@1988Ranger4X4 It was still 4x4. He had to get a different driveshaft IIRC. Sorry for the lack of detail, it's been quite a while and it's not my truck. I just helped him do the swap.
well i know i will be yelled at but add 2 degrees of timing to the 2.9 and it help them alot.... but then again if you build up a mitubishi 5sp out of a 2.9 and throw a 302 or 5.0(this one is efi) at it you accually get better mileage and power. cool huh this is because the bigger motor doesnt have to try as hard to do the work
@exbass94 Yeah. What started this whole swap idea was the stock trans went on the 2.9. When my friend told me the price of a rebuilt trans, I said you should just swap a 302 or 351 in there. It cost a bit more than just the new E4OD (IIRC?), but damn it was worth it. Completely different truck witha solid built C4.
@bigbubba357m My 2.9L has a Mitsubishi tranny and it is infinitely better than the Toyo Kogyo transmissions. There were many variations of Mitsubishi and Toyo Kogyo manual transmission on the old Rangers.
I want that truck...

slowscort 1 year ago
@slowscort i would put a smallblock if your planin on taking curves fast a bigblock is better for drag so it wont be a rollover factor

is it a posi rear end

This is an awesome swap! The 351 is supposed to be a lot more difficult than a 302 swap, so kudos to you guys for completing the project.

were you still able to keep the 4x4 with the V8? If so, was it hard to fit the transfer case?

@bobrossftw would a 302 bolt up to a mistubishi tranny in a 2.9?
ihitatree 1 year ago
@ihitatree No, the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. Even if it did bolt up, it's not nearly strong enough to handle a V8.

@ihitatree The tranny for the 2.9 is a mazda not a mizu.

@460fordtruckman I believe it was a 3" body lift. The lift was already in there before the swap. I would say the lift made some things much easier.
90gtvert 1 year ago
@90gtvert ya becuse i did with a 400 hp 302 and i had to lift the body so the motor would fit
460fordtruckman 1 year ago
did u use headers or manifolds for the swap?
306ranger 2 years ago
@306ranger He used manifolds off of a Maverick. He had a set of custom made headers from another guy with a ranger, but they didn't fit..

dam... thats the cleanest 2.9 ive ever seen...
wonder how long those tires lasted lol
