  • "My worst day sober is better than my best day drunk." That's a lie, and everyone knows it. I stopped drinking six bottles of wine a day twelve years ago, on my own, because I chose to. I know today, that I had some great times drinking. If those of us who provide treatment (I'm a therapist) are honest, even just with ourselves, we will recognize fallacies like this opening sentence, and we will stop bullshitting people who are seeking help.

  • Isn't it a bit cheapskate a "hospital" touting it's wares on youtube?

  • Cheap advertising - isn't it?

  • In the introduction says that:

"Brookhaven Hospital has developed a solution-oriented treatment program that offers a healthy environment for individuals struggling with chemical dependency."

The video is titled "Straight Talk: Addiction". How about some "straight talk" in regards to details of the treatment program?

The "My worst day sober is better than my best day drinking" cliché makes me suspect that it's one of those drug 'em up and shove 'em into 12 step meetings "treatment" programs.

  • CAN YOU SAY 'INSURANCE'??

  • You're right, Hammersley. The video says nothing about what their treatment program entails. But that well known cliche' along with their description of addiction as "a serious medical illness" pretty much says it all. It's obviously just an expensive way to teach people how to work a 12-step program. There's probably not much more to it.

This is the legacy of a 12 step saturated western addiction treatment culture.

After ALL this time not many resources and credence is given to ANY alternative to the 12 step paradigm.

And is it any wonder that the 12 step zombies sit back and say:

"I told you so - other approaches come and go, but 12 step keeps on keeping on"

...as if this is a good thing?

2 million AA members and approximately 500,000 NA members, in a world with a human population of nearly 7 BILLION, with an addiction rate of around 8% (= 560 million)...

A "spiritual program" is the best on offer in the 21st century?

    Time to wake up people...
