Thank you very much. I've been playing for about 2 years now, teaching myself, and was starting to get frustrated with my lack of progress. This series has been fantastic. Really enjoyed it and now feel so much freer at the piano. Before watching these videos I was playing the notes and not the music. You've taught me how to play the music. How do I thank you?
This is a fantastic series! Thank you so much for making it and sharing it with the world for free. My piano playing has already improved thanks to my new awareness of my body while I'm playing. I'm going to get stuck in to all your other videos now :) Thanks again.
I have spent my life working on what you talk about here, and I agree with everything you have said. I love your kind and positive nature. If you have kids, I'll bet you are a great dad! Good luck to you, Frank. I'll check out your website.
Almost sad to see that this is the last video. It's apparent that quite a bit of effort went into this production and I wanted to thank all that were involved. I thoroughly enjoyed the way you presented your information, Frank, and I had quite a few laughs! It's truly a wonderful thing to pass on a wealth of experience such as this! And I'm sure it will come back to you when you need it the most! Thanks again, and I wish you the best fortune in all of your endeavors!
Hi Frank, I had suffered from tennis elbow for almost 8 years and through experimentation I have reached at the same conclusions. Now I can really enjoy playing so to anyone watching these I can assure of their validity. While I was watching your videos I was constantly wishing I had seen these videos 10 years ago and not having had to learn this the hard way. Thank you sooo much for posting these! I have already sent this to all my pianist friends/teachers.
cont from before. ....My question is, I was using all finger muscle to play are you saying not to use any? or a mix of mostly full arm and what's needed in your finger muscles? It seems you have to use some finger muscle. Thanks for your help may someone help you the same someday soon.
Hi Frank! Thanks for your help. I am a new student 52 yrs old been a guitar player since 12. I always loved the piano so a few weeks ago I started I bought just last week a weighted keyboard a Yamaha DGX-640 so I could practice on something very close to a real piano feel. Before watching your course my right forarm would always been in a locked position. I'm with your help loosing up, but still not there yet, I guess it takes time to loose the bad habit I had, correct? cont....
Thanks for putting out this series of lessons. You've answered some great questions I've had on basic and advanced technique, as well as reasons for hands&arm tension after a long practice (I have very small hands so octaves are a strain). Really enjoyed your natural, friendly, and sometimes humorous instructions. (I'll remember my "Fred"!) You are a really good teacher.
I too just wanted to express my thanks. For the past few months I'd been having horrible pain in my shoulder blade area whenever i'd practice...the 'shoulder shrug' was the guilty party and that has helped me to become much more comfortable playing.
I'd also like to point out how you ENDED the video saying that these were not RULES was an excellent way to close all this out. Too often teachers think their way is the ONLY way...and thats not true at all. Thanks again..that was a lot of video!
Because I run out of characters to type :)), I would like to, again, express my gratitude towards you and please excuse my english (if I made any mistakes). Take care!
Thank you very much for the free and very informative lessons. I feel like I owe you one. I learned so many things that I can't really express my appreciation towards you. One more question though... could you give me some tips, if not make a series of videos (which would be totally awesome) on how to read & play faster musical sheets/scores? The same thing would be amazing if you could theach your viewers how to play different patterns at the same time using BOTH hands... I find that thing hard
Great video, superb teacher! I enjoyed very much watching all of them. It's still difficult for me, but it's a lot more easier than my other teacher made it! Many thanks!
hola soy de ecuador exelenten videos amigo gracias por compartir tus conocimentos hacia todos.... hahahahaha me toca traducir la mayoria pero lo importante es que se vea....gooooooooood friend good....¡¡¡¡¡
Just a note to show my appreciation for your generosity in offering your time and your great gift of teaching to countless piano students free of charge.
It is never an easy task to do something like that, which offers help to both beginners and more advanced pianists but you have succeeded in striking a good balance.
I have watched the entire series (FFwd on some) and have picked out a few nuggets. No doubt they will improve my playing tremendously.
I'm all life in debt Frank. You are a great teacher but more than anything a great person to share your knowledge with everybody for free. I was taking lessons with one of the greatest teachers in my country but he never taught me all this VERY ESENTIAL things to play smoothly the piano.
(part 2) I never thought that everything was so easy like you call. Now in this very afternoon I could perform smoothly the repertoire that before i coudn't for lacking technique. I'm 27 years old and I'm very serious to "study" now.
I watched every lesson and I can say that is a spring for newbies and for pros who haven't achieved the ultimate performance.
Thanks Frank. I spent the whole morning with you. As a classical guitarist i found a tremendous value in your teaching of the piano technique to use in many ways. You have a great gift.
Thanks very much for these videos. I found a lot of brilliant ideas here, first of all this forearm rotation, it never occured to me to try it, as well as this slight wrist movement when playing the scale-the thumb is really much closer to the key it is to press so this technique may well make things (like for instance playing fast up the keyboard) easier when I manage to master it ;) And finally, you're just such a positive person with your smile and thumbs, I find it very encouraging ;) Cheers
Your awesome and helped me a lot! you opened my eyse to see that I dont need to strain to play the piano and also that it is better to study then practice so you can obtain good habbits. thank you sooooo much!!!!
p.s. Are you going to have more tutorials or videos teaching songs or something on the piano?
My 10 yo Son is learning and taking exams but is no longer able to have a teacher. This has helped me help him and means he can carry on progressing and I can help keep him in the right direction. I think your course is just the best. Thank you so much.
I really enjoyed this video series, it was the best! I really loved the way you delivered it, just a great experience and I can't tell you how much I've learned. I'm off to go study... and it's amazing how fun it can be when the technique is proper, when it feels natural... and I think you've helped improve my posture. All the best - Richard
I have been playing for over 15 years, but being self-taught I knew I had some bad habits. I recently realised I was having difficulty playing some 'easier' pieces, despite being able to play more difficult ones already. Your course has shown exactly where I was going wrong, and with a bit of study I am sure I can fix the problems!
thanks a bunch, always feel stiff and when I do get off the keyboard my right shoulder is sore. i can only get better study more practice more. I would if only I didnt have to work.. and spend more time playing music. I need more spare time. LOL thanks mate
Thanks for checking in, mate. I hear you, man, about time being so important but so hard to come by. I, too, stuggle to find the time to do important things in a material world. Cheers, Frank.
I thank you soo much for sharing such a wise and intellectual way of playing the piano..those videos truly helped my body and piano happily play together and it has been like a masterclass for the summer. I really preciate all your efforts and care-you are a real scholar! I will take in those techniqul foundation for the rest of my life.:)
ps .i would like to contact you sometimes for mabe for questions what is your email adress?
