  • Absolutely no words. play over and over

  • Scotland the Brave should be the national anthem of Scotland not the Flower of Scotland.

  • I know that Scottish people tend to have ill-feelings for the England, but I've never really heard how the Scottish feel about Ireland or Irish people, If anybody knows, an answer would be appreciated. and this song is awesome.

  • Ive been in Scotland and it was... unlike anything ive ever seen before, the people were polite, a lot of culture, proud people etc. Before I went to Scotland I thought it was all about playing golf and wearing kilts, but MAN Scotland is my favorite place on this planet now! Why didnt I go there earlier? >.>

  • Got roots going back to the earl of hambledon... Can't get much more Scottish than that!!!!!

  • It makes me want to put on a kilt and dance.

  • Why it starts with Italy? XD I'm Italian but I love scotland...

  • @Roystrang86bb Because all of the counties the song mentions have tried in the past to claim Scotland, but she is far to fierce. We the Gaels and Celts are unconquerable, and free until we die. God bless Scotland and all of Europe otherwise.

  • Disliker! the dislike bar is the length of your dick

  • Alba Gu Bragh!!

  • @athull08 You're information is incorrect Flower of Scotland is the "de facto" anthem of Scotland, Scotland as a nation does not yet have a national anthem.

  • @cameron997 That's what I meant - the song currently used as the anthem is Flower of Scotland.

This song, however, has never been used as the anthem. The original version of Scotland the Brave was formerly used as the anthem, but this is not the original, this is John McDermott's version.

  • proud to be scottish,,,my dad is from edinbugh

  • UNION FOR SCOTLAND

  • INDEPEDENCE FOR SCOTLAND

  • I love America but have Scottish in my blood makes me love Scotland just as much!

  • Alba qu Bra!!!!! I am ready to bloody march over the border after this son!

  • 49 english men disliked this video

  • Just me who wants to hit someone from england after this

  • What I don't get is the start about Italy are they singing about them in a good way or bad way,

it kinda sounds like them singing badly towards then not shure though.

  • @AirsoftWehrmacht They're talking about Italy in a good way, but just then saying they prefer Scotland. If one person says they prefer Scotland, and another person says they prefer Italy, that's doesn't mean one is right and the other is wrong, so they're not being offensive to Italy.

  • @athull08 Oh I get it now sorry I don't really know anything about Scotland it just didn't know, and are Italy and Scotland allies or something? usually most anthems that have something about another country it is their ally?

  • @AirsoftWehrmacht I don't know why it specifically chose Italy. And this is not the national anthem, that's Flower of Scotland

  • @AirsoftWehrmacht It probably chose Italy because it is completely different to Scotland, Thats what it was talking about letting Italy boast about sunny skys and soft seas, whilst the song suddenly changes to saying Scotlands wild weather and rugged landscapes are grander to me...

  • defantlay scottish words lol

  • its good i'm Scottish and my second names Scott

  • Nice one Scotland, Im English but my surname is Burn's so be easy on me... ;)

  • Magnificent!

  • @KINGxTROLL what part of the country were you in?! I live in the north east of Scotland and it's very quiet around here. Sorry to tell you but I think you just went at an unlucky time when the weather was terrible and some sort of festival was happening.

  • I'm Irish and I love this

  • as a SEVERELY biased Dane i can honestly say i have a stern respect for scotland

  • the best part of this song is at 2:53 ERIN GO BRAUGH because when timmy johnson broke his neck it was a crying shame

He wasn't really Irish but he went to Notre Dame

MacNamara crossed the street and by a bus was hit

But he was just a Scotsman so nobody give a shit IRELAND FOREVER

  • Gotta love Scotland! Ilove you Scotland...

  • aand again: 0:00 :D

  • 2014. is coming, alba gu brath!

  • @Dirty9FIL you do realise you will be nothing if you become independent? Edinburgh will be as powerful as the capital of Latvia!

  • @ChristmasTrax Maybe, but if scotland stays with england, scotland could keep itself majority white. England will be majority non white in 50years. I hope scotland stays white and independance could help this. The snp are not real nationalist but surely cant be anyworse than the liberal liblabcon who seem to hate white people

  • @ChristmasTrax There are some things worth more than money. Far more. If you work hard, you could be prosperous without England.

  • @ChristmasTrax Hi I live in Latvia but only Salacgriva but i know english n scots really well.im wierd...

  • Alan, once again, Greetings from Guthrie!

  • 1stly weird fish I'm Scottish I speak Scottish I write Scottish I AM SCOTTISH and proud if u don't like it gtf! I love this it's true

  • Love this from England. Really hope scotland stays part of the UK as would be no good for either naton if they left. x

  • "London's beck and call" ... I guess that's why the nationalists won an overwhelming majority, it all makes sense now, it's Scotlands oil, leeching bastards.

Scotland, Only nation to find oil and become poorer - fact

  • A song about the bravery of Scotland that starts by criticizing Italians, It’s a weird world in bonnie-land. Not much point singing about victorious battles if they’re still at London’s beck and call.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Sure we are we are not all unionists you know. Its them who are at London,s beck and call. And that is why the SNP,won a land slide election. In a system set up to stop such steam rolling victories. And now we get a referndum in 2014.And we can decide once and for all.If we want to stay part off the UK.What a sad image on Scotland you potray. We really do not care about the past.We are all about making a better future for our kids and grand kids. This is why we want our own nation

  • FREEDOM!!!! :D

  • I'm an Irish-American, I believe my ancestors were German Scots but I'm not sure. God Bless my Scottish brothers

  • ya i may just be a stupid "american" but scotland is british its called the british isle for a reason

  • @LordAkronos scotland has never been known as the british isle??????????

  • @6taffy7 its a chain of islands known as the British isles Google that shit

  • @LordAkronos dont need to google it im from here born and bread,

  • @6taffy7 sorry here as in cymru/wales not scotland

  • @6taffy7 ok and if you should know that its called the British isles no just England but the hole damn thing now quit hating and listing to the fucking song PLEASE!!!!

  • A Graham never forgets his roots.

Ne Oublie and Alba gu Bràth!

  • This song makes me proud to be Scottish (:

  • The song reminds me of our triumphs and makes me want to vote for independence. For all I like the union, I think we'd be better of independent. We could sell our oil to England instead of them getting it for free. The UK is basically dependant on the oil rich

North sea which is Scottish. The european oil capital is Aberdeen and it is in north east Scotland, just a 40 minute drive from where I live =P

  • @fattyMcGee97 If you like the union, why not go for Devo Max?

As an Englishman, I am proud to have Scotland in the Union and I think it would be a shame to see you go. I have many Scottish friends and I think Scotland has a wonderful culture. I fully support devolution; there are just so many divisions in the world today, it would be a shame to split up our historial union.

Don't get me wrong, I fully believe Scotland should have a referendum. Just seems stupid to split our island.

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Make Edinburgh the capital of the UK and then let England have a referendum on independence. You English must feel superior don't you. A touch of nostalgia for old empire is it?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan The historic capital of the UK is London - it is one of only two Alpha++ cities in the world.

And there's no reason why England can't have a referendum on independence; there is a campaign for it, albeit ignored.

Let's not forget that the British spread industry, democracy, good law, the concept of indivudual liberty, communications, education and healthcare around the world. Such a small island has contributed more to the world than any other nation.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan What America has done for the world still doesn't come close to British achievements at our time of superpowerdom. Even your concepts of liberty originated around the 1200s or as part of John Locke's work.

It's not that we don't like the US; that was an exaggeration in the face of a provocative comment. More accurately, we don't like US foreign policy and the often arrogant attitude of the people. American politics in general is somewhat, well, dry.

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Are you completely delusional? 'Superpower', is a post WWII term. Only the US and former USSR have ever been a superpower. Why do think the Statue of Liberty is a French gift to us. Our concept of liberty was entirely French (in its inception). Do you have the slightest clue what you are talking about? What other model of Republicanism was there in 1776? Where is Scotland’s supposed bravery in all of this?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan You are wrong. Firstly, the term "superpower" was originally used in conjunction with the Big Three - the UK, the US and the USSR.

Secondly, the term is used all the time by historians referring to European Empires - Pax Britannia was our era as a superpower. So yes, we were a superpower.

Thirdly, your entire concept of liberty is very English in it's conception. The US uses English Commone Law! The French Revolution was AFTER the American one, twat!

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Oh right we fought to free ourselves from those who gave us the concept of liberty. And for no reason at all the French gave us the statue of liberty even though our concept of liberty was English not French. Not only that, a concept of liberty is conceived the night before a revolution and does not evolve over centuries. And somehow all this has something to do with Scotland being brave. God Bless you my friend.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan The War of Independence was hugely unpopular back in Britain, where it was percieved as an attack upon our own blood. It started over taxation without representation.

The US Declaration of Independence is based entirely upon the work of English Philosopher John Locke, who believed men are "equal and independent" and had a right to "life, health, liberty or possessions," which the founding fathers changed to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan

"Do not think, that the whole, or even the uninfluenced majority, of Englishmen in this island are enemies to their own blood on the American continent. Much delusion has been practiced; much corrupt influence treacherously employed. But still a large, and we trust the largest and soundest, part of this kingdom perseveres in the most perfect unity of sentiments, principles and affections with you."

    ~ Edmund Burke MP

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan (continued)

I welcome you to try and invade. If your own analysts predict 100,000 American casualties from an invasion of North Korea, you can expect millions to be inflicted from us before you even get off the beaches.

Even if you do make it to London, you'll be faced with a guerilla war - and we all know how they turn out for America.

  • @fattyMcGee97 Great comment.

  • @fattyMcGee97 also fishing and whiskey?

  • LoL U guys crack me up ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Could anyone provide me with an instrumental version of this? I'm thinking of doing a parody of it.

  • Land of the brave! Are you high on drugs? Scotland is not even a country and still sends its politicians to dear old London. How many years has Scotland had a nationalist provincial government now, and is still yet to take the brave step of having a referendum on independence? America, Ireland, India, Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe and any other country that is independent and a republic is where you find bravery.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan All those countries you mentioned are in billions of trillions of debt, we don't use violence and Scotland gets more money per head that anywhere else in the UK, we get free universities, healthcare, prescriptions, etc whereas England does not. Scotland does not want to be a republic.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan The SNP don't want Scotland to be a Republic! They want to have the Queen as their head of state, like Canada or Australia.

You are a troll, or an ignorant American, or both. If you knew the first thing about the UK, you would know that the majority of the English (including myself) are extremely proud to have Scotland in the Union.

If you don't think Scotland is brave, you are mad. They are the fiercest soldiers on the planet (after the Gurkhas).

  • @BasilFawlty4444 If scottlands so brave why havent they fought for independence. (espicially cause there as feirce as you say) Im an Irish American so i have some major problems with the UK

  • @grappler131 What makes you so sure that they want independence? The latest polls show only about 30% in favour.

And even so, don't you think that the Scots are patient and grown up about it?

What are your problems with the UK? We are a free, democratic nation.

  • @grappler131 Scotland is part of the UK as much as England is part of it. Tony Blair is Scottish, the blue background and white crosses in the UK flag is the Scottish flag. The last Prime Minister of the UK was Gordon Brown - who is Scottish. Scotland is totally in a different situation with the UK as Ireland, India, Egpyt, etc once was. Scotland is as much of a part of the UK as is California is as much of a part of the US.

  • @grappler131 why fight for independence when countries can try work together? and whats your problems with UK, have a look at your own countries problems before you go babbling

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Good Luck!

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Good luck with what?

  • Comment removed

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Your mentality - Good luck with that.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Scotland is as much a part of the UK as Texas is part of the United States. If the Texans had a military history stretching back thousands of years, a reputation for bravery and achievement on the battlefield, nobody would argue that they cannot lay claim to being fierce on account of the fact that they are part of the US.

The Scots were not subjugated; they joined the Union in 1707. Your argument is based on flawed logic.

    Now what mentality, precisely?

  • @BasilFawlty4444 As you say Scotland is part of the UK. How can bravery be evident without a show of independence? If you understand the war of Independence (American), you would understand that being fierce and being brave do not always match. The American Patriots were brave but they did not have to be fierce because they out witted the Red-Coats. Bravery and mindless thuggery is hardly a match made in Heaven. Can America be the home of the brave without being the land of the free?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Looking through the mindless patriotism that we see in that comment, it is all too evident that you have horrific double standards.

Going by your standards, the US is neither the "land of the brave" nor the "home of the free" because the states are part of the American Union, and therefore are making no show of independence.

The Scots have their own devolved legislature, and there is little evidence to suggest that they want to leave the Union.

  • What to do with a Brit that can’t be reasoned with? What is having, “little evidence to suggest that they want to leave the Union” got to do with Scotland being brave? Are you sure you are not agreeing with me when I say that they lack bravery given that they are not a country and don’t want to be (as far as you are aware)? Why do you think they don’t want to leave Britain if it is not on account of cowardice?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan So basically, what you are saying is that the Scots are too scared to enter the international community as an independent state?

So going by that standard, is every single American state cowardly as well?

  • @BasilFawlty4444 To Q1 Yes. To Q2 What has America got to do with Scotland being brave? Why compare Scotland to states in America?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Scotland is one of four co-equal countries that make up the United Kingdom - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. These nations are very much comprable to states of the USA. Therefore, the situation is very similar.

Though there are obvious differences, for instance, these nations were at some point either independent and have their own cultures, and the UK is a unitary state, not a federal state, the situation Scotland is in is comprable.

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Wow! David Cameron is Prime Minister of four different countries. Are you sober when you write these things? America is not simply a collection of states, that’s why we have a President and a federal government. I am of course delighted that a Brit is obsessed with America, I am too. We have many Brits that have sought a better life here. Your constant reference to America only weakens your argument that there is evidence of Scotland being brave.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Don't flatter yourself; I did a module on US politics at college. I was just trying to make it clear to you the political status of Scotland. The PM is Prime Minsiter of the UK, not all four countries.

    This video explains:

    watch?v=rNu8XDBSn10

Everything I wrote is true (I'm not drunk); just one of the oddities of a 1000 year old nation.

And I'm quite happy here with my free healthcare and longer life expectancy, thank you very much.

  • @BasilFawlty4444 What makes them countries? The reason why Scotland is not a country is because it is not a political entity outside of the UK. That is why it does not have its own seat in the UN or the EU. Why do you think we have one ambassador to Great Britain and not four ambassadors to each of the four parts of the UK mentioned? On a previous comment you refer to the UK as, “a free democratic nation”. How can Scotland be a country if it is part of a “nation”?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan I guess the term "country" is favourable in comparison to "state."

It's just a term. It doesn't mean much.

  • @BasilFawlty4444 Come on mister. If we handed green cards to all you Brits, who left to turn the lights off?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Again, don't flatter yourself. You don't see Canadians clambering over the border like you see in the south. It's the same with us.

Most of us don't really like the United States. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

  • @BasilFawlty4444 How could you like any former colony, especially one that could break you Brits like a tooth-pick?

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Did you read anything anyone replied to you? Tony Blair is Scottish and as I type this the British parliament is crying about Scotland leaving. I'm watching as I type.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Polls show that support for independence in Scotland is at 38%, we have good standards of living, we're better off than England - we get free universities and prescription fees, England does not. Scotland is as much part of the UK, as is Nebraska is as much part of the US.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan

Scotland is not a dependant of the UK, so if Scotland leaves the union, it would be a separation and not independence. As for our warriors, they are very brave.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan - Please try to listen. Scotland cannot "leave Britain" as they ARE Britain just as much as the English are British. That is like saying Texas are cowards as they won't leave America. The north and south of America are part of a union like the UK is a union. And as has been pointed out Tony Blair, Gordon Brown are Scots and ran the UK. Cameron is Scots decent and prime minister. You may as well call England cowards for being part of the union. We are a union by consent.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan - By the way are you Catholic Irish decent? I assume you are. I have to ask if you think the British have no right to be in Northern Ireland do you also agree you have no right to be in America. The natives were there first. How does you being in their country differ from the Brits being in Northern Ireland?

  • @WillShakespeare2007 None of your business what my descent is. The People of Northern Ireland are British. Is it British to be so profoundly stupid that you don’t know who’s British and who is not?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan you sir, are an idiot.

  • thats no the lyrics

  • @pctv5 this is John McDermott's version

  • I think this talks too much about other nations and fighting to be the right national anthem for the new independent Scotland. Perhaps if they wrote some new lyrics. But for example the entire first verse is about Italy. Then there is a verse about fighting England, Denmark and the Romans. Get rid of all that and stick to Scotland. Just my opinion.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 these are not the original lyrics. This is John McDermott's version. The original just talks about Scotland.

  • @athull08 - Oh ok - I just read the original lyrics and I really like them apart from the verse about Scottish rain which seems like they are trying to make a joke of some kind. I personally prefer it to "The flower of Scotland" as I think there is more to Scotland than just the battle of Bannockburn. The 700th anniversary of that is 2014 and it would be a great opportunity for the Scots to use this to raise support for its push for full independence.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 What a great idea

  • That is awesome, thanks for the upload, I had no idea of the words to this tune (now I do), wow Scotland the brave alright. Cheers from Australia.

  • From France, hail the Auld Alliance !

  • greetings to our brother celts, from wales, great music

  • @6taffy7 just watched wales national anthem, my personal fave out of the uk, happy new year from scotland

  • For Alan Duncanson! (from Guthrie)

  • I love this song! hehehe!

  • All too frequently Scot=English cannon fodder.

  • I am a 4th generation Canadian, but pure Scottish (Fraser of Lovatt), I don't know why this song has impacted me so!? I think I need to buy a kilt ;)

  • @kjf63 lol im scottish and wont go as far as buying a kilt

  • It's true, what they say in the song. Scotland withstood the Roman Empire, England, just about everbody I can think of that invaded them. And if you think England beat them, you are wrong. The Scottish just joined the UK willingly.

  • @KaelMacKenneth

Willingly coz we were bankrupt at the time.

  • @KaelMacKenneth touche must of told bullshit:D

  • @gangstersteve1993 me I mean

  • @KaelMacKenneth Funnily enough, the Picts withstood the Romans, then were conquered/assimilated by the Scots!

  • @MrAbelincon Really? That is funny! But I didn't know that the Picts were different from Scots.I thought that they were the Celtic,un-christianized Scots.

  • @KaelMacKenneth Joined willingly - what a nice way you Brits have of referring to defeat and cowardice.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Wait...You think I am a Brit? Ha! I stand by what I said, and I am going to pay no mind to you, silly peson.

  • This should be the National Anthem of Scotalnd, in my humble opinion

  • @lilibeape Ah, but Scotland is Part of The UK

  • @lilibeape we dont have a national anthem sadly, we call it flower of scotland, but we're technically not a country

  • @AndyF1996 we technically are a country you retard but our national anthem is god save the queen, read a book

  • Comment removed

  • @AndyF1996 what? scotland not a country? are you insane

  • @lilibeape It is already, kid.

  • @lilibeape It is already, kid.

  • @lilibeape It is one of ours, we have several, just Flower Of Scotland is used/known more..

  • Robert Roy MacGregor.

  • Alan Duncanson...this is faer U matey!

  • Why does this song have different lyrics than the official ones?

  • @coubert this is John McDermott's version

  • This song it's grand. The ending it's flawless.ñ

  • I pee on the sides of the toilet so my piss is quiet :)

  • Love this. I may live in the US but I feel a great sense of pride in my Scottish heritage and would love, love, love to visit. Our family buys each other all the Scottish or Clan Gordon items we can find for Christmas. Would love to move back but I've always wondered if we would be considered outsiders because we've lived over here for so long.

  • @craidhmanach Naw mate, plenty of people have Scottish ancestry. I have cousins in Canada who occasionally visit and they say they love the place. You shouls visit Scotland when we're independent though, we'll be a much better and stronger country then :)

  • @derfruhlinginparis *should

  • @derfruhlinginparis Wonderful comment

  • @craidhmanach

It depends on where you go, really. If you go to the highlands they're full of outsiders anyway. I'm Scottish, I've lived here all my life and I'm an outsider in the central Highlands. It really doesn't matter though because you're not alone. The only problem (for the people I know at least) is if you were to call yourself Scottish and you still lived in the USA. It's a bit like that sort of "plastic paddy" idea, but they're welcomed a lot more in Scotland.

  • In Vino Veritas. BullShit. Man Bara Avreagerar Sig Ibland När Man Snackar Bollocks.

  • @SuperZerodotcom you speak gäilisch? Can you teach me? Ore can you say where you haves learned? peleeeaaaasssss!

  • @SirKlabbaut

  • Merry Christmas my fellow Scotsman, all the way from America! Beautiful video! D. Ferguson

  • The UK is a group of countries who have a fierce fierce sibling rivalry. The Scottish hate the English, the Irish hate the English, the Welsh hate the English and the English hate the Scottish, Irish, Welsh and the rest of the English who are not in the same city as them. However the benefit of this is that a rivalry of this sort can only improve every aspect of all the parties involved, which is why if you take on the BRITISH we all stand together and you will lose.

  • Comment removed

  • @SurpriseUnderTheKilt There is a piece broken off Britain – it is called the Republic of Ireland. You got parts of England who don’t even like being called English- the Cornish. It would barely be drill practice for the US Armed Services to invade and dominant Britain. Your comments are absolutely stupid.

  • @MrMarkJohnOSullivan Looking at the previous comments to this video, You are just incredibly arrogant and ignorant, not an appealing mix if I am honest. My comment was purely a statement on how the sibling type rivalry of the countries in the UK benefits us due to each of competing to be the best. which as far as I can see is a fair statement. Your apparent lack of knowledge or understanding of this country or its social state makes any opinion you have regarding this topic completely irrelevant
