  • Violin is not easy, so I appreciate your effort! Also, great music

  • lol mr.bean

  • keep going buddy :D

  • @simpsonsfan49 this is youtube we speak our minds or whatever comes to us without the need to hold back...

    ps: this video is amateurish

  • The movie violinists set a high standard; nothing to worry about. It's in the doing of it.

  • OUCH my ears. I appreciate the effort, but why post videos of you sucking?

  • @keepemseparated at least HE uploads videos

  • (continued)

One more important thing about bowing is using the weight of the arm to get more bow pressure, especially at the tip. Putting more weight on the bow when you approach the tip will give you an even volume rather than dwindling at the tip and swelling at the frog.

Finally, do a posture check. I can't see your left hand, but make sure your fingers aren't flat over the fingerboard- they should be arched.

Once again, great attempt, and keep practicing!

  • Props to you for having the courage to post this on Facebook. I doubt any of your critics would ever attempt anything that requires musical skill, much less post it for all to see.

As a violin player of almost seven years, I have a few easy tips that will greatly improve not only your technique, but your overall sound. First, get used to playing 4th finger E instead of open E. The sound will be much less harsh. Also, improving your bow hold will make playing much more comfortable.

  • Keep at it man, you're doing great.

  • sucked

  • props mate nice work :)

  • uhm maybe its the notesheet... not him... duh :P

  • really not bad:)

  • You seriously need a little more practice before you post a video of yourself. Better than I can even do on the piano, though.

  • @VincentHMusic

better than any shit you could do. he enjoys it and he puts an effort. go listen to some stevie hoang VincentH"Music"

  • Seriously just stop. You can't refrain from posting useless comments that only cause you to look like a douche

  • ignore all the bad comments. im usless at violin. i just play piano. :-)

  • you were good, but you need a bit more practice. A lot of notes were off, I mean this piece was actually pretty good for a beginner. just practice a bit harder, LOTR songs are after all masterpieces and are hard to perfect, good luck!

  • i dont care how he played, i can watch and enjoy this video without sound, read everybody his face! He loves what he does and he enjoys it GREATLY and he tries very hard! thats enough for me.

  • I guess he's a lot better than you are ;)

  • for the record he's not that bad. and furthermore instead of putting him down why dont you suggest ways to improve his performance

  • Pretty good! :) Keep on practicing! :D

  • hes probably a beginner, so stop criticise him ^^

    (sorry for bad engl ^^)

  • awesome played.

    i avlso play violin.

training to learn many LOTR songs.

i allso play piano, thee i know two LOTR songs (in dreams, gollum`s song).

    YAY YOU

  • omg, can you please load your violin?

  • Fuck all these loser saying it was bad...you did an awesome job...id give anything to play like him...

  • :) Fajne God Job:p

  • your F#'s should be naturals. try tuning your violin before playing. to be honest though, you arent tthat bad. but i'll be straight up, i played better than that after a year of playing...

  • Its not great -cough cough cough-

    but...i guess..it was kinda......nah..

KEEP PRACTICING AND MAYBE...SOME DAY YOU'LL GET THERE!

and did i hear cars on the background at the end? did you cause a pile-up or something? D:

  • hahaa

  • Hi!

This isn't too bad, I'm interested in how long you've been playing, however?

    Are you sight reading?

Your posture could use some work, as well as your intonation and bow control... I would also suggestion shifting to 2nd or 3rd on the A string instead of using an open E. And perhaps adding in vibrato. But not a lot! Because, I think that, Rohan needs a slightly flat sound, too.

    BUT!

I like your sound, and I think that you have excellent potential! Good job.

  • ma quanto sei stonato?!i can't hear it!! stop stop pleeeeease!!!

  • beautiful!"

  • I was reading the comments when i first heard this i thought it was some millon dollar player perfect

  • ok not trying to be rude... i have played the violin for 10 years now. Try putting some vibratto in there, would soften it up some. Also, i would practice way more before trying to record, it was really sharp sounding

  • it great, and i play the violin to, but have played five years since 2nd grade, but remember to keep the violin parallel to the floor it is also my biggest mistake when i first learned

  • Comment removed

  • come on! do anyone of you play violin? I think it's a real gift to be able to do it...

    besides this music is awesome..

keep up the good work! :)

  • Okay, but you might want to work on your ntonation as it sounds a little flat. The music also sounds a little rough so you might want to try to smooth out your booth...but keep up the good work!

  • good work.

keep an eye on the entonation though, but you're on the way man

note: i can't play the violin so don't pay too much atention to this.

  • Sounds flat to me at the beginning, then some sharp notes middle to end, way better than i could do. keep workin on it

  • You guys can't be serious, hey m8 you need to work on your pitch, intonation that is. just keep working hard.

    cheers eenoo

  • few wrong notes but awsome otherwise

  • damn how long u been playing? nice job

  • I personally dont know anything about Violins but i liked this!!! your doing good!! just keep practicing and i think you will be Fantastic!!!

  • great!

maybe you can find someone who plays the song on guitar while you're playing...

could imagine it would sound very good!...

  • good, but there are some tune wrongs :P But very good anyway =)

  • verry nice

    5/5!!!!

  • When playing a piece, of which you already know how it should sound; play and listen to your own notes, and correct the tuning of individual notes whenever needed.

Keep practising and you will go a long way :)

  • some pointers...

ure pinky on ure right hand, when ure holding the bow, its straight. curve it and it'll be easier to play

another, raise ure stand cuz it helps to play violin with a proper stance

  • more vibbratto

  • Continue practising. You are in the good way pal. I´ll try too. Thanks for your concert.

  • Wow this is great! You just need to practice it a little more but its a good start. Keep at it =)

  • bad

  • did you just say whatever music? wow.... who gave you a keyboard?

    keep at it kid.

  • what ever music, main thing is he is handsome!!!

  • It doesn't sound quite like the movie, but I've got to say you did'nt do too bad. I think that you need multiple violins to cover any individual blemishes. plus numbers gives power to the chorus. If thats what you call it.

  • I dunno wat u guys r talking about? This music is written for trumpet, not the violin. I think he got the best out of it.

  • ouchhh... :X

  • You ROck m8 ;)))))

  • ouch thats realy bad bleeding from the ears here man

  • Oh, are you serious? It isn´t symphonic piece, but its still passable. Don´t be so cruel. He could play it much worse.

  • how true, LOL

  • oh sick!! thats pro....i can't do it cause i never EVEN touched the violin...

  • sorry, but you really need to practice.

    it's sounds awful!

  • to mě poser trošku falešnéé kua smíchy pukááááááááááááááááááááááááám

  • sakra to melo bejt tady...tohle ->

  • all those people who criticize those who say what is wrong with his performance, should realize that, that criticism is likely to come from someone who knows what they are talking about

  • ur doin great, but once u can really get that good bowhold, u will be fantastic! also, you should consider re adjusting your shoulder rest. you want it nice and snug so that your NECK can comfortably hold it. you seem to be using mostly your hand to hold it up, which makes it harder to get good sound. =P

  • pretty good! heres a tip for ur bow hold: try tilting your hand forward for more control.your index finger shour curl over the bow and touch your thumb thru the center and ur mid and ring finger lower on the frog. ur lil finger should be the only one gently resting at the tip.

  • I want to say something. I really like it when people give tips and advice. Really, all you guys are what makes Youtube great. Not the idiots trying to put somebody down.

  • Falla un poco la afinación.Sigue intentandolo.

  • wow really nice. Don't give up, your going really well, just some tips:

Try flexing your wrist when you move your bow, it makes the notes sound a bit smoother and you have a bit more conrtol. (I dont know if it was intentional) but try pulling your stand a bit higher, so when you read the notes you body stays upright and in a nice position. Othre than that really well done.

  • you got to make it your own, its too stiff, no vibrato, your just playing notes and not music. send me email and i can send you backing tracks for all the songs. Keep up the violin its difficult, but its best instrument

  • nice, 5/5 caz u try it and it sounds good!

  • i love it

    please send me the partition

  • Great, but I think the problem is that you play a little stiffly. Relax.

  • you have really good tone for a begginer!!

normally begginers are squeky etc.. but for a begginer nice job :)

  • he's a begginer but he's really good !!!

  • This music is hard to play good im told. But you did well. You may have missed a few notes but it happens. Ive just started so this is way better than me XD

Its alright for people to critise so you can find your weakpoints to improve, but when people say: "its crap" without stating why... i get annoyed of them, they are usually the ones who cant even play a triangle..

Anyway, best of luck, id like to see some more of your work, perhapes on a more violin friendly song?

  • wow! i can't agree more with you!

  • could you fucking do any better? Well just so you don't ask me i can...This guy is good for a beginner so shut the hell up he's trying!

  • exactly

  • well i am actually a violinist so the answer is yes i can do better

  • not bad.

  • Huh?

  • yaaaa that wasn't very good. missed some notes. its a good piece too!. he can do better

  • Dude u are amazing. I showed this vid to my

friend, who plays the violin, and she was

even more encouraged to play, cos she wuz

gonna quit, And to all the people who are like

"oh, that sounded like shit." or "i can do way

better", well, go fuck a goat because with that attitude ur goin nowhere!

  • i love this song, your good at it :] whats the name of the book you got that from because i am a violin player myself and i have been looking all over for that song :]

  • i think its pretty good

  • I liked it =] I bet it took a lot of practice! I wish I could play violin, but flute and guitar are enough for me =]

  • Ouch

  • it sounded like a saw which lost some teeth..

I can do better with my saw

  • except for the couple parts where you sound a little flat/sharp, not bad

  • I think this is my fav lord of the rings song :)

  • I have a 2000 Euros violin but i only use it to hit my lil brother:-D

  • JAJAJAJJAJAJJAJAJJAAJAJJAJAJAJAJA! The metaphor of using an expensive violin that is meant to create music and pleasant sensations for harming a little brother... Interesting

  • thats realy good, i love the bit at 46 secs when u burst into the main riff (i dunno if its called a riff in violin for anyone gets anal aobut it) im gonna start to play, this is one of the tunes i want to learn.

  • makes me wish my violin wasn't busted :(

  • not bad dude.

    violin is really hard

  • Good at some points, but those false tones makes

it sound aweful. Practise more and tune your violin.

  • I was only that good at one point. Keep at it, make sure you play that as a low 1st finger on the e string, :P I don't know shit about note names, what I do know that You know everything suzuki has to offer by book 6, advancing to 7 means nothing-and just because you can play "anything" in suzuki doesn't mean that you can play it well, looking back when I stopped with Suzuki, I was the worst violinst ever ; ;

  • I did Suzuki method! 2 years, did the first book. kindergarten-1st grade. I was my teacher's youngest student.

  • TUNE YOUR VIOLIN> ITS OUT OF TUNE> your e string and A string i believe.

  • who gives a shit whether he needs more vibratto?? u probably just sed that to sound like u knew a lot. i like it, it doesn't matter if its not perfect.

    well done!! <33

  • cool

  • Why are there only 4 people who have done this on youtube.

  • er...you need more vabrato...and your not hitting the notes very well. What book you studie from? Sazuki? Sazuki really helps. I'm only 13 and i'm on book 7. If i had a video camera i would record myself.

  • For a thirteen year old you are awfully smug sounding and a tad bit cocky.

  • if i had a good sound system i would post me playing. I'm not saying i'm great but i'm not bad.

  • I agree with KoiMeito. You can't even spell vibratto. Hee, hee. But I guess it doesn't matter, because you're 13 and already on book 7.

  • What does age matter when studying an instrument. Sure it sounds good but what matters is how long you've been studying the instrument. If you were 13 and started last year, then sure that's amazing, but quite rare. So hush up, kid.

  • so beautiful almost brings a tear to my eye :')

  • Try to get closer to the bridge and less on the finger board. I shouldent be telling you that becaues that is my main problem. I'm not thet good. :)

  • We're playing this same exact song for our Spring Concert. We suck. A lot. It sounds really cool on trumpet, though (of course, they do get the melody for more than half the song, stealing alto sax's thunder)!

  • Great dude! Can i ask you where u got the violin notes from? Thanks..

  • Your C naturals need to be lower when you play them on the A string. I found myself cringing during Eowyn's song.

  • whoa, dude...plz...stop with the open string sound...sorry, not trying to offend you or anything...and I'm not saying that I'm a good violinist either. But, if you play long notes with open string...you ruin the whole entire song! and if you can play this song in not just one position...that would be even better. and why don't you add some vibrato in it too...I played this song too...and I just uploaded it in youtube...you can go and check it out. Well...hope you will get better!

    ~~Cheers.

  • That's really great! Where did you get your music? Howard Shore?

  • not bad ;)

  • i think you do a great job. ur attentiveness really reminds me of how i was once into the violin. haven't practiced for a long time now. anyway, thanx

  • words of wisdom (not that I'm any good at the violin---i quit lessons like 5 months ago) you might want to tilt your violin to the side just a tad more. This way it's easier to see your music and to move your fingers =]

  • Cool. I'm just learning violin too, but I can give you some good advice: don't collapse your left wrist towards the neck. Keep it nice and strait (in line with the rest of your arm) for first position.

Bow arm is pretty nice, but keep the bow nice and straight vertically. Practice this in front of a mirror. It works wonders. Keep it up!
