    S CARINO

  • this song is legendary

  • What a great presentation! Thank you so much, Rare Soul! I just discovered this group and am ABSOLUTELY ENCHANTED by Leroy Griffin's voice. A lot of wonderful people and things things originated in New Haven. I was born there and live hard by. Thanks again!

  • As a kid it was in a juke box at the summer place we went to..all I could remember was the bells ringing at the beginning, such a great song....brings me back to the summers when I was a kid....

  • I was born in the wrong era. The music of the '50s and '60s is a million times better than the pop-shlop of today.

  • They are Angels

    I jove Doo Wop

    From Chile, Celena

  • They should play these songs on the radio . I bet many new fans would be thrilled as we were and this music will live forever in our hearts.. I am so glad TJ Lubinsky brings the doo wop to PBS. TJ lives just one town over from where I live.

  • I love the nutmegs, story untold is one of my favorites and I cant get over the beautiful voices of these young men, of yesteryear . They dont make music like that today. I sincerely feel that all these great groups and singers of the doo wop era should all be automatically enshrine in the Rock N roll hall of fame. Their achievements and contributions will never be fogotten

  • It doesn't get any better than this! Just Great!

  • if anyone has deep in my heart by the nutmegs-please post

  • Dowwnload the audio from this video at thetunify doht cohm.

  • I have this on Hearld What a great tune Emotional

  • my great grandpa :D! 5/5

  • beautiful song! they don't make theem like this anymore, coming from a 20 year old english guy this is one of the most soulful records i've heard, up there with blue valentine by the solitaires etc.

  • awesome vibes thank you Namaste

  • Perhaps it didn't do much nationally, but, in Saint Louis, it kicked ASS! I still remeber the party that introduced.

  • GREAT!

  • These are the forgotten groups of R&R from the FIFTIES. It's shame. Only the record companies and producers made any money.

  • the Lyres version (same group as nutmegs) is a different version of this recording ,does not have the ships bells in the beginning> the other side of ship of love on J&G also has a different flip called "Playboy" ( great!!! hardly ever heard ! ) it was a 78 rpm only ,however it was bootleged on 45 rpm .................

    ERIK VONDERLIETH

  • @rocknroll1955 JRussoBuffaloNY has Playboy by the Lyres posted, check it out

  • @FriedrichSternberg thanks !!!!

  • play the'e old ones

  • THE SHIP OF LOVE has that group harmony collectors sound

    I simply love THE NUTMEGS

    Manny the Dominican Doowoper

  • This was great in Mean Streets.

  • Great informative slide show too!

  • The Nutmegs, mid 50's, forgotten by many but not me, and you.

So fine! So right! So 'I love you' good.

Herald #459, flip is Rock me, 1955. But recorded by the Lyres on J&G, 1953. Same group.

  • Great post (incluidng the old labels). Shifting Sands by the Rajahs was a pretty good record. Didn't know it was the Nutmegs.

  • @MROSEN62 Nutmegs recorded under a number of names, Lyres, Rajahs and Four Haven Knights. If I forgot one or two, someone will remember.

  • @09mskitty Also, the Nutmegs/Lyres/Rajahs were just about the finest acapella group going. Quite a few examples of their acapella work are out there on YouTube to be enjoyed.

  • What these guys did in1955 set the standard,,correct me if I am wrong but they intruduced the Rolling Bass, with McNeil, and changed the sound of 50's r&b..DZ from the Bean

  • I just realized something crazy. It's been awhile since I first found this video and it sparked my interest in the Nutmegs and I wanted to buy an original copy of "Ship of Love." Well, I bought a copy off Ebay that came from Norm Nite's personal collection and now looking at your video again, I realize that I actually bought THE very record you have pictured at 2:04. You found the photo from the Ebay listing, as I recognize the blemishes in the label. I thought it looked familiar!

  • what a great group the nutmegs was a legendary singer as lead a super voice and what a waste saddend to hear the way he died many thanks for uploading

  • This song, with "Story Untold" and "Whispering Sorrows" will forever enshrine the Nutmegs among the all-time great groups in the original rock and roll music.

  • I almost forgot this song but I remembered the words. A great group! Thank you raresoulcom for posting.

    Bob

  • Leroy Griffin....fine lead vocals

  • great voice*****

  • This great song appears in the great Martin Scorsese film, "Mean Streets". Now, they are inseperable. When I hear this, I think of Scorsese, De Niro, and Keitel.

  • One of the great flicks...many memorable moments in it, but I loved the beginning when Bobby drops the cherry bomb and walks away 'un-noticed', covering his ears, and the poolroom fight ('he called me a mook! What's a mook?'), and great soundtrack

  • Beautiful song!!
