I just think it's a shame that nice music like the kind that Aaron Funk makes is equated with the rather predictable music that is dnb.

By your reasoning there would be nothing wrong with calling this [hardcore] techno or even IDM, as it is also influenced by those genres.

i struggle with that too, and while i would like to learn exactly what music is defined as which genre, the divisions are blurry and open to interpretation.

not to mention that the average person wouldn't really know what i mean if i say dubstep or breakcore or whatnot. to them it's all just techno

I never found his tracks all that interesting, and certainly not associated to DnB in a practical sense. Its just a genre, and trying to stuff people like him into them doesn't work.

I can't organize my music by genre because of people like this everywhere. The only thing a genre serves is in brief conversation. That, and to herd the public towards large masses of socially approved purchases.

Besides I'd take Aphex or Vibert or even ziq over Funk any day.
