I can't remember a time when any of these Vogons have pissed me off so much. Something must change in Washington and I don't mean changing the campaign slogan from the last campaign. First Bernanke, the Fed Chairman didn’t understand inflation or currency, now the Secretary of Energy doesn’t understand energy development and distribution. We’ve been through all of this in the 1970’s. Were they some of the dopers who missed the ‘70s because they were too high? Where do they find these guys?

CO2 is an infrared absorber. If right wing doesn't tell you that, then learn real science like this. My channel has a 30 second scare tactic (which is true!)...
John R. Christy has been accused of recanting his position that climate change is neither Anthropogenic nor Catastrophic, but he didn’t. He used two independent data sets, weather balloon and satellite. (see links in my about me) Later he only stated that there was some anthropogenic impact that could not be predicted 100 years out, but that what we’re doing was good for the plants.
@Twilightifyable What is your problem? Are you some kind of flat-earther or just a contrarian who doesn't believe in science? Go comment on some right-wing site where they explain everything with the Bible.
1 /2 Obama stop offshore drilling until it was reinstated. This could cause a $5 a gallon increase, because we would grow dependent upon foreign nations we are not allies with in order to provide our oil. Cap and Trade (American Power Act) would increase gas prices increase by $2.58 a gallon according to George C. Marshall Institute& taxes on the average household up to $3200 according to the RNC Foreign countries price gouge w/ gas prices to $10/gal!.
Rapid commercial deployment of Natural Gas Vehicles, all sizes, is scalable. To make this happen NGVs should be included in targets for deployment of advanced technology vehicles by 2015 and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles should be included in longer term targets. NGVs use proven technologies and domestic supplies of NG ensure that this CNG and LNG motor fuels will be much less expensive and cleaner than alternatives, NGVs are affordable, clean and cost-effective IF mass produced by OEMs.
@bruderly Natural gas is a fossil fuel. It is NOT clean, it does not burn clean, and considering its entire life cycle, it's another dirty fossil fuel. Fracking is destroying water sources and making people sick. This is another non-solution that is just going to make T. Boone Pickens and various members of Congress very wealthy.
Please come to my channel.. I posted a recent oil analysis regarding events in Egypt. By the time Sec Chu and President Obama get moving (2035!) it will be far too late for this country.
@wepollock it's already too late, we are being left in the dust on renewable energy. We're still looking at more fossil fuels, because we are totally addicted. China is already overtaking us.
By the way, everyone should know that T. Boone Pickens has invested half a billion dollars in the Alberta Tar sands oil. He stands to make billions polluting the environment up in Canada. 2006, CBS news. The Pickens Plan is a big fraud. He has no problem with "foreign" oil at all.
@shellius yep.. left behind in the dust. We are going to be like communist countries I visited; with people carrying around propane tanks in the trunk as petrol was not available.
Empty talk by a bumbling bureaucrat who in 2 years has accomplished nothing. (btw I'll do your homework for you - Sputnik was in 1957. ) Add elimination of his job to the deficit reduction plan.
On the issue of nuclear waste you could have just said that the amount of waste one person would produce over their lifetime would fit inside of a soda can, and the amount of waste produced by the US over a year would fit inside a NY Brownstone. That waste is also controllable as opposed to the literally mountains of waste produced by fossil fuels. Look up my friend Gwyneth Cravens author of "Power to Save the World: The Truth About Nuclear Energy"
Can we exploit gas hydrates (which seems to be an abundant energy form to power the whole planet for the next 3000 years) in a manner of securing US energy independence?
What keeps us from extracting gas hydrates from the western and east US coasts seabed?
We don't have until 2035... This economy (and our future as America) will be long-dead before then. Were we to assign grades we are performing at Failing levels. Rhetoric does not assure result. Yes you are correct its very important to our prosperity. But 2035 represents a fatal crawl. This is a total disastrous lack of jingoistic delusion.
Where is our high speed rail, "I am not talking about token routes in Tampa or to Buffalo NY!" Where are our new nuclear reactors? China has been building them out within short timeframes. How safe our our 40 year old reactors? Why have we failed to take care of nuclear waste. This backward level and under-committment to our future will not prove acceptable. Our sputnik moment is an exploding space-shuttle moment of failure. It is not acceptable. We don't have a decade.
By the time we ramp up "education" it will be too late.. Our educational system does not align with comprehensive anticipatory design science. Its time for this administration to translate rhetoric to result. There was no problem plying criminal financial activity with money.. Spending money to a productive future before its too late seems to be at issue.

I like his local vs. global pollution perspective. That's very informed way of looking at it.

@wepollock Exactly. Most world targets are 2020 or before. 2035 is ridiculously late.
