its over all lay out is much like it,but the underground bunkers in Mt. Sariboji do not exist exept for a modded bunker at the top. And there r no towns like in the movie.

I researched it and there was a little town on Iwo Jima. The people where told to evacuate before the battle. The town got obliterated from bombing.

Yes much better than COD and DOD.

The beauty of BF1942 and the basic game and still popular mods like DC DCF FH is that the game allows 64 players and masses of vehicles aeroplanes to be used on the map at once, BF2 while being a better graphics engine suffers from a lack of vehicles in game at the same time. A BF2 server will lag badly if more than say 8 planes are airborne,

BF1942 can have 20 plus and still work smoothly. Plus ships work much better in BF1942, only the 'Battleship' mod for BF2 finally proved DICE wrong when they said moving ships (forget the RHIBS) could not be done in BF2.

BF1942 while being a 2002 (plus updates) game engine still has good multiplayer potential and 2000 plus people are still playing it at any one time.

Maps BIG :), BFtracker way back tracked over 5000 maps for BF1942, a lot of the 50 plus mods obviously used the same basic 20 plus stock Bf1942 maps, with each mod adding in their own custom maps.

FH has 90 odd maps, FHSW 84 maps, BG42 90ish, DC 50, DCF 70, DCX 90, DCFX 100, plus the many many map packs for the various mods by mod, mapper or comp teams, plus the thousands of individual maps, I had 50+ mods installed at one point (nearly 40GB) and 1400+ maps :)

One silly but fun thing about BF1942, that BF2 sadly doesnt allow is wing walking and tank riding, you die if on a moving vehicle in the later games, Bf1942 allows more fun open gameplay.

Nothing like stalking a tank from behind, then jumping on top to set off demo packs, or annoy the occupants by scratching the paint with a knife, or stealing the enemy tank if they hop out to try shoot you.

Ummmmm its 20 bucks for the complete ww2 collection or some other thing( Forgot what it was called :P) which includes BF1942 and its 2 expansion packs and battlefield vietnam. You can use US, British, German, Japan, and Russian and if u bought that complete collection with the 20 bucks then the road to rome expansion adds in France and Italy.

Forgotten Hope actually adds even more than the expansion packs; FH adds Australia, Canada, Finland, Poland, 88 mm guns and a lot of new maps amount other things. You should get FH if you haven't already DLed it.
