Theres nothing else in the world, as experiencing hearing the past generations talk about our biggest wars. Such good men. Thank you for your service, and regards to the german soldiers as well. Nobody wanted this war.
@Iceproductionss ehh, yes the Germans wanted the war because of the Versailles treaty that shat all over the German nation - lesson numero uno: If you dont want a nation to be raised up by a despotic lunatic (especially now with nukes) then dont shit on the nation and destroy its economy.
So enough already with the 'nobody wanted this war' bullshit platitudes.
@Iceproductionss although true germany din't want hitler ruling anymore as well his persecutions were relentless and his malice towards jewish and mentally disabled ppl was ferocious they didn't want the war it's true the Show Band of Brothers showed it but america and it's allies would not stand for the attrocities agianst humans that hitler impossed
This is hands down the greatest television series ever created...PERIOD. I watched this when it first aired on HBO and it mesmerized me from the first frame until the last. These men are true heroes. I have never been one for war, or fighting of any kind, but these men fought in the last great war. A true war, to stop tyranny. It wasn't about politics or profit or any other non-sense like today, it was a pure fight...the good fight. Much respect to all involved.
@mezzanoche Yes they are heroes, BUT USA joined the war because of the economy, because of the profit like they did in WW1 and like they will do always.
@NNIIKKOOLLAAAAA Yeah, every war is going to have some type of "profit" involved with it. Whether it be resources, diplomatic advantages after the war, money, influence etc. That wasn't what I was getting at in my original comment. man this documentary should be on the History Channel nothing beats firsthand accounts
anyways Taccoa was the same boot camp Elvis Presley went to 10 yrs or so later lol my great grandpas were in the marines and were generals and they had it rlly tough
imo tho the fighting first also sufferedheavy casualties but the tanks divisions suffered the worst 'cus of the German Panzer IV's
@knightace2002 your talking shit - the mark 4s were nothing special at all - it was the Panthers and Tigers that shat all over the Shermans. You are a shit head
@PJ3love those too and don't have to be so fukin' mean dude mark 4's were just as dangerous bc of the medium armor compared to the light armored shermans (even with upgrades) they suffered the heaviest losses bc they were in a lot of fights and they didn't use them well enough. Shermans were anti-infantry (Anti-tank with upgrades) not heavy suited for tank on tank warfare but still say in numbers they could destroy a bunch of panzer 4's Tigers and panthers
@shagster1970 lol funny thing is is that the war that was fought in the middle east is the same thing that caused America to enter the fray in WWII so noone can forget about it lol but imo 9/11 and Pearl Harbor are conected in that sort of way the reaction was the same the scope and even the yr and time (both yrs ending in a 1 of course :)) but i agree keeping History alive is to tell the tales of wat happend

@lvrpatriot01 same here - normally 6 months you would have 45 guys and 8 would pass on average. 1990 onwards and the rate climbs to 50% then 75%. A sensible build up and not running in boots was a main factor but at the end of the day if you were tough enough to hack that then you were made of the right stuff
@lvrpatriot01 that is the US airbourne - the Brit airborne has no women (although they can try if they want) the US and many other nations has a shit load of them.
As Bill Guarnere said when informed of Major Winters passing away, I would have followed that man anywhere!! You would be hard pressed to find another that is or was as brilliant a leader as he was!!
men like these are real heroes. its so sad that these days respect and honor that these men earned will never be equalled. may they never be forgotten for what they gave the free world. THANK YOU.
My grandfather was a doctor in North Africa with Patton and traveled from there all the way up through Sicily,Italy into France. He also treated the people that were found at the concentration camps, he really did not get into detail about that part. Just that it was something he will never forget..

Thank you 101ST for fighting so bravely to secure my freedom,God bless you all.

@humeyboy The only reason the war (or the Holocaust) could exist in the first place, is because people didn't care about their enemies. But nvm, my apologies.
Is beautiful listen the History in the lips protagonist ... the old people had many things that show to young people. The time past is the same that the future
This is BY FAR the BEST documentary I have ever seen, Thank You for posting it, and THANK YOU to Tomm Hanks and Steven Spielberg for bringing this to life!!!!!! Most importantly, GOD BLESS the men of EASY COMPANY, may the victims and survivors alike be blessed and Rest In Peace. You are all loved by many.
That said, as a former conscipt, I had never met an officer that was one percent close to the kind of man Major Winters was. I would have charged a machine gun nest alone with just a bayonet if Major Winters had ordered me to.
This is one of the best movies that I have ever watched as my grandad served in the European as well as the Pacfic theatre. He then came back and fought in Korea. This generation fouht aganist tyranny and our soldiers now arent respected as the heroes they are.RIP Major Winters as well as my grandad NAS gone but never forgotten.
@thedawgsarch yes rangers, sas, army, navy, marine soldiers fight because they want to. back in the cold war the marine raiders and etc had to fight for their country
We are free because of men like these...for people who want to step all over it...think about the men and women who came before you and what they have sacrificed. Rest In Peace Major Winters...you will always be remembered.
on january 2nd 2011 Major Richard ( Dick) Winters died.
a great man who lead by example an inspiration for officers and men.
its a shame God needed him in heaven already, but i'm shore he's with the rest of E company and all the others of the 506th who where already there before him.
rest in peace Sir.
thank you and all the other American soldiers who came to my county Holland)and liberate us from the germans.
Oh, and despite the generation before me and their hyperbole of being such a great generation for surviving the 60s or whatever-and things were definitely achieved by them-this generation was the last great generation who truly understood selflessness. They understood setting aside their wants and "gotta havits" for the good of all. God bless them all.
The man was a hero in the very truest sense of the word. He had no ideas of gaining glory. He cared only for the wellbeing of the men he led & loved-and they loved him unconditionally. How many leaders in the military-or anywhere else for that matter-can claim this? He was as fine a miltary leader as has worn boots in any army, but what separates him from all others is his vast humanity. Though a rocker I've never claimed musicians as "heroes". This man will always truly be a hero to me.
You don't have to be loved uncoditionally to be a great combat leader, you have be respected by the men you lead. Make sure your men are always prepared. Try to get what they need. Complete missions. Get them home alive! 2nd Lt. Ed Shames was one of the best Combat leaders in the 506th. He joined Easy Co. at Bastogne. He was hated by his men, but they respected him. They gave him a lot of credit for getting them home.
@MrAj302003 Oh my god! I never even knew he had passed away T.T. The United States...no...the world has lost one of its few honorary heroes whom looked with humbleness about his role in the war. Rest In Peace Major Winters, you will NEVER be forgotten.
When someone asks you who you think is a real hero, just look them right in the eye and tell them any of the men from Easy Company and all the WW2 vets who fought for our freedom and our very way of life that we enjoy today. God bless them all, they will live in our hearts and minds forever.
with seurth being an only child, i wonder if he couldve gotten that waiver for only children. the army had a waiver for only children to not have to serve.
THE BEST OF THE BEST....I WATCHED THIS DOCUMENTARY IN MY COUNTRY, BUT IN SAPNISH VERSION, I HAD TO COME BACK AS FAST AS I COULD EVERY DAY TO WATCH EACH CHAPTER....AT THAT TIME I WAS STUDING ENGLISH....
this series was amazing and I am glad to see that there is finally some recognition to the men who fight to defend our freedom. I cannot express my gratitude for the men that gave their lives to defend the generations after them and the youth today most do not seem to care. I am teaching my son to respect these brave men for there aren't many left to honour.
These interviews are amazing. I've been kinda emotional lately, everytime I watch this I either cry or get teary eyed. These men went through something none of us can even imagine. I live in Sweden and we were never really in the WW2. I respect these men so much, and I wish I could meet some one. But since I live in Sweden, I probably won't be able to. And imagine what these men went through with these interviews, for many it was the first time they really talked about the war.

@Lolznator, WTF are you preaching to me for?
They were the enemy so I for one do not care!
humeyboy 6 months ago
@humeyboy The only reason the war (or the Holocaust) could exist in the first place, is because people didn't care about their enemies. But nvm, my apologies.
Lolznator 6 months ago
@humeyboy because he is a preach so watch your language

That said, as a former conscipt, I had never met an officer that was one percent close to the kind of man Major Winters was. I would have charged a machine gun nest alone with just a bayonet if Major Winters had ordered me to.

This man will always truly be a hero to me.
redfishradical 1 year ago 3
@redfishradical

When someone asks you who you think is a real hero, just look them right in the eye and tell them any of the men from Easy Company and all the WW2 vets who fought for our freedom and our very way of life that we enjoy today. God bless them all, they will live in our hearts and minds forever.

this series was amazing and I am glad to see that there is finally some recognition to the men who fight to defend our freedom.
