van brunt st......1982-1995....I spent alot of time on coffee st. with my friends. we were a few of the very few italian kids in the neighborhood. we would hang out all day and night, wanting nothing more than each other and that one cool thing to talk about the next day. Our lives were so simple but so amazing. It would be great to find someone I know from there, so if you think you know me, take a guess

I was born and raised in Red Hook, Brooklyn.. the tall projects in front of Coffey Park (1987-2007). It was a really f***** difficult childhood and I couldn't STAND the negativity, drugs, gangs, poverty, and poor education. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but most of the people who were in the video weren't even from the heart of what is REALLY Red Hook. Since moving out I heard it's actually improving and changing which is awesome. Hopefully this neighborhood really gets together and becomes....

Part 4: Looking back, I loved Red Hook. I never felt unsafe there. Coffey park separated the neighborhood. All the bad activities were happening on one side, the projects side, and the other side was quiet and safe. Two different worlds. Red Hook is a small, quaint and different town. Now it is getting better and the white folks are moving back in. I'm glad it is getting better. I'm glad I grew up there. Have a lot of great memories. I do visit every so often. Red Hook to the heart!

Part 3: We finally moved out in the mid 80's to a house on Pioneer Street, across the street from the projects. We bought it for $14,000. I continued enjoying my childhood there growing up with the other kids on the block. Years later in the 2000's we sold the house for about half a million. We did good.

i use to live on pioneer st i lived at 88 pioneer st i left red hook in 1992 glad i left but you right the park did seperate us from the projects but i hung in the projects all my friends lived there anyway thought i knew u my name is angela and i have a brother name peewee u probably know us

Part 2. Then in the late 70's early 80's it started getting messed up. People from other places started moving in and with their welfare and drug activities, it began to get unsafe. The white folks moved out.The project hallways and stairways started getting dingy. People hanging out smoking weed and selling.

Part 1. My experience growing up and living in Red Hook: I grew up in the tall projects in the 70's and it was very nice and safe. There were actually white people living there too. It was a fun childhood. I played outside in Coffey park, or in any of the small playgrounds around the projects.
