Omg, I cannot believe this store was still open'd when they did the story. I'm not sure if this is the same family, but they used to have a magic shop on Frankford Ave.near Foulkrod Street way back in the 80's. I'm 42 now and I remember me and my cousins going to their store. If this is the same family I remember them living on Wakeling Street and their house catching on fire on the 4th of July in maybe 81 or 82. Sorry to hear about his passing.
I grew up on Paul st. around the corner from the store. He use to sell Inner tubes for bikes. I'll never forget the smell that store had. I'm sorry to hear the man passed away! He did live a lenthy life though.
I finally found the only other magic shop other than the one down south street. Irv passed away and now I find out frankford magic is gone also..sorry to hear that .there is one magic shop in philly TRICKZONE even online shopping
he was my father. he passed away in march 2010. the store was located on frankford avenue, near church for almost 30 years, before that it was a couple blocks north near foulkrod for about 10-15 years, before that it was in center city philadelphia on 11th street, where jefferson hospital is now, for several years. the first store was located in germantown on germantown ave. about 60 years ago or so.
My aunt use to baby sit me and take me there as a kid, It was at Frankford and Church st. It smelled horrible inside but always had the craziest stuff.
Where exactly was his store? I used to work in Frankford at Domestic Uniform Rental, as a route-salesman. I guess I was there after his store closed, don't remember ever seeing it. It's a shame that area was so messed up. They tried to clean it up a little, of course they failed. I can remember an art gallery opening up. Co-workers that lived in the suburbs would say arrogant things. Like that gallery does not belong there. Never understood remarks like that.
