  • Violetta is Angela's one. Everybody want to hear this song with their ears in front of Angela. How can she run away from that?

    Angela? She's the best.

  • bravo angela!

  • Wow! Angie brought the girls out to this concert eh! lol! Of course she's good in this as always

  • Great video and what a performance!!

  • Look, I love Gheorghiu and enjoy immensely when she sings these arias, but for God's sake, doesn't she get tired of singing the same arias and songs in every concert? I am a huge fan of hers, and that's why I get even more unsatisfied about this, since I know she could've been singing perfectly dozens or hundreds of other arias and songs. I'm not exaggerating: in the last 5 years, she's been repeating about 10 arias and 10-15 songs. She should follow Fleming's great example of versatility.

  • Maybe this is true, but try to understand that people like to hear these pieces - there are of course harder ones, but not all people like them. Therefore, she has more success with these - especially at a free concert, where all kinds of people can come and listen to her!

  • You are right, I mean, that may be a pragmatic decision on repertoire, but I still think it must have something to do with artistic choices, as well, because Gheorghiu sings these same arias and songs in paid concerts everywhere in the world. I agree a free concert "asks" for a Brindisi, but I can't see why a woman whose voice fits a huge ammount of repertoires (from German lieder to Verismo arias) would keep singing for years the same Traviatas, Bohèmes and "Granada"...

  • @iulika08 and you are 100% right... when you do a free concert, you must be very careful to what you are about to sing. Cause no matter how beautiful it can be, easy or hard, if the ppl never heard about it, you are half chance to get an applause

  • Every opera singer should perform the arias that best suits his/her voice. That "versatility" is not always desirable... One cannot sing in a perfect way every aria that exists. Not even Callas.... she tried but she had to pay a high price..

  • You're right, but, come on, we all know Gheorghiu can sing much more than she sings. Actually, she's proved it in many of her studio recordings, in which she's sung a varied repertoire of lyric arias (I'm not including those possible-only-in-studio recordings of hers). That Gheorghiu sings a limited repertoire is a fact, and I think it's a sad one, because her voice does fit a very large lyric repertoire. Versatility never destroyed a voice: singing roles not appropriate for one's voice did.

  • True.. But I guess that these arias are the easiest for her to sing.. probably effortlessly. And considering that this was a free concert I guess she chose not to stress her voice too much :P

  • People pay lots of money for getting a ticket for her concerts to listens to these special arias......can you blame the public ??? NO !!!

  • No, but I do blame the artist, because we know the true fans of Gheorghiu would pay to see her singing anything as long as the repertoire contains good opera arias and songs. Of course she could've been singing, for example, Lia's aria from L'Enfant Prodigue (perfect for Gheorghiu's voice!) or "Senza Mamma" or Desdemona's scene and everybody would pay for her to listen to those famous showpieces as well.
