Reinstalling Windows CE on 7" Netbook with WM8505 Processor

anyone plz help, how do i recover the green android guy keeps dancing its not starting up i followed this installation but didnt do anything

I did this process, now my system won't even recognize the SD like when I want to boot linux.

Instead I see your splash screen and it goes right into WinCE just like nothing is there. Now this tried to install Linux before (and that is what bricked it, so instead I chose to just try and run it off the SD). Did your installer change what it is looking for in the 'script' file name?

Toay! is feb. 19th 2012 i have the same netbook but mine won't go pass the on screen augen go i tried the china version first like you said but nothing it will not boot in dos' mode like your screen does so i just went straight to english but the same thing what can i do to get this thing to boot from the usb please respond at applecap12@yahoo.com i fix computers my self nut this is new to me & very small at that thank you, a lot I will keep trying also until i get a response

I have this same exact computer that was given to me as a gift. Funny thing is there is a password on it....I dont know it and they say they dont either. I am trying to get Geek Squad to reset password with their software today but they were unable to get into the BIOS system. We dont know how.....since you have the same exact netbook can you PLEASE tell me? Thanks!

WinCE.rar is English but you have to do the Chinese one first . I lost my WI fi after doing this though .Just do it again maybe you got them switched .

Are both Windows CE downloads in Chinese? For some reason my netbook now has Windows CE in Chinese after installing it. I use one of those cheap Chinese EPC-WM8505 netbooks with a 300Mhz ARM920 CPU, 128Mb RAM and 2GB NAND flash (not USB). I downloaded Windows CE from the video link (not the Chinese one) and it's still in Chinese! Can someone help me please?

It worked but now on thw small wi fi window I only have 2 tabs instead of the 3 I had before and cannot get on the web now . Can you show me what I must do to get on line . I owe you a HUGE thank you! I bought 2 of these pieces of crap for my kids for Xmas this year. Got them out and thought they were terrible figured I really like the Android OS so I found a link and flashed it..... BRICK! Looked all over the net to find something that actually works. And yours did. I did what you said then mine got stuck at boot screen. I then installed the BankofWinCe and it looks like everything works great now. They may be big pieces of crap but at least they work now.THANKS!

Have you tried to put windows CE7 on it? As it supports Flash 10.1.... may be more useful.

my neighbor has a ks-umpc070va apparently from a company called Shenzhen Kinstone; i couldnt get audio with WinCE.rar, so i just flashed ChineseWinCE.rar after reboot everything changed to english anyway and works like a charm wifi audio etc... THANK YOU!!

Thank you for posting this. I bought a Chinese micro-netbook from eBay with the belief that it would be loaded with Android 2.2; it instead came with WinCE 6. Your tutorial and website give me some hope that I can flash it to 'Droid without bricking it. And if it doesn't work, I guess I can live with Windows...

@shanusav - please, remember to insert it with the largest chip faced down.

you should avoid touching the connections when handling it to avoid short-circuiting the board. I placed my fingers on both sides when I did it. maybe it is better if you wrap it with elec. tape just like what you said. 5volts won't kill you but it is important to secure the usb disk. were you able to try again?

@shanusav - Could you try to copy adroid files from a netbook running android to it too?

@shanusav - the usb disk from the netbook had four pins just like a typical usb port/plug. Just align these pins to the pins of the usb port of your pc and then it will work just like a normal usb flash drive. Could you try to copy android files to it, too?

@rjpablo234 When I first had the unit open I tried to slip the drive into my laptops USB port and got a slight electric shock and the board got warm. I decided I didn't want to risk blowing the chip so didn't try that again. I will try in a couple hours and see what I can come up with. Note to self: Wrap in electrical tape before touching live circuits.

I removed the USB disk that serves as the HardDisk of the netbook, and was able to open it using a desktop pc through a usb port. Do you think it will work if I copy all files from the usb disk of a working netbook to the usb disk of my netbook? I haven't tried it because I don't have a copy of the files from a working netbook. can you give a copy of the files on your netbook? please!

@rjpablo234 I will try this but to do it I need to take my USB drive out as well. What did you use to plug the USB into your computer? Did you have to cannibalize another USB drive for the plug?

If this works I might try looking for a working android system and trying the same thing.

May I know where you got droid 1.9 and 2.2V2, Sir? I followd your instructions, the installation run, but after install wince(after winceChinese), my netbook stops on the part where it says "loading OS image" the "smartbook" image, doesn't even appear. thank you in advance

@rjpablo234 I don't recall the sites where I got Droid versions. They were gleaned from around the internet in a desperate search for something - ANYTHING - that would work. Try flashing with the BankofWinCE version. Bankof created this script to work alone, without the need for a preflash with another script to clear anything. I have not fully tested it but it looks promising. As always, you can find it on my site.

Only problem I have is getting Youtube to work which has been a problem on pretty much every installation I've had. If anybody has a working version of CE with a Youtube that loads videos, let me know please.

@Raknyo Youtube changed their system and the youtube ap was never updated for WinCE. This is one of the biggest flaws with Windows CE. Microsoft knows it is crap and has given up maintaining it. The hope is not that Windows CE will be fixed but rather that we can find some other operating system that will work better.

@shanusav I'm selling a few of these netbooks and I think people will appeal to the windows version just because it's similar to what they'll be using on their PCs. I've managed to find a work around to getting youtube to open by going to "m dot youtube dot com" on the netbooks but I'm unable to get the TCPMP to recognize that it needs to open when I open the .3gp file on youtube. Any help anybody?

I've found adding a windows CE version of Opera greatly increases the speed of web browsing.

@Raknyo similar to, yes. but ultimately they will find the system useless and they may feel the money was a waste... or worse, they might feel scammed. Windows CE is a toy operating system on a toy computer... just my opinion.

Unfortunately the video didn't work for me but I've found installing the following fixed which was fixed by PC USER works without having to do anything beforehand.

Format your SD and extract the contents of the file you download to your SD card.

i deleted the partitions from my flash disk. now i get system disk not exist error and i dont know how to set them tho the apropriate settings. do you know how to fix the part00, part001, part002 partitions? i have no partitions.

@birdminibike I suggest downloading and running several of the Android scripts and see if one of them will restore the partitions or stop the error message at least.

WinCE_6.0_ENG_for_WM8505_V3_re­­­quired winrar.7z is the version created by Bankov Mikhail and it appears to work...though I have not tested it from a fully scrambled system. I added it to my site (BankovWinCE.rar) just so everyone has every known script at their disposal.

Mr. shanusav I wanna thank you so much for your great post :) you really saved me from a very big trouble that I had with a 7" Netbook Smart P1282GA after trying to install Android 1.6 into this netbook. Initially it had installed WinCE 6.0 in spanish. This model also has a USB hdd not a NAND flash so I failled to install Android onto it. To make it short: I managed to reinstall WinCE 6.0 onto this machine only after using: BankofWinCE.rar kit from your site. Once again - thank you very much :)

@shanusav ok well i have found so far that when i complete the install normal nk.nbo does not load the audio driver for some reason but safe does. when i use the safe as the normal i get no programs but i get sound. is there a way i could make a safe/normal combined nbo file or somehow get normal to load the drivers???

@birdminibike I have also uploaded Bankof's WinCE script. In my own preliminary tests this script appears to work as well. Perhaps this script will work better for your sound drivers.

@birdminibike the usb drive can simply be unplugged from the socket on the motherboard. A nand chip might be a bit more challenging to solder on since the pins are very close together. I suspect that only a machine can do it.

@birdminibike I do have the netbook handy. I am in the process of researching a Linux install for it. From what I can gather thus far there are 3 options to get Linux to work on the netbook: 1. install to a nand drive. 2. run from an SD that has two partitions. 3. run from an SD and a USB. So far I have had little luck with the Linux scripts but I am not giving up yet. It appears that some of these systems are stubborn... but I am more stubborn. If (or when) I succeed I will post a new video.

@stewie0056 Try this alternate method to restore your system (Andrews way)

1. Download Android 1.9. Reset the corrupted system by flashing with Android 1.9

2. Download WinCE. Reboot and flash with WinCE

3. Swap the names of the files normal_nk.nb0 and safe_nk.nb0 on the sd card

4. Flash again with WinCE

5. Restore the names of the two files on the sd cardhe 2 files on your sd-card

6. Download scriptcmd and replace the scriptcmd on the sd card (kernel folder)

7. Reboot for full working WinCE
