The Bens seriously need a new record. There's been talk about it, but who knows? I'm thinking along with Folds, Lee, and Kweller, we need Ben Gibbard and Ben Ben Thornewill. :) THAT would be amazing.
@SchmuckoftheIrish My god, I was about to say the same thing. Thornewill accompanying Folds's piano, would be a sight. Seeing as everything Gibbard touches is gold, he's a must too. Well there ya go, there's two people ready for the new Bens.
absolute gem, as far as arrangement. Switching from guitar-bass-drums to piano-bass-drums. The entire composition is amazingly dynamic. The energy boost after the switch makes this performance (juxtaposing the simple folk-like fist half with the explosive pop finale). fantastic.
The full song of this on disc is so much better. Don't get me wrong I love this video but on the actual song you get Ben Folds playing the piano throughout which is always a treat.
Yeah I thought this might be the case, since after I asked this question I looked on the Wikipedia article for his most recent solo album, Way To Normal and it happened to have credits for a separate bassist and drummer...
Ben Folds doesn't only play piano. He plays all of the instruments in in first solo record "Rockin' The Suburbs." He also play multiple instruments in the studio for various albums.

notice how they all cheered when ben set down the guitar and finally set down at the piano. He's good at the guitar....but the piano is such a better choice in this case.
so true man, i really had never looked into ben folds, i found out about him through ben kweller who i love. i gotta say i really like his style, this is a great song
I love the incredibly good timing of Mr Folds. He hands over the guitar rather casually and sits at the keys just in time. I guess they practice til they can't get it wrong.
this song is so addicting. I like this version a lot. Ben Folds is frickin' amazed. It is indeed weird seeing him play bass, although I know that he was the bassist in his other band before ben folds five

Ben Folds went to college for percussion, but I think it's safe to say he can play any instrument he touches.
dpkrew 2 years ago 6
his fingers are magical. that's the only real answer as to why he's so amazing. [:
his piano is PHENOMENAL. But he's amazing at everything else. Magic is the only explanation.

little ben lee hiding behind that giant guitar haha. i love it! such a cool version of this song.

Does Folds play the bass on his solo albums? If so then he IS a pretty good bassist.
LeaveTheNetAlone 2 years ago
of course if not they wouldn't be solo albums
GingaPlayer2 2 years ago
He plays bass on the Rockin' the Suburbs album, but on his more recent solo albums, his live bassist Jared Reynolds plays.
