@beehappy718. oh k, I'll put my opinion in a nutshell.I think that a pet should be a part of a family.I don't agree with giving a pet as a 'present'. I was given two guinea pigs when i was younger but not for my birthday. I went to a pet shop and my mum bought them.The decision was not made on my birthday nor any other specialoccassion so the guinea pigs were more family pets along with my dogs.My opinion doesnt contradict itself for people who can read.

I am not saying people shouldn't get puppies or anything like that. The pet is not meant to be something you just feed and ignore when it gets older and i never said that in the first place. I just don't agree as a pet being a PRESENT as such.

And offering a pet as a present doesn't seem to be the smartest idea.with most small children, not all but most the novelty of a pet soon wears off. Some children get pets to teach them responsibility.Most children love the cute little puppies/ but when the animal gets bigger the child may decide that she does not want the dog anymore.It happens a lot at shelters,most with dogs and kittens, given in once they grew

I don't think it is right to get a dog/cat for a childs birthday. I pet is meant to be part of the family and most kids when the puppy/kitten grow up they don't want it anymore. I am not saying this girl is one of them because I don't know her but I am just expressing my view.

@RPSHammond I would usually agree but I would argue that getting a dog young sometimes actually fosters a behavior of growing up. I think it ends up being how the kid looks at it, is this a younger sibling who you love or a toy? If its the former then you have a responsible dog owner for life.

@RPSHammond I respectfully disagree with you. Most families I know, the kids LOVE the dog forever! This girl is not a toddler, she is 10. You can tell by the way she is careful to hold him and how every time his head starts to lean, she is careful to gently pull him back up so he lays in the center of her chest. She uses her other hand to secure him. I think she'll be great.
