  • Yea certain members of my family that has had this done it takes 10-15 mins. Stitches free....that would hurt :-/

  • my mom had surjery 4 months back, she is diabetic .

she complains of irritation in the eye, is it perfectly normal for a sucessful surgery to feel like a normal eye ?

wont the eye feel uncomfortable with a foriegn object . ?

  • Hi guys, im 22, just been diagnosed with cateract, but, i really have no problems with vision,...do you think it could be a misdiagnosis?

  • Im 16 and having surgery tomorrow! Really nervous! Im just wondering uf it hurts

  • very good animation for the future patients before the surgery. thank u for posting

  • incredible what we can we are capable on doing

  • the procedure is so simple and results are amazing. I highly recommend this to those people who are having problems with cataracts

  • It hurt pretty much- I'll ask for more next time- and the results are phenomena! I week out, 56 years old. I got 1 valium, advil, and local.

  • I am gonna be wearing sunglasses as much as possible after the surgery

    I am 13,not 30-65!:I

Dang, this is gonna suck soo bad!:P

  • my grandma had cataract surgery, she said is was wine and simple! im glad she could see better

  • Although I was supposedly awake, I remember nothing at ll about the surgery or even meeting the opthamologist. It was painless. I got a cataract from having steroid shots in my eye. But the shots were way more painful than the surgery. The surgery was nothing, so if you are facing it, don't worry, its a breeeze and the patch comes off the next day.

  • RNpedia.com to know more about this..

  • i do like to become an opthalmologist

  • im only 16 but i have dveloped cataracts in both of my eyes

  • @clarinetstar14 lol me too but im 19 now i was 16 when i found out im having surgury soon on my left

  • I have just finished cataract surgery on both eyes. I am totally satisfied with the results. No pain involved, and just complete the eye drop procedures until the Dr. says to stop. 20/20 in both eyes now. Using 1.50 diopter reading glasses.

  • although catarract surgery is widely performed and usually takes less than 30 minutes, you should not forget that it is a surgical procedure-some people compare it with flying a jet plane-and like a surgical procedure performed by man,it has risks.I don't say this to frighten you,but to remind you that this is also a surgical procedure, because many people consider catarract surgery as the easiest surgery of all...

  • Note that you have to be awake during the procedure

  • I had surgery a month ago and still I see blurry!!!!!!!!! Everybody I know says they see very very well like to drive a car they don't need any glasses for far sided but for me it is blurry anybody like me.. and what should I do???? Help please

    Thanks Gin

  • LASIK (:

  • where did you find that ? pls pm me :D

  • My Nana and Papa had this surgery and they see much better!

  • Thank you fur such a nice video. I think she means that the incision is less than a millimeter, if it was anything close to an inch, you wouldn't need a microscope.

I had the surgery first my left eye, That very first day I took the eye patch off and I was amazed to be able to see for the first time what pixels looked like on my cell phone. :) Considering that before the surgery I couldn't see the letters and now I can see one at a time what the letters are made out of.

  • Thank you for such nice illustration I think she means that the incision is less than a millimeter, if it was anything close to an inch, you wouldn't need a microscope.

  • @deppressed1 I don't recall cataracts causing pain. However I may be wrong you should ask you're Dr and demand the to look into it if they don't.

  • my dad and I need this! -sighs-

  • I recently had cataract surgery on one of my eyes. The first thing that comes to mind is WOW! I can see clearly again!! Brought me to tears. If anyone reading this is holding back from having this procedure done, just go do it. No pain and is finished in approximeately 25 minutes. True, you have to put drops into your eyes for a couiple of weeks. Not a big thing to worry about.

As soon as my left eye is fully healed I am doing my right eye. No fear involved!

    Chas

  • @amd1090t64 I cant wait to get my right eye worked on, right now the vision is terrible. It as though someone is holding a piece of wax paper over the eye and i am unable to see anything at all. My left eye being over worked now blurs when I try to read at the computer or a simple book! Though the left eye has a small cateract in it I plan on getting that taken care of as soon as possible. Hopefully both will be taken care of by the begining of next year.

  • I thought I was the only one that compared it to holding wax paper in front of my eye, lol.

Mine was caused by having a maculor hole in my eye and they warned me that the cataract would come. I will have the left eye done on 8/31/11 and the right 9/7/11.

  • @adisneydreamer Yes and right three weeks before my surgery day it went completely white! while the other eye went as you say wax paper on me.. yep offically blind until surgery day and for christmas one eye valentine's day. No more wax paper woo! A macoulor hole? Jeepers creepers! O_O

  • @BardandQueen Good luck on your surgery!

  • An effective guide indeed. Very illustrative.

  • I was nervous too as FunnyLooking77. However, I felt pain during the operation because of pressure but today I don't feel any pain.

  • Hello. I'm 24 years old and I had a cataract surgery in august and september. Today I can see clearly again and I only use glasses when I read and use my computer. After the surgery my vision was blurred but the day after I could see clearly - more than I ever could in my entire life. A week later my vision was blurred again which was because of a retinal disease. For a week ago I had the retinal surgery and now I can almost see perfect again. My doctor tells me I can see better after 3-6 month.

  • During the eye stitches part they said remove instead of removed.

  • well, im 33 years old.. and i developed a cateract a year after i had retna detachment surgery. i was very nervous and even shaking when i was about to go threw this surgery but... to be honest people.... i had nothing to be shakey about... it was painless.. you dont feel anything, you see swirls of light, and no.. i didnt see very clear when they put in the inplant.. it took time. so dont be scared.. the only pain if any, is the I.V needle... and even that didnt hurt me.

  • @FunnyLooking77 Thank you for sharing your experience!

  • @FunnyLooking77

Hi I would like to know something. I had the surgery on my right eye a month ago today and I am not seeing well when I look far ahead. It is very blurry. Everybody I know they see very well after the surgery and don't need any glasses like to drive ot anything far.. Wondring why this is happening to me.... any suggestions.

    Thanks Gin

  • @Ginettelovetheboy funny story, after my cateract surgery, i didnt bother going to the 1 month check up.... infact, i havent gone back for about 6 months now. i too see alot of blurry-ness and my eye waters alot. i think we better go back and see our doctors, its bothersome

  • @FunnyLooking77 I am 28 years old and will have the surgery soon, it is a problem that has developed over time and though I am not nervious. My dad had his surgery just last month for both eyes since he was suffering from another eye problem as well. Two issues one surgery. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us. :D

  • @FunnyLooking77 Thanks for you comments.i am 34 and have cataracts in both my eyes.I am now less scared to death

  • @FunnyLooking77 do you have the silicon oil and can you see clearly after the cataract ?

    thank you!

  • @FunnyLooking77 very quick too , can take only 20mins somtmes ;)

  • wow awhsom video ! thanks for sharing this :) so much appreciated

  • @deppressed1 i wouldent say say thats what it is. have you asked your doctor?

  • I was born with cataracts :( but had them removed and I am unable to get implants

  • i had this done and it was amazing.i can actually see again woohoo

  • @autumnjuel yeah same :L but im going in again in 2days for my right eye , then after that no more for ever!!! wooo

  • @terminator, its a Traumatic cataract that i have, which means its caused by trauma(impact) and i still have it, its pitch gray now and i cant see but sirgery soon -_-

  • Comment removed

  • i also have a question.the doctor made this surgery at both eyes in the same week with an eye i can see better but with another is worse, what else can be done, can be replaced another lens or another surgery, please tell me

  • Im getting this surgery next week:( i was shot by a bb gun and the impact have me a tromatic cataract, anyone have tips?

  • @CoddGodd a cataract is a clouding of the lens... i don't know how a BB gun can cause a cataract.

  • i meant cararacts

  • my dad just got caterax today..:/

  • ....i hope i dont get cataracts.....

  • i have a question, why do you need to put in an artifial lense

like what about cateract surgerys in ancient times

they cut into eyes to remove cloudiness, did they insert things into the eye after the old lense was removed? I'm just curious.....

  • @papasmurfXXX They don't have to insert things, but who wouldn't want them inserted? The artificial lens can correct vision to 20/20. Without it you are either near blind or you have to wear those real thick glasses that people used to wear. I had cataract surgery and for the first time since high school i have 20/20 vision and don't need glasses.

  • oh so in historical times they didnt insert anything, therefore your could go near blind or wear really thick glasses after having your caterract removed, eh, why not people who have glasses get new lenses to cure their vision.

  • @papasmurfXXX they could, but most get lasik surgery. Either way, it's cosmentic and often not covered by insurance.

  • I've had both eyes done with local anasthetic @ 38yo with 4 weeks between procedures, i have to say the most pain i felt was the sting of the eye drops you have first, the procedures themselves were painless, to anyone having this surgery don't pannic, it just sounds and looks worse than it is

  • I have a question... is correct during this surgery used local anesthesic and sedation?... or just the first one?...

and after the surgery in how long time the patient must to wake up?...

    thanks its a doubt...

  • Either one, my son had this done at 7 years old and they used a local, my father in law had it done and they sedated him.

  • Nyc!

  • I am 40 and just had cataract surgery on my right eye. I was sedated and slept for about five minutes and then woke up and conversed with the doctor as he finished the surgery. I did not feel anything other then wetness around my eye. There was no pain during recovery either. No tylenol needed. I am having a hard time adjusting because only one eye was done. The whole operation was about 30 minutes and as I said, Painless...the anticipation is worse then the procedure! Best of luck....

  • im 12 years old and i have a cataract .. I got it due to a paint ball gun .. i was palying with my cuzin and he had a paint ball gun and so did i , so we disited to use them .. AND HE SHOT ME IN THE EYE SO i have a cataract ... It succs

  • Don't worry - they'll probably put you to sleep first.

  • oh ok well it seems Scary ..

  • Cool - this video is educational... great stuff!!

  • Last week I played a game for about 8 hours. And my eyes see HD at almost every thing i look at now. My phone looks sharper and sortof a video game. and so does grass and trees and cars. What happend to my eyes?

  • @Sherbert923 ~ Your eyes probably got so used to the HD it adjusted everything you saw to look like what the game did.. But isn't HD a good thing? I'm not a doctor, so I suggest you go to the doctor.

  • I had cataracts in both eyes, there's no way to prevent them, and the surgery to remove them was easier than you think...the day of the surgery sucks, but you walk out with pretty much perfect vision...it's amazing!

  • Educational!

  • how to prevent the cataract? I don't want to go for the surgery in future. It's so scary...

  • It is the most common operation carried out in the West, even more common than varicose veins!! Complications are rare and serious complications, VERY rare < 1 in 1500. Other than not smoking or getting obese and diabetic, there's not a lot you can do to avoid cataracts I'm afraid it's a normal part of ageing :-)

  • dont smoke weed...

  • Has there been case of the body rejecting the artificial lens?

  • The history of this is fascinating. Operating on WW2 RAF pilots who had shards of airplane windshield in their eye they found the patients eyes did not react to the material whatsoever. Thus artificial lenses were first made of PMMA. Today, in order to get lenses through a small incision, they are made of a closely related acrylic. These materials have been used for over 10 years now and the body does not reject them. Sometimes, new cells can grow on the lens but this can be treated with lazer.

  • The surgery was done in ancient Rome but sticking a hollow needle into the eye and sucking out the lens or flipping over the lens

  • Ahaha and I was thinking about getting eye surgery! I don't think I'd be very comfotable with people making incisions on my eyes.

  • you really don't notice it, if they don't use stitches, you have no idea where the incision is...until you watched this video!

  • why do they say that, it is common musicians have this problem more than normal people?

  • @likitty20 no. It did not hurt.

More bad news though. Laser did not work. Had a vitrectomy And buckle today. 5 hour surgery. Recovering at home. Eye is patched. No pain here either.

  • i had cataract surgery in 2003. in 1984, got hit in the face playing soccer. took a year before i was diagnosed with detached retina. Repaired with with technigque that scarred the retina and a gel blob was in my eye. had to sleep at 45 degrees and in hospital for a week. In 2003 eye got cloudy ina a week, lense replaced. I cannot see well neither far nor near. Now, 2009, wednesday, diagnosed with 2 retnal tear. repair with laser and freezing. currently home recooperating. i hate soccer.

  • usrbin1, I wish you the best of luck with recovering!

    Get well soon!

  • I think is time for you to let your eyes heal first before playing any sports or any other activity.

  • did it hurt usrbin1?

  • is this better than lasik surgery?

  • this is not related to lasik

  • that means i can play soccer, but you need thick plastic goggles worn

  • no way id wanna be asleep

  • I will be having cataract surgery done on both of my eyes within 5 weeks.. thanks for the video !

  • Comment removed

  • so cool. i got my cataracts removed on my right eye. it was a weird experience. i'm really nearsighted and it really improved my vision so much!

  • Comment removed

  • can you make one animation on micro fracture surgery?

  • Be concerned about your safety! Avoid the complications of Lasik by being prepared which you can do by checking out a site like safelasikguide [ . ] com or something similar and read everything you can before even thinking about getting the surgery!

  • ok i watched almost all of the vidoes from this channel but this is the only one thats kinda freaked me out..stitches on ur eye??!!!!aahhh..

  • Same Here!

It was scary. Imagine some one messing inside your eye with a sharp object

  • If they're the dissovable sort you probably won't even know they're there.

  • Really wonderful one,

Is there any treatment for the Lazy Eye syndrome as i heard that there is no such treatment currentl for the Lazy eye syndrome

  • I realize this improves the person's vision, but does it improve their perscription? LIke if they wore glasses before, do they still need to? Or is the surgury just remove the cateract and that's it?

  • cataract surgery removes a cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear lens implant. this implant will also replace the need to wear glasses.

  • oh I get it, thanks!

  • you will still need glasses for reading, unless you have had private surgery. in private surgery, the fake lens that goes into your eye actually has focusing power for distance and reading - so you don't need glasses for reading either.

  • ah, informative! Thanks [:

  • sspeedy3,

The differentiating factor is not "private" vs "public" These special lenses can be used anywhere but cost a lot extra for the patient (about $2000 to $2500 per eye) and are not a good option for many patients. They work very well in the correctly selected patient only. This depends on characteristics of the patients eye as well as their visual demands.

  • This surgery...... It's good to know already what they should do to my eye.......

  • I will have an eye surgery in High School.

  • Tell me how it goes, i might decide to get a surgery too.

  • When you get to the hospital they dilate your eyes a couple times then when your in surgery you can either choose anesthesia/sleeping gas or a shot to make you fall asleep then they cut into your cornea and insert the new lens after you will either have stitches but it itches fairly bad. dont itch it or the new stitches will come out opening the cut your doctor made. enabling you to have eye infections and re undergo the stitching process

  • sounds painful...

    Thanks!

  • Well worth it, your welcome!

  • I would have to be given a general anesthetic were I ever to have to have any sort of eye surgery. I cannot handle general eye exams, and I've passed out from anxiety. I could more happily let my right arm be amputated sans medication than let someone touch my eye! Yikes...

  • they can give you a general sedative, you go to sleep before, then wake up after they are completely done, they do it on patients who ask, or some that are likely to flinch(like in your case) if they see the instrument coming...i am the same way, i had to be knocked out, it was fine

  • Absolutely wonderful. Thanks again and again.

  • I've been surfing thru your animations. They are incredible and very informative. I definitely will spend more time looking thru the rest. Thank you.

  • subhanallah... how perfect the the God create uman organ and its function..this is what we can say as the God miracle..

  • Awesome video.

  • Thank You Are a Blessing to be world,

In my theory one eye drop will change the eyeballs waters proteins so in any the patent gets an intraocular lens implant that is a cell that grows to the size need

This is how I invison it being done. A needle injects the cell that is grown my wear a growth light build in a pair of sun glasss. the chip in the sun g

  • I had it done a lens was put in the front of the eye and my vision got very poor i was better off using a contact lens

  • Great 3d medical animation on cataract removal.

  • Three small incisions, less than 1 inch long?

    That seems unclear to me.

Is each incision less than 1"?

Are all 3 together less than 1"?

It doesn't seem possible to make anywhere near 3 1" incisions within the front of my eye.

    Just curious.

  • each incision less than 1"

  • Actually, most modern surgeons make only 2 incisions. The main incision is usually 2.2 to 2.8 millimeters in width and the accessory incision is 1.0 to 1.2 millimeters. ( there are 25.4 millimeters in one inch). That is probably the most common scenario but many other incision configurations exist. So you are correct that no one would ever make 3 separate 1 inch incisions in the eye, that would be a disaster, for that matter even one 1 inch incision would be quite bad and far too large.

  • this a much easier way to look at cataract surgery- medical animation takes the creepy factor out but I still under stand all the steps

  • This 3d medical animation of cataract removal surgery is very informative and educational. This is great patient education material!

  • Amazing 3D medical animation on cataract removal surgery.
