@hazuken wwe did not under rate him. Vince had plans to push him big time. Vince wanted to give him a very long IC run, but rick declined. He was never a full time wrestler, and didn't want to commit his entire life to wrestling, which is why if you see recent pics of him now, he looks very good and healthy for his age. He was a great talent, but he clearly had a life outside of wrestling.

@mathraua I'm a referee for some indy leauges in Minnesota & once I was booked on a show with Tito Santana. He told me Martell was preped for an IC title run, but got out of WWF for a while because his wife got very sick & for a while, it looked like she was going to die, so Martell took time of to take care of her. On a postive note, Rick's wife did get better & is still alive today.

During his time as The Model, the man really did look like one. He was the Shawn Michaels of his team (Tito Santana/Rick Martel) because he definitely went somewhere while "El Matador" failed. What made it even better was that he was actually a GOOD wrestler too.
