I'm a Cantonese boy in Cholon - an area where concentrate many Chinese people of Saigon Vietnam. So I like to listen many Cantonese songs from the pass to the present. Pann Shing Yim (Bin Cheng Yan) is one of my like Cantonese songs.
As I learned from a magazine, this melody was written by Wang Yue Sheng, tailor-made for Fang Yan Fen to sing in the film 'Pretty Girl from Penang' (1954).
芳艷芬 - 檳城艷 1961. Because I lived in Li Cheng Uk Estate, accross the street was a music juke box and this song was so popular that it was played a few time everyday. I was 5 or 6 at that time. So you konw I am old old. Thanks A Million "Zoundcracker"
Seems unlikely. The lyric of this song is close to modern poems, while Tong Tik Sang is better trained in Chinese classics (old-styled Chinese). Of course I may be wrong.
If I had a youth to mis-spend again, I would mis-spend it in Hong Kong and other places in the Far East -- that is, if it didin't suffocate me! Thank you for the recording.
