Lucky guy .. Microsoft run the world, and fails in the Zune thing ! its a "thing" and everyone complains ! me too ... It ended being for me a "guinea pig" of my DIY skills ... I'm wondering if I will ever be able to enjoy this failure with some peace of mind. By all means its a waste of money but a good experimentation tool !!
At least the Battery wires aren't soldered to the motherboard like they are on the ZuneHD. My HD froze while connecting to my wifi with a completely black( as in off) screen. Its funny I have a perfectly good looking ZuneHD thats dead as a doornob, yet my niece's iPod Touch has dog teeth marks in the corner of its screen( as in cracks) and its still soldiering on. Anyway I found a Zune 30 at a yard sale for 8 bucks incase my HD never recovers.
This is definitely not a coincidence. My 30g zune shows the same message after working fine for like 4 years. Fuck Microsoft! Fuck zune! Fuck bill gates hes in his mansion sitting on billions laughing at all of us!!! deuche bag!!!
thanks for teaching me how to reset. for me it actually work. well i reset it while my zune was plug in with my laptop. i don't know if that makes any difference but it work for me just now. thanks again.
@taz4408 lol I don't know I have two black Zune 30's (one with a dead battery and clunky HDD another brand new) and I've been holding them for parts as well.
@jdmills007 My Zune 30gb needs the headphone jack. It makes my Zune reboots a lot. How much, please?. (maybe I have to purchase the motherboard with it).
ok well my zune keeps having this stupid usb cannot recognize shit, i thought it was the cord so i tried a different cord still the same thing please help
@rayg6 That is just a stereotype (even if I say the same thing XD). My zune died today, but it had six great years with me...mine's just shows up with a black screen and nothing happens after that.
OH i dident know the Zunes actually had HARD DRIVES.. thats just NUTS.... .. i dont know what would happen to my laptop hard drive if i dident Defrag it every week... it goes slower and slower... until it haults... that happened to my dad,s ol desktop... he diden't knew about the de.frag program and after say.. 3 years his computer froze every time he tried to start... so i took out his hard drive and connected it to my own comp.. and from there i used my drive to defrag his.
i was surfing randomly around and noticed this video... as i don't have a Zune player but i have it on the Xbox 360.. and there Zune has never crashed... ive had my Xbox for 2 years and no Zune crashes... so MY conclusion... unless the software is different on the Zune player and the Xbox then we know that its something physical we are dealing with like... metal expanding/retracting due to battery heat, or the Zune network simply couldent handle it... i dunno but this is what i think.
reset it real quick then leave it for like 3-4 minutes and it is so slow u press a button and it takes a bout 2 minutes for the button to actually react if not buy a new batterie there like 8 bucks
i just replaced the screen on my zune. i've assured that all of the ribbons and everything are connected properly, it's not in warranty and i don't prefer to handle this issue with microsoft simply because of their customer service. Ive tried reseting it and everything. the only thing that happens is the backlight turns on and off. the computer doesn't read it or anything. and its not the screen because if i try to use the device blindly, i cant hear any music or anything. any solutions? thanks.
@sorryTV Typically if one thing hasn't solved the problem then there may have been an other underlying cause. In a word: troubleshooting. It is hell but it is also effective. I am not sure how much I can help you because I do not know what circumstances were involved surrounding the replacement of the screen. The Zune will be the blank screen if the lead ribbon isn't secured right between the circutboard and the HDD. I Zune will also blink on and off if the battery isn't holding charges anymore
Zune's have always been buggy, but i deal with it because i love the interface and its simplicity. I would rather have this brick than an ipod any day. I would just end up modding the fuck out of my ipod instead of using it for music. My Zune is rock steady as the one in the video finally lost the ability to hold a charge. I could have bought a new battery, but I searched Craig's List and found a guy with a brand new black 30 for 80 bucks. I said mine and it has been cool since.
for some reason i had to deal with this for about three weeks and then it just started working perfectly and it hasn't froze since then but, when ever i plug it in to the computer a message comes up saying that it's missing technology and decides to disconnect me.i think zune is the best mp3 player out there but mine has had a hell of alot of problems.
Do a hard reset (hold back button + up on D-pad). Some people hit the wrong button combo. If it persists after that then find a tutorial on how to open up the case and disconnect your battery for a few seconds and then start it back up. To check if it is a bad driver go to "My Computer" then right-click on it, click on Properties, find "Device Manager", Find Zune with exclamation point on it, double-click it, click "Uninstall Driver" disconnect Zune. Plug Zune back in with Zune software running.
Zune's are great! My son and me both have the same Zune 30 like you. Thank goodness this bug is now fixed with new software update. I had the same problem but update fixed it. Zune works great with Microsoft touch table PC using drag and drop, cool as heck.
@Sniper1968 Good stuff man. Zune 30 will always be my favorite. At this point, the bugs are worked out for the most part, it is a solid built device, and replacement parts are easy to find. Cool deal with the touch-tablet.
Mine does the same thing but if i let it sit there for a little bit when it gets to that black screen it seem to go the my main screen every once in a while
@binomuffin Yeah, the Zune sometimes does that. I think it "forgets" to move on leaving the user all kinds of confused.
Hard reset is the 'Back button + Up on directional pad' at the same time. Hold and wait. Should reset it and bring you to the loading screen.
The battery of course is inside the case but is easy to get to. Check around for video's on this subject or check back with me later. I may have a video for it up shortly.
i know the issue was resolved but for those that dont know you have to let the backup battery to die so that it will ask for you to put the date in there. it was a software problem so if you still have one that is like this pull the battery for the day and when you plug it back in set the date to before the crash and update the firmware.
I have a Zune 30Gb I've had it about 2yrs now. I live Ireland and never had a problem with it, although it never lets me register it because it's not available here lol. It's a great peice of kit
the date that you said it crashed was the day that i was in macys with my mom and itcrashed and i had a hrundred dollers worth of music and my whole music collection was gon ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
@sardo97 Uh, not the bug's fault actually. The leap-year bug didn't actually erase any data on Zune's. Not to mention it was easily resolved by sheer patience. No factory reset was needed.
Any user of a music device or mass storage device should know to always back-up precious data. Sorry for your loss, but you had it coming.
I had an 80g zune for about 4 months worked perfectly and then about a week ago it stop working. There would be no audio but the videos and music games pictures worked fine and now if there isnt a headphones pluged in the zune the screen goes blank...any1 know wt to do?
@badassboy307 Sounds like a Hardware issue. If you bought it new, just get it shipped to them pronto. If you ask at the time of receiving the return code, you can have them send you a box with all the needed stuff to ship it back asap.
yrea that happend to my zune once but i waited a while while an it came bac on an it never did it again but i have a diff problem its i cant get my computer to reconize my zune i dont wat softwear i need can somone help me ouit with dat
@4bigshot4 Faulty battery or battery 'ribbon' cable issue. If it is out of warranty, you can buy a new battery for roughly 30 buck (this includes shipping and is sometimes even cheaper) and replace it yourself. Tutorials are all over the web. I will put one up soon.
huh..it looks like the only zunes who have that much trouble are the 30g zunes :( anyways...i have a different problem and i cant get the solution anywhere! I was listening to my zune in the car..the i accidentaly pressed something and cleared everything. It now says contect to computer, but when i contect it and try do update the firmware it says that i have no space...but when i "erase" everything, it still wont let me..can any one help me? message me if you know what i can do..please!
Wow, when I read this I was like "Omg! I wasnt the only one then, Lol! the same thing happened to my 30gb zune on Dec. 31st 2008 at arround 11 p.m. and I wasnt able to get it to work until like 11 a.m. of the next day! ..I nearly cried, I love my zune! but Glad to say Its working again (After the battery ran out and I had to charge it again) :)

Didn't say they did. Not sure I ever said that. And I've got no qualms with OSX really other than its really overpriced for any of their products and that there are some compatibility issues with certain softwares. Money isn't a problem for me, but I would never spend that much on some of their products.
Early stages of any media player have always had trouble. The Zune 30 was developed early 2006. A problem is bound to appear when old technology is combined with new. But to do that is caring for the user and that's way more than most others do for their users
