I really want to see a female gymnast perform the Produnova vault sometime soon. I think there are atheletes out there who are capable of producing enough power to do it. And it would certainly be an ace in the hole for ANY team to have a 7.1 SV vault.
I really wish more gymnasts were performing the Zamo today, it would add a bit of variety instead of the compulsory double yurchenko. I know its tougher but not that much more.
@Logansbl By far, the Produnova/double front tuck, which I've heard no woman has ever done - one attempted it, not including that girl in Stick It - since her. (The men do double flips all the time, though.)
But judging from how many more points are earned with each additional half twist, I think the Yurchenko triple twist will be rated as more difficult when somebody finally performs it.
@kuddygymnast12 the curly hair...the powerful gymnastics...the grim soviet competition face...the consitent losing of mind during competition...my God! You know how they used to say that soviets impregnated female athletes to keep their bodies in optimal condition...anyone know if lyssenko had an illegitemate daughter around 1993ish? XP
I'm pretty sure Galina Tyryk and Lisa Mason were doing Arabian style vaults, not 1/2's. I don't think that you can find a tucked on but if you want a tsuk 1/2 layed out look for Gina Gogean in the 96 olympics event final; her second vault.
are the start values shown here just for national level? Are they the same for all competitions?Because i've scored a 13.15 on a handspring which is a 2.40 on your video
With the Yamashita you pike your body and then re-extend it before landing, whereas the handspring remains extended for the whole of the vault. The Yamashita is more difficult, but not by much.
@xsmile007 a fronthandspring vs a yamashita ... handspring is like complete straight body the whole time... yamashita through post entrance to table. you pike at hips then restraighten body .. thennnn land you visibly see a "straighten..pike..straighten.."
The skill she is shown performing in that montage is a full twist, not a double. The piked Handspring full is also named after her. The handspring double is not in the code because no woman has performed it in competition yet.
Why would Nastia be in this? She performs a Yurchenko vault, and this part of the video is clearly handsprings. If you want to see Nastia, wouldn't you go to a bars guide?
Wasn't Yang Yun's vault actually a layout Cuervo vault? Seems like the half twist comes too early in the flight for it to be a Barani?! I wonder why the layout Cuervo isn't in the code of points..?! Layout Khorkina 1 as well (RO half on, 1/2 to back layout)...didn't Raducan and Moya used to do it..or am I just too confused to figure out this half twist issue...
Did Pak Gyong Sil do that handspring forward at the Barcelona games?!?! Gee whiz, what was the start value for that back then? Seems far to easy for the olympics.
She did do it there, she scored in the 8s but I don't know what the start value was. She had injured her leg before the competition and then it got worse in training after compulsories
i didn't say there is not in the code, only that i only know man who have done it. they probably expect girls to do it too, that's why it is in the new code. if any girl has done it, maybe somebody will tell us.
I doubt that vault will become popular though. All the girls are now practicing yurchenkos. I guess the last tsukahara vault we saw was chuso's one at 08 olympics?
You should have shown Alicia Sacramone doing her handspring vault, I'm not good with vault names but you know the handspring vault she does with i think a piked 1/5 twisting rudi off. !! :s
yeh i know!! Sorry! I wrote the comment when the video was halfway through and i hadn't seen it all, i thought someone else had performed it but they did it piked, Alicia does it with a layout.
Outstanding lesson in gymnastics! And thanks for featuring lesser known athletes. I had no idea there were so many different vaults; Makes me wonder why we see the Yurchenko so often.
I'm not sure but there's 0.7 between a double twist and a 2.5 so maybe a 7.1 likw the Produnova vault? I really hope she does it one day, but I think I'd be scared she'd hurt herself when I see it!
One of the Hong sisters was training that vault and did get hurt, which is why she did not compete in the Beijing Games... i believe it was Hong Su Jong though....
all i can say is...O...M...G

@MyXLastXTango I heard it was 6.7 difficulty. No clue if that's true, though.
