While some other comments were so focused on the new lead, I just wanted to say that Tom and Mark have one of the best, if not the very best bari/bass match I have ever heard. So accurate. Finesse. Power. Amazing.
LOL - you guys are so funny - this was like in the wee hours of the morning - we were all SO wiped after the long travel. And yes, more importantly, Doug had this WICKED flu that he could barely sing (it lasted for like 4 months!) - we were all so worried he was going to damage his voice by singing through it!
Anytime you see *any* quartet on an afterglow - take it with a grain of salt - they have often been singing for hours and hours, and are pretty ready to fall down. :)
Wow...some of you made it sound like they sucked in this video...but they didn't. Was the performance solid? Not like they usually are, but their sound was still excellent.
In July at the AIC show I think that Realtime was the best performing quartet on the show. Vocal Spectrum was absolutely fantastic aswell but Real Time had a smoothness and fullness that is unmatched right now. Doug in my opinion gives a better blend and personality to the sound of the quartet. They would win gold again if they could compete. Terrific stuff and please chromagic don't stop posting these videos. We are lucky to share in them with you.
....I do not know if you have any idea about German Barbershoppers? It's not often that we can hear world-class quartets, so we beg them to sing over and over again.
I was so happy when Realtime allowed me to put that video on youtube, but now I feel uncomfortable about the way you talk about them, that I am thinking about deleting that video. It was thought to be a nice souvenir of that great time we had with them! Gabriele
I am the one who made that video and I was searching for somebody, who could write my impressions about your discussion in a better English. That failed, so I hope you are less censorious then (most of) you are with Realtime.
You should know, that they sang that song in this very last after-after-afterglow of our Germen convention on sunday morning for the first time in their new formation. As carryonbari already mentioned, with jet-lag and....
Just so you know, Doug was getting over a bad cold that day. I've heard them several times when he's in good health, and the sound is incredible. And amen to that, carryonbari. :p
John left big shoes to fill. The fact is that he is out of the picture and *someone* has to take over. I agree that Doug isn't as good... but hardly anyone is. Doug does his best and he does it to help the boys continue singing.
I think we should be grateful that we have John Newell's voice on record, singing these arrangements with Realtime. And I think we should accept that this is a new and different foursome.
ouch those are some harsh words... I'm so tired of Doug getting reamed on. This guy is an OUTSTANDING lead, and Realtime is lucky to have found somebody so talented, so easily. Everyone makes it seem like Doug can't even sing....this guy posts A naturals at the end of Midnight Serenade..he's a fantastic singer constantly being insulted by nostalgic fans of 05 realtime.. :(
Wow that was beautiful. What a blend, what expressiveness and what a bass.

It's still a really great sound. Most quartets would be so lucky...

I think the sound is thicker and better...nothing against John. Many other videos to prove it.
