  • Fyi the Koel doesn’t like the green laser. Tested it in the evening when I spotted one in the tree before dark. Laser scared it off immediately. Tested on a second koel with same result. Note that direct contact is not necessary, the green dot on the branch/leaf is more than enough. Only thing you need is a direct line to where the bird is in the tree. i.e. I have 1 tree in the way which is a problem. Apparently the bird will migrate or move on around march and return in September.

  • I found that throwing pebbles (and rocks) worked in the end. It took about 3 mornings of getting up at 5:30 to do this, the bird didnt come back on the 4th. It did revisit the odd time and I went out to give it the good news again. It was ok for a month or 2 but another bird is using the tree, slightly later. It is waking up my new born also. Keep that in mind if you think its 'God's creature'.

  • Ahh...so THIS is the annoying little shit that squawks at twilight and in the dark, when every other sensible bird is tucked up in bed!

  • oh I cant stand there call... makes me wanna get out there with a rifle like a mad crazy woman aiming it at the trees, childish I know but when it wakes you at 4am, its call towering above all overs its bloody annoying!! great vid though

  • I wake up to it every single morning... I like birds, but i'd shoot this ****head, its so annoying!

  • The green laser didn't do much, the foliage is too thick. Even lobbing things into the tree doesn’t seem to scare them off because this one started singing again about 10 minutes later. This happened 3 times in a row this morning and I gave up. Very resilient.

  • @killiney4444 Hi, thanks for your comments. I sprayed water (from the garden hose) at the koel and it flew away.

  • This little piece of shit is waking me up at 5am every morning, its like having 'predator' outside the house, in them trees. I've just bought a laser pointer as they use this to move birds on. The red laser doesn't do much but apparently the green light is used on birds. Google 'Avian dispersal'. I like birds but not this much.

If it bleeds... we can kill it.

  • OMG! I swear this bird is out to get me. It is so persistant and seems to only cry out when no other birds are making a peep! Time like these I wish BB guns were legal!

  • i just bought my catapult from ebay. cheers.

  • yes we have had the same problems of late

  • this bird has been tormenting me!!!

  • i tell you now if this bird goes off again at 2am in the morning no one will stop me from shutting it up!!!

i use to love this bird but now i know what it does - it kills other birds chicks and the fact it keeps us up - i hate it. go to wikipedia and type in common koel, then select the Australian koel and read.

  • Don't get me wrong but I love birds, I don't care if they go cheap cheap, quack quack, or moo. but these things are damn hella annoying. any idiot that makes laws to protect these f__kers should have said bird trapped and sent to live in their neighbourhood.

  • I love these birds =). We have one here that visits eating the new berry's/fruit growing from the trees.

  • @FRr3AkOnALEaSh I guess you don't have one hooting all damn night and keeping you awake then?

Love them? I would dearly love to blow it away with a shotgun.

  • @hardstyledrifta No we don't =). A mum and her baby comes here everyday and eats some of these berry's that are growing from the tree's outside our house. Btw, shooting a bird with a shotgun just because it's "Annoying" is selfish and cruel.

  • @FRr3AkOnALEaSh Saying I would like to is one thing, doing it is another matter entirely.

Anyway, it's protected under Australian law, so even if I could get my hands on a gun, i'd probably be in lots of trouble!

I like to think about murdering it because it's the only bit of comfort I can get at 3am!

  • We have one that visits every year. He started calling out yesterday. We call him, the alarm clock bird. Today he's non-stop and at night our frogs do their best. It's good to know nature is happy although we're living next to a building site.

  • Hate these friggen things.
