  • If anyone dislikes this they need a good old slap round the chops!

  • haha love how you run to a better camera angle near the end lol. love the videos man

  • Playing with your arms doesnt give you blisters and makes you ripped after a wee session haha.

  • just me or it looks like hes using demon driver pedals?

  • Dude, you missed the best part, in Existence when he goes craaaazy fast with the pedals. The camera started shaking and you moved backwards.

  • Where was this? I think i was there

  • lol his feet are crazy

  • @gillylovespey i know right? i was watching them the whole time

  • yeah all you arguing or asking if drumming gets you buff like THIS^ nah, matt greiner trains and does weight lifting at home b4 tours to stay fit enough to play his junk and not die of exhaustion (or however you spell that :P) drumming'll give you some definition if you play this stuff but playing easy light stuff won't do junk for you.

  • He must be one of the best drummers of all time, seriously. he NEVER fucks up, he's fast, and he has some sick grooves. What else do you fucking want? Matt is a perfect drummer.

  • Got backstage live videos of August Burns Red that includes

    youtube.com/watch?v=e-f7ZDrSVEs

White Washed; Indonesia; Composure; Matt Greiner Drum Solo; and Truth of a Liar

  • Yea Matt was telling me that Blake Richardson from BTBAm encouraged him to work on his chops and he gives blake credit for that. Blake is a great guy too. Both drummers are fantastic

  • Well it is better to play with your wrist. Because you consume less energy when u play with you wrist.

  • Its better if you play with your wrist.

  • matt greiner change alot. Before he uses only his arms but now he uses his arms and wrist. So he doesnt look stiff now when he plays the drums. Alot of improvement. Well even if he uses only his arms he still can play all of those drum fills and boy those drum fills of his hard.

  • Need to get me some of them shoes....

  • that stupid chick got in the way in the part i wanted to see

  • What's the chain for?

  • Instead of arguing why not agree on how we all would've came if Matt pointed at us at the beginning of existence. XD

  • Drummers have dumb youtube arguements.

    Matt Greiner is a god.

  • Hopefully this extinguishes some of the arguments but I have spoken with Jason Costa from ATR and upon asking about blast techniques his comment was; "Never use your arms only, you will get tendonitis. My recommendation is the moler technique." Now I know we are talking about Matts drumming all together but in any case. Matt does use his wrists. Very little. But he does use them.

  • I love the sound of his bubinga kit... D:

  • So what if he plays with the whole arm or the wrist.. As long as he does it great. That's the way he play's it. so why bother argue? Chris adler said do it where you are comfortable. And matt greiner is comfortable with playing with the whole arms.

  • This guy is amazing.

  • his mini china sounds like a " PUTT, PUTT" instead of "CHA, CHA" hahaha kinda stinky

  • @BZbodyboarder73 uh... thats the way that its suposed to sound (even in his recordings)

it makes him mor musical instead of just beating the crap out of his kit

listen to 0:45 and imaging a big CHA compared to the PUTT its not as good

  • @DrummerBoy20412 on the CD its more of a distinctive china sound, rather than a fart, it wouldnt be a big cha anyways its a 12' china, alls im sayin is it sounds like its either tightened to much or cracked

  • @BZbodyboarder73 i think its super tight.

just to have a faster decay

    so is his splash./

    just my 2 cents.

    =]

  • @5DecadesofDivinity yeah, that was my second guess haha

  • its pretty obvious that he works out, hes just beast!

  • INSANE!

Nick Barker and Dave Lombardo rock too

  • hey, ah, if you watch him when he goes really fast he uses his wrists, the times his arms are straight is for posture. that's also why his back is straight.

  • its wrists and fingers....arms just happen at random points..=P especially when your on stage...adrenaline kicks in

  • what shoes is he wearing there ?

  • @bimlbatz

Macbeth shoes. No idea what model though. :)

  • @HolidayAvenue01 thanks ! :)

  • @bimlbatz Macbeth BRAH!

  • Macbeths!!!

  • all the stuff matt does is easy just like adam gray nothings offtime well some but like its all measures like the rolls are 8ths and 4ths and stuff simple stuff

  • The bass player has a drum stick and is hitting random cymbals at the end lmao

  • of course druming to this type of genre is a workout, i mean maybe not as good as a 1 mile run workout, but u sure burn a lot of calories, u sweat like crazy playing songs like this, and u built muscle on ur calfs

  • playing drums like this is more of a workout than running a mile

  • @drumbum167 It's also not advised for technique. Playing with wrists will make you much faster.

  • haha it's weird with me. when i play "air drums" i lead with my left and on real drums i lead with my right. just weird observation. but either way i count with my left.

  • 1:40 is why constellations is soo much better than messengers.

  • @ijakeii because of a heavy break

down? Thats the last thing someone would choose to compare Constellations to Messengers lol...

  • a lot of drummers you will see lead with their left foot sometimes in order to stengthen it but very challenging to do... travis orbin uses his left foot a lot to strengthen it

  • he is so fluid and into the beat..its crazy how good he is

  • Dang!! thats crazy dude! i never noticed that( drummer4jah ). It looks like he swithes which foot he leads with between each bass riff and fills. Trippy!

  • 3:07 is way cool. matt is an awesome dude and it would be a pleasure to meet him. and @drummer4jah, i noticed that too

  • who's best aaron gillespie or matt?

  • is it just me, or does he lead the kick with his left foot, but he's on a right hand set up..... can someone else point this out with me?

  • no he deff does..that's so weird haha he uses crazy footing, guess that makes him even more amazing

  • @drummer4jah

yea, but i do that 2, wen i play four on 2, my feet start with my left, idk y tho...

  • @drummer4jah He's leading with his right foot and counting with his left one.

very helpful tecnique, but very tricky to use it for an ABR song. haha

  • matt gets ripped because he works out an hour a day to stay in shape 4 tours... and drumming is actually cario, no shit ur not gnna improve ur bench by drumming but it's exercise

  • soooo... are you gonna send it?

    also...

you never explained why grant mcfarland isn't ripped. lol

  • Greg Mcfarland doesn't really play like Matt...he still plays like a scrawny kid :P haha

But, I know that you can't get ripped by drumming...I was just saying that you can gain SOME muscle from drumming. And I probably rushed into that argument lol Neither one of us will convince the other.

    But it's all good :)

  • if you watch the first ABR videos matt was scrawny as crap, he got buff cuz he works out, i asked him in a private chat a while ago, and playing the drums in general with proper form will give you definition but not mass.

  • WOOOOO!!! GO MATT!!

  • dude i want his double bass technique. anyone know how he does it?

  • @DrumBum561 yep,

practice practice practice practice practice practice

    then, practice practice.

    then, practice practice practice practice.

    follwed by practice.

    that should do it.

  • Practice, practice, practice. Maybe through in a little working out too. Get nice metronome or some click tracks and just play along everyday for an hour or two and you'll be on your way. It's something you gain, very VERY few people can pull it off right off the bat. :)

  • he looks like a very muscular chicken

  • women go to abr concerts?? lol

  • @optimusprizzime4321 thats my kinda woman lol

  • shoulda told that whore to move

  • prolly hasn't worked out a day in his life, just from tourin haha bastard.

  • matt is jacked.

  • He's jacked probably because of all that arm movement when he plays the drums hahaha

  • @jaydoode15 that takes much more than drumming my friend, haha.

dude's been workin out like a beast.

  • Actually no, if you're playing a whole set like Matt 5-6 days a week, you can get a beast work out.

  • @doublebassadventure rofl noob

drums is all cardio. there's no resistance, so there's no breaking down the muscle. you obviously don't know how building muscle works.

  • Yeah okay, coming from a scrawny kid like you. There is resistance. Depending on the technique, blastbeats require a lot of tension in the arms. I'm not saying that you can get ripped just by drumming, although I may have implied that. I'm saying that if you play like him enough, there will be a difference. I am a drummer of 10 years and have been lifting for more than 5. Drumming is not all cardio buddy. it just depends on how you play.

  • @doublebassadventure "tension" has nothing to do with it.

you look like you're about 10 years old... you've been drumming that long? and if you've been lifting for 5 too, whatcha benchin these days? or squatting? dead lift? snatch? do you know what those are?? rofl noob.

i never said i myself am ripped.. but i know what i'm talking about. drumming is ALL cardio. you need resistance to break down muscle. that's a fact. if you play like him, you'll lose fat. not gain muscle.

  • @furr0ci0us

    thats not all so true..

i play drums also, and i kno that if you play like matt, just by using your forearms and no wrists, you can get muscle like him..

  • i've played drums for 8 years.

how come i'm not extremely ripped??

    drums is CARDIO.....

    sigh.... noobs.

  • Like I said, it depends on the way you play. A scrawny kid will always play like a scrawny kid. Look at DWP's drummer!

If you use your arms and not wrists (like Matt), there will be a difference.

  • @doublebassadventure yes, there will be a difference.

you'll lose fat. which makes the muscle you have more defined, because you're taking off the fat that's covering it.

it will not, however, make you gain muscle in anyway.

go look at grant mcfarland. plays the same exact way as matt, and he's skinny as crap.

why do you continue to argue when you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about?!

  • @furr0ci0us

You know what's funny Jordan? I've seen you face to face. I saw you summer of '08 in Charlotte, NC. You remember don't you?

NFAF. Forevermore performed that 1st week of August. I personally video taped this, expecting something better because it was nationals. Your 12 year old drummer knew nothing about drumming, and like I said earlier, vocals were 75% flat..awful. The guitarists were good I'll admit...yes, you included. I can send you the vid if you want to see it. Small world huh?

  • @doublebassadventure

haha yeah i'd like to see it actually.

That was summer of '08. Our drummer is now arguably the best in our scene. (yes, matt is a huge influence) I don't play guitar anymore. Neither does our old guitar player. He plays bass now, and I'm just doing vocals. We've got two new guitar players. Our drummer is almost 17, heh.

Last year, we placed 3rd at nationals. We had the same crappy members.

We're probably 999 times better than we were in the summer of '08.

  • Oh nice, I got top 10 last year for traditional percussion solo. It was my last year before college.

You're good at guitar though...I don't think you should quit.

Okay, so do you want to send me a message and give me your email address so I can send you the vid? :)

  • @doublebassadventure

our new guitar players are better, haha. and it's 54375462654 times easier to sing and scream when you're not playing guitar. the "75% flat"ness had to be fixed.

  • @furr0ci0us

Oh I see. Well yeah, I know it can be difficult to play and sing.

  • @furr0ci0us

i've been playing drums for 4 years, and how come everytime i play like him i feel soreness, as if i just finished working out??

maybe all you use is wrists..

or maybe you are scrawny and can't build muscle for shit, thats why you keep saying it doesn't work..

  • @Ozzballs

you feel sore after running too, idiot.

    it's freaking cardio.

do you know what cardio is??

also, i benched 110 max at this time last year, and i'm now maxing 195.

i know a lot about building muscle and weightlifing.

  • i'm pretty sure i kno what cardio is...

all i kno, that drumming is not all cardio, i would kno..

110 to 195 in a year? you really cant build muscle

    i started at 135, in 8 months i got to 230..

  • @Ozzballs

inform me, then, on how building muscle works.

    how do they get bigger??

  • @furr0ci0us my AUnty is Miss Oliympiar no joke

  • @avdrums09 sweet...

so ask her if drumming builds muscle or cuts fat.

  • @furr0ci0us ill will try to hay

  • @Ozzballs your probably tensing up alot, I used to do that. I got a book called stick control, and I work out of it before I play and it really helps me loosen up

  • @doublebassadventure Keep in mind too, more arm work instead of wrist is also showmanship, to make it look more intense for the crowd. Wrists will always make you faster though in the end, and will NOT wear you out at all compared to using your arms instead.

  • @doublebassadventure You're not supposed to play with your whole arm. You're supposed to use your wrists more than arms.

  • @doublebassadventure who's dwp?

  • @MyownPrison89 the devil wears prada

  • @doublebassadventure Is it better if you play with arms and not wrists?

  • @DiabloSVV12 it all depends on how natural you play. like me i play with my wrist but matt plays with his arms so its all on how you feel comfortable playing

  • @DiabloSVV12 when you are playing a single drum like a marching snare or something, the proper technique is to use your wrists, not arms. you have to biuld up your chops. like look at matt during blast beats, he uses his wrists. but of course you have to move your arms when playing drum set, since you need to get around to hit all the drums :) but anyway...

TRADITIONALLY the 'proper' way is to use wrists only. (i played marching snare for a number of years so i know from experience) =]

  • @doublebassadventure Actually, playing with the wrists is much more effective when blast beating. It requires less energy.

  • @Ozzballs

what are you talking about no wrists?

from 2:12-2:22 that is all wrists

  • ok dude, yes he uses wrists. But most of the time, he uses a lot of forearms...

  • @doublebassadventure i293. photobucket. c o m /albums/mm50/forevermore_music/ownTEHyouTUBEn00b. jpg

    take out the spaces, duh.

    i asked matt. you fail.

  • You're dripping with arrogance, and drowning in ignorance.

I never said that Matt didn't work out. This is pointless to argue about anyway. You just go around commenting on videos thinking you know everything. Get a life.

  • @doublebassadventure rofl that was your first comment, retard. i said "dude's been working out like a beast." and YOU are the one who "went around commenting on videos thinking you know everything."

your ignorance: "no, (remember, you said no, which implied you thought matt didn't work out.) actually if you drum diz much you can haz huge muscles, yo!"

also, saying get a life is just another way to say, "yes, you have owned me, i'd just rather not admit that i thought drumming haz musclezz."

  • @doublebassadventure Sorry I'm late on this...I've been a drummer for over 20 years and a weight lifter for over 10. Are you insinuating that you believe playing drums is a type of resistance training? That is ludicrous. It may as well be 98% cardio and 2% resistance. It's almost negligible any way since there are so many fatass drummers out there who are amazing. The only resistance may be added by weights, and even then I would not consider it enough for "resistance training".

  • @smttysmth02gt Actually i've found that since i started drumming, the muscle's in my arms have become noticeably bigger and stronger.. now obviously Matt didn't acquire those muscles by just drumming. :P

  • @furr0ci0us

\No you don't have to have weighted resistance to get jacked. trust me. Cardio can do it. You have to do it right...and yes drumming is a great workout. this genre of music burns 700- 900 calories in an hour. No BS.

  • @jc4ic

burning calories = burning fat = CARDIO.

I'm aware that drumming is definitely cardio. everyone else seems to think you can actually build muscle somehow from playing drums.

  • dude matt is getting yoked. look at him. plus hes a sick drummer

  • tightest drummer ever.

  • man whats that stupid ladies problem

  • howd he do that part at 2:32?

  • WOOOO Thirty and Seven is my favourite August Burns Red song and this was uploaded on my birthday! :D

  • I DEFINETLY would have jizzed on myself if a beast like Matt pointed to me like that.

  • I love this band

Damn Matts a fuckin sick drummer

I also think short hair looks better on him (Y)

  • thts sweet as hell how he pointed 2 u dude. i wulda prolly shit my pants hah or got a boner

  • gosh i love 6:30 and on

  • Comment removed

  • Best china sound ever produced! haha

  • wat kind of ride cymbal is that?

  • his setups somewhere on the internet, just google it.

  • d00d i found out wat it is and he uses a Zildjian K Custom Hybrid ride:) those are awesome!!!

  • what kind of Iron Cobra pedals does he use? is it the power glide ones?

  • idk but i do know he also uses dw 900 pedals, im still looking for the iron cobra he uses. i'll tell you when i find out:)

  • i messaged him on facebook about it and he surprisingly responded to it. he said he just used the regular chain driven ones but now he's using the 9000s again

  • sweet:)

  • even though that photographer got in your way, you found a great angle on Matt. thanks for this, i haven't really heard much of ABR, but because of this drummer i'm definitely becoming a big fan.

  • im not gay but Matt is fucking handsome! hahaha

  • look how far back his beaters come everytime = O

  • man, i noticed that... even when he speeds up they still come back so far and get to the head of the bass drum so quickly and spot on... ridiculous

  • man matt is ripped

  • I would have have felt like the luckiest kid alive if he pointed to me at 3:06, lol. I want to go to one of their concerts SO bad.

  • You must have felt pretty awesome at 3:06 haha

  • for a second i thought he was only in socks. matt is one of the best drummers in the world. (tony royster jr. is amazing too)

  • hell yeah good choices my man :)

  • what was up with the dick walking in front of you at 4:48 .

this man is without a doubt a rhythmical genius.

  • that "dick" is probably there drum tech... he kinda needs to be there more then the dude filming

  • or........ like it says in the video explanation that it was a girl taking pictures... which i didn't notice

  • oh :)

  • He's a beast, doesn't matter what gear he uses..... this guy could burn up a freakin pulse kit hahaha

  • what kind of beaters are those?

  • dw 9000's i think.. im almost positive

  • well they look like the danmar red hard wood beaters. but i just wasnt sure

  • oh yea.. the pedals are dw 9000 the beaters are danmar haha.. they have to be

  • yeah i might have to get those cause they sound pretty darn good on that bass drum

  • they are

  • on the record i think he uses the standard 9000 beaters, but in the video for meddler hes using wooden beaters, he is using wooden beaters in this aswell i think

  • look at 6:19 dustin is hitting matts cymbals with a drumstick, i think that man is genius!

  • are all your videos from one show?

  • Yep! Scottsdale Arizona. I was at it and all I could do is stand crapless in their glory hahaha

  • ugh damnit he shaved the beard, but now he looks like he has an iron chin to go along with his drumming God- like abilities

  • Why is this spanned? that was a compliment hahaha

  • Does anybody else notice how far back his beaters go. It looks like theri hitting his shoes. Greiner is a tank

  • the man blasts in his sleep.

  • yeah definitely cobras, check the composure vid and when i saw them live they brought out the pedals first and they were CLEARLY cobras. doesn't really matter tho... use what works for you

  • i PROBABLY would have gotten a boner if he pointed at me at the beginning of Existence like that...

  • @gallooch17 me too dude, I would have white washed myself

  • Comment removed

  • pluss if u look close he even has dw beaters

  • nope i talked to him he said that 9000's are the smoothest to him and that he loves his

  • Sorry guys, but he uses the iron cobras live. Watch their back burner live, @ 4:33 matt seperated his left foot from the slave pedal, and voila! iron cobras all the way! hehe.

  • i think he used cobras before he got his DW endorsment

  • oops my bad. Yeah hes using cobras at the moment. You can make them out if you watch the live composure video

  • He uses 900s. You can tell from Composure live. And if he used the Tama Iron Cobras, it would most likely have the Cobra Coil, which that doesn't have.

  • At 2:53 of the Meddler cover you can clearly see they are iron cobras. Plus I went to this exact show since I live in Az and asked if if I should ditch my iron cobras cause they are old and he said stick with them.

  • That doesn't mean anything. Iron Cobras are good pedals. And besides, why would he be playing Iron Cobras if he was endorsed by DW for hardware and pedals? And why wouldn't he just use the DWs live?

  • fucking kick sounds so beastly and dominant so awesome

  • he used to use 9000s until it got stolen, now he uses cobras

  • holy damn... this guy is a terrorist behind the drum!!!
