I had an 85 when I was 10, hopped on a KLX400R when I was 14 as my main bike, then an (uncorked) XR650R a couple days later and never looked back. The 650 is my ride most of the time.

Rode the KLX400R the first time when I was 11, had to stop on hills and crap just to reach, but it's not like a big bike is anything different than a mini. Just physically bigger and more spread out with a shit-ton more power.
