James when challanged always said that Richey played "very quiet guitar", but looking at this seems he could play to some degree maybe only a few power chords. Never the less he was a amazing lyricist and influence on the manics.

Nope. It was far too slick. That's not to say it was crap - it's still a great record - but it dulled the raw edge of the band so much.
