@onlywhenpissed Dead easy trip this one Matt,no tides to worry about, and the rock formations are splendid. They did a good piece about it on "Coast" Llandwyn Island is a seperate tectonic plate itself!! the beach the other side is usually good for surf as well, but you have to watch out for the wreck in the shallows!
@GBPaddling I'll be in the belly ofthe beast this Thursday. Will take the GoPro and my old tape cam just in case there are any wave assisted kayak wet dismounts and ejections. Just hope the seal police aren't patrolling.
@MickeysHits I've used 3 different ones, think this was the Panasonic nv-gs120 it's a 3ccd model, compact and as well as excellent picture, superb at recording sound as well, which as you know is a huge part of the overall ambience in a Seascape. The other cameras used are Panasonic nv-gs 180 and 320.The 180 just developed a strange fault inexplicably, think its all to do with using them in a hostile marine enviroment, and as such is an occupational hazard.
About 130 degrees south of Kimya (you can see her on Google maps) is a small rock peninsula with a deep cleft leading into it. The cave is either up that creek or very close by on the peninsula. Not many folks know about it so shhhhh, dont tell no one :)
I'd send you the Google map image on here but I think they'd stuff me fer copyright..
Oh, just remwmbered, to the south of Llanddwyn at very low tide you'll see fossil tree stumps. Mut've been a prehistoric forrest millions of years ago.
Have you got clips of Meani Straits by any chance? I was brought up in Menai Bridge also an' always escaped to go crabbing there. I used to cop-it off me ma for worrying her sick, and coming home covered in sh....
@WiresAnSteel Very interesting comment, didn't know about the tree stumps at Llanddwyn, but did know about the ones n.r. Aberystwyth.Millions of years you say? Well its actually 7000yrs.Think about that - how much the sea level has risen in 7000yrs and how much fuss over global warming because the sea level has risen a bugs d#ck in 50! Have footage of Menai Bridge, but it was very dull at the time,so it's not too clever.
I went for a first sea kyaking lesson yesterday -not too many miles from here. I wanna go again!
I was in a Dagger Approach 9 which I believe is a basic trainer? Fantastic! We even sampled moving water with an ebb tide at the Swellies..
I also had a go in a sea kyak, but found it well wobbly. I won't be ready for them just yet I reckon. It did cut through the water smoothly though. Do they ever stop wobbling or do you just not worry about it?
@WiresAnSteel The "Experts" will tell you that no sea kayak is tippy,2 things about that are 1 it's easy to say when you're an expert and 2 some are tippy! Look it's like riding a bike, horrible at first but trust me you do get used to it,and I was terrible at first, had 2 or 3 small trips and didn't think it would do for me,and was on the verge of giving up.Try a lot of shallow water stuff, play about in small surf,if you go you can push back up off the seabed, practise edging in shallow water.
@GBPaddling Thanks for the great encouragement. I wondered if it was similar to balancing a bike for the first time.
My dream is to tour the coast of Lleyn. I'm guessing the long boat would take less effort?
I'll potter around Aglesey easier bays like Moelfre for experience. Must admit though I really like the idea of exploring gully's. Theres a cool cave just under Bodorgan, near where "Kimya" sank. I've been in it with a dory years ago so it's fairly big.
@WiresAnSteel I've done the Trevor - Porth Dinllaen trip a number of times and can confirm it is superb, last Easter, could see Anglesey and the coast of Ireland easily! Keep threatening to post a video, but keep going to Scotland and posting them instead! The waters around Bardsey are treacherous, and need excellent conditions to navigate, once beyond it is quite benign and very quiet indeed until Abersoch.I've dived the Kimya but can't recall the cave in question.Trearddur Bay is riddled with caves
@MickeysHits It was starting out about 11.30 am and returning about 4pm,don't forget it was close to the shortest day, everyone was probably Christmas shopping(Don't usually start 'till dinnertime Christmas Eve myself!) so I was out there all alone it was totally amazing, peaceful, and freezing, the sunset was like being on another planet.
Sums it all up really ! to think I used to live in Menai Bridge and eventually moved away, now aged 50 and back into kayaking I'm taking my kids back there in the summer to paddle with them, nice video - thanks.
Might see yers out there then! One of the best aspects of,Wales and indeed the whole of the U.K. is the great variety we have,Llanddwyn is totally unique, and that particular day,I only saw a handful of people - silence is indeed golden!
Thanks,it was a stunning day, couldn't go wrong really.Last year me & Stephen went on Boxing Day,and it was nearly as good, and people were SWIMMING, no kidding, probably escaped from somewhere for the day or something!
Great shot at 6:15.

Oh Thaaats where it is, I've often heard of one around there somewhere. I don't think it's worth the risk of going blind ey? - even with one eye :)
Good deterrent for pirates tho....
