Do you know what kind of bird it was? i saw blue jays and the ones on your finger looks like a jay but i am not sure, i would be happy if you could help me :-)
I was there in mid-July this year. I'm going back again and again and again. One travel book I read said that some call this stretch of Hwy 20 the most beautiful 135 miles in the US. If someone knows of another place that compares with this, let me know. I'll go there this summer and get back to you with my assessment.
It is bad for the wild animals, not to mention illegal, to feed them. The bird you are feeding is called the Grey Jay, AKA "Camp Robber." Many visitors to the Cascades get very annoyed with them because people feed them, so the birds try to get food from people who are hiking and camping. Please stop feeding wild animals.
Man you are so lucky to be there, That is the most beautiful state to live in. I need to move so badly. I cant wait.

We have always called them 'camp robbers' but I believe their real name is Clark's Nutcracker.

It is amazing, coastal tidelands to rainforest, on to alpine wonderland then down into high mountain desert along the Columbia River.
