then add power to not fall down. This is not what you'd do during battle. It's time consuming and a waste of energy to slow down like this. only airshow
You mean VTOL-aircraft? That's a different story. The F22 is not a VTOL or STOVL aircraft, so if there's no runway nearby, it is fuqed. What we're talking about is dogfighting which is becoming a thing of the past with new all aspect missiles like Python and Aim9X etc. Archer AA-11 is good too, but I don't know if it is all aspect. Anyway, there's no way a pilot would try to land this way. There's probably a reason why they got IQ-tests in the USAF after all.
i understand what your saying. My comment was for the people that say the SU-30 is the best in the world well no its at least tied for 3rd best with the F-15 and in second the F-35. but not even close to the capabilities of the F/A-22
I think we can agree to that. Su-30, which basically is a beefed up Su-27 and in overall it's not revolutionary. They've stretched the aerodynamics as far as a human body can withstand so they may be good dogfighters but with modern missiles like Aim9X and particulary the Python4, it isn't of much use as even dogfight missiles will be fired head on. Python 4 can even turn after the "target" if it misses the first time.F22 is in a league of it's own, but in a dogfight, I doubt it will beat F16.
It won't have to today, but what happens when United States' enemies have stealthfighters too? I'm afraid that the F22/F35 may have to engage in closer, but probably not dogfight as Aim9X or Pythons may kill before a dogfight commence. It's hard to predict the future with stealth in every country. Who's got the stealthiest fighter? Who's got the best detection equipment? Most likely, it will still be the west but the chinese have understood that electronics are useful.
People have said that dogfights are a "thing of the past" before, and they've been wrong. Look at Vietnam. US pilots in the Phantoms had to dogfight with just missiles, while the enemy MiGs had cannons.
the F/A-22 is in a new class of its own. Its has been tested on the F-15 which is the former greatest aircraft and the F-15 pilots didn't even see the aircraft before the Raptor was already at the point where it would of killed them.
Yes, but if by a fluke enemy aircraft manage to get within visual range of the Raptor, the F-22 might have to enter a dogfight. I believe the F-22 is the Air Force equivalent of a sniper: shoot the baddies and boogie to a new location before the MiGs know what hit 'em.
well ya that's a good way to put it. Its not like the F/A-22 is invisible its just very hard to see and if it can sneak into shooting range of an enemy aircraft(which it can) it can take out the 1 or 2 or 3,4,5 air craft at once without the enemy even having a chance to shoot at it. And if the enemy saw it then the raptor has the ability to get the hell out of their without the enemy having a chance to set up an attacking position.
lol! "See this why a lot of people dont like us." attitudes like this is why americans look like pussies to the rest of the world. always having to bite our tongues and be politically correct. this is probably the only country that people have risked life and limb to get to from almost every nation on earth!
That is sick sick nasty awesome

@triplepogi2009 It's not like I looked through all the comments to find yours, top comments are at the top. Isn't that just a strange concept?
66gt40lm 5 months ago
@66gt40lm
To think by now YT could've chosen another top comment. It's been a year for crying out loud.
triplepogi2009 5 months ago
@triplepogi2009 Make a better comment that people will vote up and you will win the game.

Next reply to my comment on this video I'll remove it from the inbox (facepalm)
triplepogi2009 5 months ago
@triplepogi2009 You seem angry, sir.

@66gt40lm
Dude this is my last reply, I'm just irritated that people somehow still reply to a 1 year old comment like this (I've done the same mistake on some comments though, but this is another thing).
Next reply to this comment I will really delete from my inbox.
triplepogi2009 5 months ago
@triplepogi2009 You said that last time, so I don't believe you! And I knew you were angry, hypocrite. "I've done it before, but since it wasn't me doing it this time, it's different!" Way to be a dumbass and admit you irritate yourself.
Either way, the comment was a top comment; who really looks at how old it is? Quitcherbitchin.

chriswillb 2 years ago
pointless? you're telling me you wouldn't pull this off if you couldn't shake an bogey pursuing at close range? especially a bogey that cannot perform high alpha maneuvers and would end up flying right past so you can turn the tables on him?
RezViper 2 years ago
who said anything about them not being able to perform high alpha manouvers? anyways im sure a bogey can just turn round as fast as the pursued can speed up again.
chriswillb 2 years ago
It isn't about speed when the bogey flies right by if your platform can target and engage without having to catch up. Once a missile is locked and launch you're in trouble.

Lol.. no its max is 9 gs
GunneruK91 2 years ago
actually it can only do 9 gs
GunneruK91 3 years ago
It is limited to 9gs to keep from killing the pilots. The plane itself can pull alot more g's the 9
korn37411 2 years ago 4
Yes, you're right. The aircraft is capable of much, much more.
If only we could.
It pushes us to our limit, and not even close to the limit of the aircraft.
IamFaider 2 years ago
Your correct, 9g is the basic point where a persons body would collapse in on itself, even with a g-suit.
I remember on the military channel that the max a human 'might' be able to survive with a good g-suit is around 12 gs.
AceOmega313 2 years ago
i am sure i read future system g suits at 20g not to far away will getlback to you
omega181222 2 years ago
Wow, I didn't know they were getting that good! Here comes the cavalry!
AceOmega313 2 years ago
20g....? you realize that the most ever for a space launch is less than 10g? 20g? 196 m/s/s acceleration would most definitely kill anyone because there is no suit capable of handling that much force for long periods
blahbot90 2 years ago 3
though you guys are right about the BVR or Beyond Visual Range abilities of the raptor. you do know there are planes out there with huge electronic jamming pods that could possibly get close enough to a raptor to engage it. thankfully this thing maneuvers above everything else, and to the guy who sad they doubt it could be a f-16 your an idiot. the raptor in an airshow pulls 10gs at will, it can point its nose virtually anywhere it wants, no plane would even have a chance against a raptor.
darkskyak1 3 years ago
KK Goof balls let me edumacate yall. F/A 22 Raptors are Generation 5 so they are, in a sence, in a league of their own. As far as dog fighting goes the Raptor is invisible to almost any planes radar and avionics systems. Meaning the only way a mig or an F-16 (Gen 4 aircraft) to engage with a F-22 Raptor would be for them to visually find it on there own, like back in WWII. But less we forget once they find it with there eyes they still have to catch the motherfucker which they can't do anyway.
ShaneMac777 3 years ago

Ask the neighbors of Israel.
spiff1003 3 years ago
Russian planes have been doing that stuff for years... Still the F 22 is the best fighter around NO DOUBT

"does the f-22 have vertical take off and landing like the harrier and f-35?" - ebut
No, it takes off straight like most planes. But other than that, it's WAY more advanced than most any other plane.
"also does it have thrust vectoring?" - ebut
Yes, it has thrust vectoring nozzles on the engine exuast, but only up and down. Testing showed no use for side to side.
TonyN737 3 years ago
I think it can vector one nozzle up and the other down to increase roll rate dramatically, but as you say, it doesn't have any side-to-side thrustvectoring and I think it would've been more hazzle to the pilot and more to think of than any good and it would also make the nozzles way more complex and harder to maintain.
spiff1003 3 years ago
now thats raw power

does the f-22 have vertical take off and landing like the harrier and f-35? also does it have thrust vectoring? Im not a pilot so excuse my dumb question!

No it does not have vertical take-off or landing and im not sure about the other thing.

Not as impressive as the Su-30 :-)
jonshepherd 3 years ago 2
I agree, the Su-30 is the king of hovering!
Athaeus 3 years ago
Maybe so, but hovering is for choppers and they get shot down. In combat speed is important. Conserve energy and hit fast. These moves only makes good for two things: Airshow and getting shot down.
spiff1003 3 years ago
"These moves only makes good for two things: Airshow and getting shot down" those things are the first rule of survival in a dogfight, kid.
forgewire 3 years ago
I assume you've never heard about anyone "executing stall" manouvers to avoid enemy fire?
spiff1003 3 years ago
You say that type of move is bad, in a dogfight, but the Migs with thrust vectoring and hydraulic controls would do a similar move when they had an enemy behind that would bleed tons of airspeed to let the enemy pass to get on their 6 and it was effective in combat.
chrisinsocalif 3 years ago
If too much energy is to be absorbed THAT fast, he would have to take extreme manouvers that would black out the pilot in no time. Even today's fighters are limited mostly by the capabilities of the pilot, not the AC. Besides, Russkis don't have any T/V aircraft in operational mode. Just test A/C. If the forward speed is converted to vertical speed, then the AC will shoot to the sky because he couldn't bleed of the energy fast enough. Maybe in the future with pilotless AC this will work.
spiff1003 3 years ago
Many of the Mig-29 Pilots in the old Soviet Union have been doing it for years. It makes it easier for them since they didn't have fly-by-wire and also use thrust vectoring. Look up the "Corbra Maneuver"
chrisinsocalif 3 years ago
I know that. Mig29 don't use T/V. Nor do the Su27. There are experimentals though, but that's it. They cannot hover on it's tail like this, because they are unable to balance when there's no airflow over its control surfaces. T/V-plames can. Cobra-manouver is a "controlled stall" too, but to do this you'd have to slow down and go into a stall then add power to not fall down. This is not what you'd do during battle. It's time consuming and a waste of energy to slow down like this. only airshow
spiff1003 3 years ago
hovering is also useful when runways have been destroyed... very useful!
electricnoodle 3 years ago
You mean VTOL-aircraft? That's a different story. The F22 is not a VTOL or STOVL aircraft, so if there's no runway nearby, it is fuqed. What we're talking about is dogfighting which is becoming a thing of the past with new all aspect missiles like Python and Aim9X etc. Archer AA-11 is good too, but I don't know if it is all aspect. Anyway, there's no way a pilot would try to land this way. There's probably a reason why they got IQ-tests in the USAF after all.
spiff1003 3 years ago
Su-30 is great but not as great as the F/A-22
ihavtugo 3 years ago 4
Su-30 is "great" compared to other aircrafts of that era, 4th gen. It doesn't hold water against either F22 nor F35.
It's just a stop-gap measure to avoid too big advantages to the F22 until the PAK/FA sometimes takes to the air.
spiff1003 3 years ago
i understand what your saying. My comment was for the people that say the SU-30 is the best in the world well no its at least tied for 3rd best with the F-15 and in second the F-35. but not even close to the capabilities of the F/A-22
ihavtugo 3 years ago
I think we can agree to that. Su-30, which basically is a beefed up Su-27 and in overall it's not revolutionary. They've stretched the aerodynamics as far as a human body can withstand so they may be good dogfighters but with modern missiles like Aim9X and particulary the Python4, it isn't of much use as even dogfight missiles will be fired head on. Python 4 can even turn after the "target" if it misses the first time.F22 is in a league of it's own, but in a dogfight, I doubt it will beat F16.
spiff1003 3 years ago
i agree. But dog fights are a thing of the past. Especially since the F/A-22 would never need to be in one.
ihavtugo 3 years ago 2
It won't have to today, but what happens when United States' enemies have stealthfighters too? I'm afraid that the F22/F35 may have to engage in closer, but probably not dogfight as Aim9X or Pythons may kill before a dogfight commence. It's hard to predict the future with stealth in every country. Who's got the stealthiest fighter? Who's got the best detection equipment? Most likely, it will still be the west but the chinese have understood that electronics are useful.
spiff1003 3 years ago
People have said that dogfights are a "thing of the past" before, and they've been wrong. Look at Vietnam. US pilots in the Phantoms had to dogfight with just missiles, while the enemy MiGs had cannons.
Don113 3 years ago
the F/A-22 is in a new class of its own. Its has been tested on the F-15 which is the former greatest aircraft and the F-15 pilots didn't even see the aircraft before the Raptor was already at the point where it would of killed them.
ihavtugo 3 years ago
Yes, but if by a fluke enemy aircraft manage to get within visual range of the Raptor, the F-22 might have to enter a dogfight. I believe the F-22 is the Air Force equivalent of a sniper: shoot the baddies and boogie to a new location before the MiGs know what hit 'em.
Don113 3 years ago
well ya that's a good way to put it. Its not like the F/A-22 is invisible its just very hard to see and if it can sneak into shooting range of an enemy aircraft(which it can) it can take out the 1 or 2 or 3,4,5 air craft at once without the enemy even having a chance to shoot at it. And if the enemy saw it then the raptor has the ability to get the hell out of their without the enemy having a chance to set up an attacking position.
ihavtugo 3 years ago
F-22 Has thrust vectoring..I would hardly describe it as a sniper..
jtlovett27 3 years ago
the missles used in Vietnam were VERY unreilable, the air force f-4's would almost always fire 2 sparrows in case one was a dud.
korn37411 2 years ago
That's not a trick people, thats a hard stall that means SPLASH in a dog fight. This plane wouldn t get leveled even if the pilot kicked the stick.
