  • Can this be done without a gi? And if so could you show us how please? That would be great thanks

  • I think you might as well go for the tornado clock choke since it starts from the exact same position and is harder to escape.

  • When you have it tight and you move fast, the opponent cannot turn into you. It will be too late. If you do it weak or slow, then yes, he can turn.

  • nice move, but very easy to escape

  • This choke doesn't actually work unless you underhook the arm on the side you fall to, this prevents your opponent rolling towards you and escaping.

  • Am I the only one that always feels sorry for the target in these videos?

  • Doesn't BJJ rules forbid chokes with fingers

  • @scottyiscute its not fingers... its the gi and the leg that do the choke

  • @scottyiscute Its a choke with the collar of his gi, not his fingers.

  • sick move, it's like a choke bar, like when you spin into that it looks like your going for an arm bar except it's a tight choke, gonna use this one when I roll.

  • Got caught by this while rolling yesterday and my neck is still killing me. Comes on so fast and tight.

  • Matt's a good uke...clearly by the end of these demonstrations, he's looking a little beat...yet he continues to be a good, supine partner for these workouts.

Your vids are great...I always look forward to the next one. :)

  • poor matt has to wait a long time b4 he can tapout when ur talking about the choke haha

  • Why is it in older videos your a black belt but in newer ones your a purple belt?

  • @508Reggie His black belt is not in BJJ. Purple is his BJJ rank under Kieth Owen and Pedro Sauer.

  • thank you guys so much for your videos. I train JJJ with gi and i love the groundgame, this will help me add another weapon to my arsenal :D

  • great move thanks for the introduction, any other move your recomment for as simple as this one?

  • works great..my son sub'd someone 2x the first day he tried it!

  • i feel sorry for that guy.... Amen

  • dear submissions101 i can honestly say this choke works today was my 5th lesson at ralph gracie jiu jitsu in dublin today and i was rolling against a white belt my size that had been training for 9 months i for got my set up but i got his back in kind of a turtle postion i went to get hooks but he blocked his neck from the rear naked so i remebered this vid i reached a cross pulled his collar thrumy leg over leaned back and just like that he tapped before i hit the ground thank u for the vid

  • Would I be correct in saying this is basically a Peruvian Neck Tie but using the opponent's collar instead of your arm?

  • Nice,is ther a way to do that if a person does not have a collar?

  • Put this one to use today in class. Great stuff!

  • How would I be able to apply this in MMA? Would it work if I gripped my hands after stepping my foot over and rolling backward? I wanna try this move, but the place I train at only does no-gi...

  • Hey! That's Matt Kaiser! Hey Matt!

  • well, he can easily roll his whole body and free himself on the first chokes you just showed, last one seems to work pretty well though..

  • the big problem i see is the first transition over his back. It seems, though I cant tell, like he could easily start rolling when u prop yourself up. What could you do to prevent this from happening?

  • I see you chose the intro, damn, I knew I should have gone for the default explosions and flashes in mine!

  • he's already dead :O

  • Gotta love the custom grey gi.

  • god the color of that gi is sick!

  • How do you get the opponent to a position like that in the first place?

  • can this be done without a gi?

  • @HYPExORxDIEXX i cant see it working unless they have some sort of shirt on. so in a ufc style match it probably does not. but in a street fight it might work.

  • @CooperHaydenn yeh, unless everyone goes out there wearing a shirt or a jacket, this move will simply never work (please do notice my sarcasm).

  • @waldomarek unless you live at the beach during summer, most people wear shirts but I see what you are saying. this move is more for gi grappling competition

  • is this only for brazilian ju jitsu only or all types of ju jitsu is allowed to do this? and is it allowed in a normal judo competition?

  • I don't train with a gi so this doesn't help me much lol

  • @uXgotXmerked Try it on your friends who are wearing shirts. It's loads of fun.

  • fast and effective...

    ..supernice!!!

    I wil try it..

    thnx 4 share

  • He's a cherry lollipop!

  • Glad you liked the intro, Ari! :)

  • I feel so sorry for matt watching this video.

  • So its kinda like Peruvian Necktie?

  • @Uzu70 very similar, but this the suicide choke is quicker, and your opponent have to wear a gi for it to work.

personally that makes me kind of dislike the move even though it's awesome..

  • you should show this from a sitting position or from the back with hooks. I have an idea in my head on how both would work and think it would be awsome to show. As well a transition if a single wing choke fails.

  • how would you be able to take down fat people lol i hate it cuz im skinny and fat people push me around but its cuz there fat.it sucks cuz i work out and they eat so im like dam.

  • @lucklyclover58 try some sweeps, use their weight against them by using their momentum to roll them around and get on top.

  • @lucklyclover58 oh and look up different wrist locks dont matter how "fat" someone is its still effective

  • I hope the poor bugger getting chocked gets most of the ad revenue off this video! lol

  • how could this move be modified so that it works for MMA fighting. Seems like a quick way to get a submission in the cage

  • @Vinny369 It's a collar choke so that might prove a bit difficult for a no gi application.

  • I cought a purple belt with 4 stripes with this. Its great!!!

  • it is like the peruvian necktie only you are using the gi instead of the second arm

  • You can do this from the back mount also, that is where I usually land this choke from.

  • Works only on low level!

  • @AdeleVEVVO I wouldn't agree with this statement. Of course, ANY move can be countered. I know bjj players purple and higher, that never get caught in arm bars or triangle chokes. Would we say that armbars and triangles 'only work at low levels?" Repetition of moves makes them dangerous. The SET UPS make them dangerous. Absolute statements like these don't have a place in jiu jitsu in my opinion. Everyone must develop their own game and not all moves will work on all people all the time.

  • @Submissions101 Very true

  • @Submissions101 i agreee. it reminds me of the quote "i fear not the man who's practiced 10,000 kicks 1 time. i fear the man who's practiced 1 kick 10,000 times." great videos, i've been subscribed forever, and the videos have helped me a lot. I have one question though. Is there a variation you could use for no-gi? Im going in to law enforcement and i find a lot of BJJ practical, and when i need a fast "go-to" move, this would be nice.

    keep it up ari!

  • @Submissions101 i like that one: locks and chokes are not dangerous, setups make them dangerous :D

  • @Submissions101 The problem with this is that even if properly placed, it is still easy to defend against while a properly placed arm bar or triangle is not. There is a reason you do not see this move at the highest levels of grappling. Do you not find it odd that no one is going for this? This move is nothing new, even you noted that. While I will probably try this out for fun, I believe it is a low percentage move to both pull off and submit your opponent with.

  • @AdeleVEVVO get good enough to make your opponents seem low level in comparison to you. problem solved. ;-)

  • @AdeleVEVVO says the guy who doesnt have a purple belt and doesnt train under eddie bravo and keith owen. fool

  • @AdeleVEVVO The most basic things work if set up correctly. Transitions are an important tool so you can bounce back and fourth between techniques and trick your opponent. Baret Yoshida can transition armbars and triangles over and over until he catches his prey in one of them.

  • @AdeleVEVVO No.

  • @AdeleVEVVO tell it to Roger Gracie submitting ppl with basics of basics

  • looks painful

  • I think it would be really surreal if Ari Bolden did a scholarly video breaking down the Chikara Special submission hold.

  • This looks like a sidewards peruvian necktie !

  • new intro? aww.. i lost the intro contest :(,

  • @Paremco we appreciate you trying out though!!!

  • Will you please stop choking that poor man?

So, is there a good video for a counter to this move?

  • @LordNifty Don't give your back

  • @LordNifty don't stay in the turtle long enough to let him get this grip. The longer you stay in the turtle the worse off you will be.

  • @LordNifty This technique only works if the opponent stays turtled. That is why it is such a useless technique, unless your partner is utterly exhausted or an absolute beginner.

  • is there a variation of this move with no gi?

  • poor guy...he's like, tap tap.....he doesn't look like he is enjoying this to much...but the flip side, THE CHOKE WORKS!! Thats a good thing

  • you probably need a gi to do this chock huh?

  • @itscarl0zyall1 Yeah.

  • @KenF2k8 that sucks, it looks so lethal.

  • @itscarl0zyall1 NOPE, it's best with a GI for training purposes...but if your wearing a shirt of any king, T-Shirt, Collar shirt it will work...only thing is, will the material hold up.

If the guy has a beard, you can grab that too, whatever works is how I roll

  • Poor uke. This one's gotta suck to have done repeatedly!

  • One of the simplest yet most effective Gi chokes I know of, really shows Jiu Jitsu's strong points. Thanks guys!

  • siiick !

  • Looks like a Gi version of the peruvian necktie. Am I correct in that assumption?

  • Oh man this choke is sick!

  • thx for the upload good video as always
