The RAF maintains a number of Harriers, GR8s and GR9s. The FAA Sea Harriers, which were Naval Strike Fighters have been retired. The FA2 Sea Harrier was an excellent fighter. Yes, the Marines still have aircrafts and helicopters.

You can't compare Tomcats (who are being retired now) and Hortnets with Harriers, they are totally different airplanes, for different roles. The USMC have/use a number of smaller ships, for landing operations, and there the Harrier makes sense. They also have Hornets for other use, based on the shore or (I believe) on Navy aircraft carriers.

The engine was performing perfectly but it required more go juice after the pilot inadvertently pulled back the throttle instead of his nozzles. The fact that the A/C was so low meant that the engine could not run back up sufficently fast enough to counter the forces of gravity. Fortunately, however the rockets under the pilots seat generate more than adequate thrust and are much more responsive.
