it looks like a "low profile" security detail where these contractors are "blending in" with the civilians trying not to draw attention, maybe escorting a Iraqian/afghanistan official somewhere till they got ambushed.
for the mp5 IMO is a perferred choice judging because your "security" mostly escourting someone and most of the time in buildings and its easier to bring out of the car and can be easily concealed
