WRONG! Airbox is diff, steering is better on the CSL and so forth. And you CAN get AC and radio (most do have those).

Is it better than the standard E92? I'd say so ecept for the soundtrack as I prefer the V8 in the new one (most wud disagree tho).

@ricardonemez: Verdict: e92 M3 makes you smile, the M3csl draws the biggest smile on your face. The M3csl is also not suitable for everyday use, the e92 is better to drive every day. The CSL is more racy and the e92 is a bit less racy. :P

well it does suck big balls that the days of the s54 are over production wise but honestly...i dont think they could make a 6 cyl engine any faster than that being N/A. what the problem is, is that every car make cant beat bmw motorsport naturally so they're all going to forced induction just to keep up or maybe beat M by a few tenths. therefore bmw can only react is the same manner and crush them again at their own game as they've been doing since cars have been built.

just are you trying to say here? 1st lets talk about pricing. the gt3 cost is double that of the m3 of my build date "03" has only 40 something more horsepower. boast a 3.6 (.4 litres more than the s54) which means bigger stroke which leads to more power. porche is no doubt taking the flat 6 to new heights but from my m3's build time. the two in a race would depend on the driver and for heavy ass m3 with almost 50 less hp to hold up to porches race version of the 911 i'd say is pretty amazing!

@2gr6rydar That is correct. However, I read this week that BMW are testing 4 different types of engines for the next generation M. They are even looking at a 4.0L I6 that could deliver 460+ HP.

But of course NO car company can make engines like BMW can. Remember the S70/2 on the McLaren F1? Probably the best NA engine in a production car ever. BMW Power.

E46 looks just as good (if not better) than the E92 and it is less than half the price... The S52 goes just as good as the V8 too, but also sounds 100 times better. I'd pick the E46 any day.

The E92 M3 is one of the few new cars that I actually like - Still, E30, E36 and E46 FTW.

A friend fitted a supercharger to an e36 M3 evo and it completely opened up the car,

I had an E36 evo but the Smg box was horribly slow so i sold it.

Now that the e46 are give away money in Uk im considering going over to buy one as a track or weekend road race car, supercharged i think is the way forward, They just need that little edge these days..

I sold my csl, (which is the worst decision I have ever made). The csl is the best sounding car I have driven, especially for cockpit noise. The car is stripped so expectedly, its raw noise coming through from the air take flap. however, I found it very dangerous on the back end in the wet. Hot dry was unbelievable how it stuck to the road, (michelin pilots). Alot of road testers say the smgII gearbox was rubbish but I found the neck thumping changes great and the low ferocity smooth.

I've been in both of these cars around silverstone and donington and they're both mind blowing! I'd say the E92 was faster. Then again it was AC Schnitzers own S3 being driven by their test driver; I'll never forget it.

I'd still rather have a CSL though. For the looks and the fact it sounds so much like a McLaren F1!

i've seen a white m3 e92 in person and drove a dark blue e92 as a test drive off the dealer and yea i know its more powerful and rides better and that takkiy engine noise is not there like that of the I6 in the e46 but i still like the 01-06 M3 bodystyle better

looked at both, driven both and now own the csl. its a different car all together. If you want a hard aggressive and rewarding car to drive car go csl and make sure you track it at least once a year. If you want a very well accomplished GT go e92. Then again you might as well get an M5 and have the extra space and extra 100bhp.

i own a chipped csl and borrowed the E92 for a weekend. Even though the E92 is a very quick car in a straight line it doesn't feel anywhere near as good just having fun around A roads. To me the E92 felt more like the M5 than a sports coupe. Even though the CSL is a track car it's still great as an everyday car. If the E46 is anything to go by the E92 CSL should be mind boggling.

I do own a CSL and it is fine for everyday use. I have owned it for 18 months and the wife also loves to drive it albeit as an automatic. 4 Seats, big boot, 0-60 in under 4.5 and 186mph (not reached yet) for me it's perfect.

M3 CSL's rear seats are unusable. I doubt you can live with the CSL as an everyday car since it lacks climate control, any other amenities that most BMW customers are used to. And its not an auto, its a SMG or Sequential Manual Gear box, which sucks for street driving. M3 CSL was basically designed to be a track car.

just to add some info:The CSL is available w/air condition and radio. You just had to ask for it you wanted it when you ordered the car. The transmission is the same as the SMG II in the normal e46 m3 just got some more race oriented software. Also if you are on the factory tires they are worthless in rain from what i have heard.

And if you've been in an M3GTR road car I am very jealous! That is one of the rarest cars in the world, wish I could drive/own one. But the cost like $250,000 new :(

BMW E46 M3 csl, around 1400 built, just under 500 RHD, I've owned one for four years, it is awesome, not an everyday car though, but more practical than anything that can match it on the track. Great seats (front and rear)

I didn't know they did different packages. I bought mine with 7k on the clock. I was under the impression they built 1500 of which about 400 were right hand drive (BMW told me this)of which 1 is mine and will be for some time as i love it! As far as bragging I'm a car enthusiast, recently signed up to youtube and was interested in what video clips they had on CSl's. Having seen the comments on CSL v new M3 and having driven both cars I felt compelled to give some first hand feedback...shoot me!
