The reason Lange was fired from TV is partially because he wasn't a homer and was somewhat neutral. FSN wanted a homer. In 2008 when the Wings won, Lange was enthusiastic even though the Pens lost. He just has an appreciation for the game either way. :) It's respectable, no matter who you're a fan of imo. Most Pens fans don't really like Steigerwald either.

my 93 yr old dad lives near pgh, and always mutes the tv to listen to lange on the radio. i was there during a game last year, and the radio broadcast is about a second or two ahead of the tv, so you know what is going to happen before seeing it. they should have a contest in pgh--for "goal-isms" . gotta pay a buck to enter-with proceeds going to charity-and the winning "ism" gets the person a box seat.

I can remember it like it was freakin' yesterday. 12 people all crammed around a TV, all holding their breath for the last minute and a half (which felt like an eternity.) And then all 12 people going absolutely nuts. The numbers of my Fleury jersey got a little bent up from the ensuing dig-pile but I was too excited to notice at the time. But that crease in the bottom of the 2 in "29" is a reminder of one amazing season.

Great comment and I agree 100%. Why the Pens chose to not renew this hall of fame announcer is a disappointment to say the least. But as you say, I turn the sound down on the TV and turn the Radio on.. loud. Too bad the Pens management can't monitor how many other people do the same!

fw from my understanding it wasnt the pens but fox sports made that decision. a total injustice to all of us mike lange fans.. as pittsburghers we not only have mike giving us the best play by play in hockey. but we have also been blessed with bob prince calling the buccos in their better years and of course the late great myron cope doing color commentary for the steelers

The Pens kept him as their radio voice . . . and I'm very glad they did, as a matter of fact, if he'd still been the Pens TV guy, we wouldn't have any of his GREAT AUDIO to go with these OH SO SWEET highlights! So FSN did all of us Pens fans an unintended favor!!!
