by "roll" do you mean cylinder record? In this case, this would be a valid question, cylinder versus flat-disc recording.
The only kind of "roll" made out of perforated paper, that I can think of relating to this would be for the Encore Banjo and Banjorchestra player banjo instruments. Some of these rolls are pretty good, but NONE of them are hand-played; all were arranged in the factory by musicians using the drafting-board method.

I think the year is 1905,
this is not a recording on roll, but a banjo player

oh im sorry, i am just wondering if you are aware of this recording being originally issued on a roll or as a 78?
