I held up the software in the video. The original software is useless since the company is out of business and no longer runs the needed server. And even when the server was up it was such blatant spyware I wouldn't install it. However if you search on the Internet there is software which allows it to be used as a regular bar code scanner.
So like, can it scan words? like, could i open MS Word, for example, and scan some text from a book or something and have it insert it onto the word document? that would be really neat...
i meant it can scan the isbn barcode on the back of books, which will put it into google books for you. Like in google book, new book, and then scan all your books in.
I consider a short history lesson as interesting as a practical product review. Based on views relative to my other videos I'd say others agree with me
- Agreed. I never got one, not because it wasn't offered to me at the local RS store, I just wasn't interested in a dumbed down way to search the catalog/website. Then I begun to read the horror stories about the CueCat hidden intentions... it was hilarious in a weird way; and just one more of RS blunders on its downhill ride.
Wow this old man knows tooooo much about technology... what is he?

@kraamerXmich It only scans barcode. To scan text you need a regular scanner and character recognition software.

You knew about the usefulness of a product before you bought yet you got it anyway?
Of course the website has to operate as an Intermediary as many company's will move their products around.
Think about it Einstein!

I should have mentioned it more clearly and at the beginning of the video. But I did mention in passing near the end they gave them away for free.

So you got a product from a company that has been defunct since 2002 for free and gave it a bad review. Wise use of time?

This is even worser than that CueCat device
My barcode scanner in the video link is for a laserdisc player.

Hi, I have CueCat and lost the directions. Can you give me the activation code for it?

I got one, using it with the Game Collector software. Works very very good!
