"Neighborhood can go in many many different directions" = "nothing really happening out here." The girl who left SoHo because "everyone was so aloof" really left because she couldn't afford her lease.
What? What is this guy talking about? This is far from historic? Go to Red Hook Alumni on facebook if you want historic. We could tell you about the projects, Clinton St., Court St., The back (Van Brunt, Richards St. Pioneer Street.)
van brunt st......1982-1995....I spent alot of time on coffee st. with my friends. we were a few of the very few italian kids in the neighborhood. we would hang out all day and night, wanting nothing more than each other and that one cool thing to talk about the next day. Our lives were so simple but so amazing. It would be great to find someone I know from there, so if you think you know me, take a guess
.... a better community and I know that will take time. I never understood what yuppies saw in Red Hook but then again they are only in the borderline (harbor). Being raised Red Hook has not only made me a survivor but fighter and believer that change comes from ME. I hope and believe that my Red Hook people learn that they can do the same too ;)
I was born and raised in Red Hook, Brooklyn.. the tall projects in front of Coffey Park (1987-2007). It was a really f***** difficult childhood and I couldn't STAND the negativity, drugs, gangs, poverty, and poor education. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but most of the people who were in the video weren't even from the heart of what is REALLY Red Hook. Since moving out I heard it's actually improving and changing which is awesome. Hopefully this neighborhood really gets together and becomes....
I Love this Video and also I checked out your Channel. Very interesting! If you need any help getting this Video and your Channel exposed to were it is top in all the search I found this site called tubeviews.(net) that has took my breath away. I'm working on my 4th Channel now, this one I just made. My Videos are getting so many hits now. Check it out and keep in touch.
This piece was obviously created by an utterly clueless gentrifying douchenozzle, I could write a book on how wrong they got this. Red Hook Resident 1982-2006 Red Hook R.I.P.
Part 4: Looking back, I loved Red Hook. I never felt unsafe there. Coffey park separated the neighborhood. All the bad activities were happening on one side, the projects side, and the other side was quiet and safe. Two different worlds. Red Hook is a small, quaint and different town. Now it is getting better and the white folks are moving back in. I'm glad it is getting better. I'm glad I grew up there. Have a lot of great memories. I do visit every so often. Red Hook to the heart!
Part 3: We finally moved out in the mid 80's to a house on Pioneer Street, across the street from the projects. We bought it for $14,000. I continued enjoying my childhood there growing up with the other kids on the block. Years later in the 2000's we sold the house for about half a million. We did good.
i use to live on pioneer st i lived at 88 pioneer st i left red hook in 1992 glad i left but you right the park did seperate us from the projects but i hung in the projects all my friends lived there anyway thought i knew u my name is angela and i have a brother name peewee u probably know us
wait i know i know u i live on pioneer st 2 now its only 1 person i know that move from the tall buildings and they name was elizabeth alice mildred maybe just taken a guess
Part 2. Then in the late 70's early 80's it started getting messed up. People from other places started moving in and with their welfare and drug activities, it began to get unsafe. The white folks moved out.The project hallways and stairways started getting dingy. People hanging out smoking weed and selling.
Part 1. My experience growing up and living in Red Hook: I grew up in the tall projects in the 70's and it was very nice and safe. There were actually white people living there too. It was a fun childhood. I played outside in Coffey park, or in any of the small playgrounds around the projects.
My family survived Red Hook. I checked it out last summer. It's still the crumbeling, poverty stricken area that it has been for years. It broke my heart. What a sales job! Trendy, NO.. All Lies
cont'd... The waterfront is not shit and the majority of the Red Hook Housing residents are good people, as if there aren't drugs and crime everywhere, as for the asshole who stated that we do not deserve such a view, what the f*%K makes you think you do.
For all you people who think RedHook is just the PJ's the entire area is REDHOOK, there is no Liberty Heights and hopefully there never will be. For the new members in our community thank you for the divirsity. Welcome to my home. Red Hook has always been great crackheads and all, lived here for a good 40 years. So, for future reference Red Hook
born and raised in Red Hook.. Red Hook projects is actually one of the largest projects in NY(RED HOOK East,Holla!). Only the strong survive.. RIP! Mr. Daly!! Shame it took your death for anyone to care about the violence!! Flag Pole, Slidetime girl 4life!! No matter where I go, that goes with me!! STRAIGHT OUT OF BKLYN!
