Excellent sound, Thank you for posting this version! I too love this song. I love the Hot August Night album, especially the first 3 songs of the second CD: Play me, Canta Lebre, and Moringside. These 3 song touch me like no other and put me in the very best of moods...
@mrob75 This was first released on 'Moods' in 1972. Track 16 & 17 disc 3 of 'Play Me:...' are the original 'Moods' recording. It was also released on 'Hot August Night' 1972 but in that track Neil talks during the Prelude.
@4evermore12 Thanks for the upload mate. Probably the most saddest song i ever heard. I haven't heard of the "Play Me - Complete Uni Recordings". Here in Australia there was a triple CD by Reader's Digest called THE BEST OF NEIL DIAMOND (all MCA material). Do you know or like "The Time is Now"? Check out my upload.
I took care of an old man dying, and when he finally passed, no one really cared. The table he made of oak went into the barn. I was the caregiver and I thought , How sad. But I also heard all the stories of the fights the family had through out their lives and I kind of understood a little. It is sad, because we are not to judge.Only the Lord can do that, so I kept it to myself. And then I heard this song and it made me cry.
this is the way melody and lyrics of songs be written.will touch the soul of anyone who cares to hear it. very beautiful indeed. diamond is really forever!!!!
the hundreds and hundreds of times I listened to this song, I wonder, "Why can't I stop crying?" Neil, you've touched my heart many times, and you'll always be in my memory, no matter what, LONG LIVE NEIL DIAMOND!!
@MrSanjavierino It is a beautiful song. It reminds me of an old western I saw were an old woman pretended to be dead to get to see her children. She knew that while they could not find time to come see her while she was alive they would come to her funeral. Sad!
I have gone to many of Neil's concerts. and I have seen many of his concerts on television I love the electricity in the air But for some reason, this song makes think about my own mortality . I'm not being melodramatic but that is the way it is.. I been in wars and Ihave a very diferent view of life now...
Most likely one of the best songs by Neil. I think of my dad who passed away a few years back when I hear this song by Neil. Maybe a tear or two as well.
Thanks. The songs of years ago that Diamond produced will not sell well in today's market. Music has changed so he is trying to change to the new beat of today. He should just stick to what he is best known for and target our age group. He most likely would sell more CDs.
This song makes me think about my future and now that my grandparents have all passed away, I cherished every moment I had with them! I hope my grandkids that I am blessed with know how much I love them.

sorry to hear your dad has gone but you have chosen a perfect song he sings it with such conviction and soul.
they dont write songs like this anymore the words and music are genuine and not manufactured for popular sales.
its a shame your father is proud of you!

Morningside, the old man died.
And no one cried, he surely died alone.
And truth is sad,
For not a child would claim the gift he had.
The words he carved became his epitaph......
"For my children"
