  • My favorite mobile OS will probably stay Windows Mobile (not Windows Phone). It was efficient and ran fast even on low end devices. It had some major downsides that killed it with the general public. Lack of a good UI, lack of a dedicated apps store, and lack of a webkit browser (so browsing was slow). All the tools were there though, especially for a network administrator. In fact Microsoft still suggests WinMo as a professional OS, while Windows Phone is really aimed at teenagers.

  • Android is decent it just doesn't work well on an ARMv6 device. Even with a JIT compiler, ARMv6 devices lag just running the OS. Sprint also has a lack of ARMv7 Android devices. They only have three as of right now, HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Epic 4G, and HTC EVO Shift 4G. All of which are 4G phones which include a $10 data premium and none of them work on my third party plan. So I just ordered the Pre and I really don't think I will regret it. It's got plenty of power, if not a bit ram starved.

  • WebOS is essentially a GUI for Linux, while Android is all run through a virtual machine. Which means WebOS should ALWAYS be faster per clock than Android. People have been known to run ARM ports of Linux programs directly on Palm Pre. With a decent redesign to take advantage of a HVGA screen you have access to tons of desktop programs. I've even seen someone run OpenOffice on their Pre, though it was slow and way too big for the screen. I've owned two Android phones, the Hero and the Moment.

  • Palm Pre should be getting WebOS 2.0 soon, which means full Flash 10.1. That should tilt the playing field back into the Pre's favor. Plus the Pre just has better hardware, ARMv7 is MUCH faster than ARMv6. The Pre also overclocks like a champ, some people even get it stable at 1.2 GHz. There is no phone running that fast at stock I believe. Palm Pre is what you make it really. WebOS is just as open (or possibly more so) than Android, since apps can be written more easily.

  • does this phone can are use android 2.2?

  • palm fails. android is allways updating android 2.1 runs flawless and the new hero looks so much better

  • palm pre is a girl phone

  • @pajamaninja95 ur gay for thinking like that.

  • @AzNboy346 and ur a bitch for defending it.

  • @pajamaninja95 ur a fag for replying back to my comment

  • @AzNboy346 You replied to my 4 month old comment first dumb fuck. But then again your a pussy who is defending a 2 year old phone when it is crap compared to the phones on the market right now.

  • @pajamaninja95 Sorry, ma'am.

You need to chill, just cuz i called you gay doesnt mean to hop on my dick and have a period over it. Now lets stop complaning about this. :D

  • hi phonedog,

love your reaviews they are very detailed,,, i am having trouble adding people why does it not work am i doing something wrong?

  • absolutely go Android.

Palm is outdated and limited. It takes more clicks to do things and you cant do as much.

  • wait.... what????? "outdated?" It is newer than Android! Obviously, you have not even touched a webOS device. Everyone agrees that webOS's UI is much smoother and simpler than Android's. The interface in webOS takes MANY MANY less "clicks" to get to where you're going. In almost every native application.

  • @ConservativeE to bad pre is selling their rights because they are failing

  • @daonejorge they sold them to hp, one of the top electronic manufacturers

  • i have a palm pre, never had a hero but looks kool.. palm needs to launch paid apps in canada =/

  • Fuzzy on my iPhone

  • The palm has a nicer view and im looking at these vidz to see what the palm is like im getting the palm pre pus in 2 months for my b-day nly vids out will be be watching all palm pre vids on the 25 or 26

  • @yaboydezzy184eva you should also look into the Palm Pre + ;)

  • Gonna go to sprint soon and can't decide which one to get the Palm Pre or the HTC Hero. Any suggestions?

  • @inmate120 without a doubt, go with the hero. i was a palm user for a long time and was nervous to switch to another phone but i switched to the hero and i am absolutely in love with this phone!

  • HTC hero... I already have mine and it's really nice! htc sense interface is great and the browser is very fast... take hero absolutly

  • get the hero if you havnt decided yet it has so much more then just what you see in the videos about it

  • @xkorneaterx same with pre though

  • cant decide on weather to get a Wight Hero of a brown/ black one?!?

  • white* ..?

  • HTC has so much more better looks then the pre (which looks sleek too) :)

  • PALM WINS

  • I find it very hard to text with the palm pre because the buttons are so fucking small!

  • we get it

  • i was think the same but now i have one pre i should to say, is fucking easy lol

  • I certainly don't care about the data/voice thing. My phone is CDMA.

  • I got a Pre and am taking it back...I'll be trying the Hero next. The reason is that the mic placement on the Pre is terrible! It is on the left side face of the phone. If you like to talk with the phone between your shoulder and face, forget it. No one will be able to hear you. Sometimes they can't even hear you when you hold the phone regular. I don't like using headsets and so I can't deal with it...which is sad because I want to like the Pre so much!

  • i think that that could be ignored... just talk a little louder lol

  • thats cuz the left hand is tha fashion hand and the pre is fashionable!

  • Is the Pre durable? Idk it kind of looks like it will break fairly easily compared to the Hero, and that's a huge issue for me, because I tend to destroy phones that are around the size of the pre haha

  • For my, Pre is the winner! Faster message writing, better interface, multi-taskig... Well done Palm =)

  • palm pre wins hands down....Looks better, better for text messaging, faster and dosent lag. web browsing is smooth and not glitchy like the HTC. HTC looks like its more customizable but im more concerned about how smooth the phone works. PALM PRE WINS FOR ME!

  • HTC WINS

  • im getting my pre in a couple days...cant wait. the pre will overcome, once they work out the fine kinks in WebOS. all of the new cell platforms has had slow starts. WebOS, android, and yes....even the iphone did. cmon they just updated it to where you can send MMS not to long ago lol. and there is a virtual keyboard that you can download for the pre...so until palm puts an official virtual keyboard on the pre (which im sure theyll do in the future) youll have to use that one.

  • is there keyboard in touchscreen or only keypad in pre

  • just keypad, but you can install it in touchscreen by hombebrew

  • i HATE that black dead space around android phones...like..i know htc know that thats the main reason iphone and pre look so much better...soooo...why not change it! and make that the whole screen!....i dont understand people who create phones....why not improve??? is it really that much of a fuckin hasel!!! gawd! that fone is so ugly! but i like it!....jus need to be prettier!!!! block lookin ass fone

  • Does the HTC hero slide to any type of keyboard? Please answer (:

  • no. its all touch. you can have the choice of landscape or portrait

  • nope, entirely touch. no slide

  • No, just on-screen keyboards

  • palm pre because simple is more useful

  • does the sense ui update like normal android cuz if notill get the the samsung q

  • Yo, I've sent and received text messages while on a voice call using Sprint. Anyone else?

  • Dude thats old. Ive been doing that for years on my Palm Treo.

  • But the guy doing this comparison at 5:38 says that the Hero wont be able to flip that because it's on Sprint network. Did I misunderstand him?

  • you can do the samethang on android phones

  • ummm a lot of phones can do that...my old ass flip phone can do that. actually my old ass flip phone can multitask better than the iphone. lol.

  • jailbreak the iphone and multitasking is no problem

  • can you have keyboard tones as well on the htc hero or just heptic feedback? noah anyone ??

  • i think the Palm Pre looks more sophisticated..but the HTC hero let's you do so much more customization.

  • i hate the swallowing, its extremely anoing

  • what the hell hes not even touching the screen he keeps missing wtf????? hes a tech guy

  • Android is a lot better than the pre. just by being open source says a lot. palm just doesnt click with me they release a phone and a month later its obsolete. i have a G1 and i absolutely love it my only complaint is T-mobile.

  • Agreed, open source is much appreciated. I've already finished 2 programs for the android platform :D

  • Just got my Palm Pre. No interest in the Hero at all. Thanks for the review.

  • as u wish but hero is the best

  • i like the palm pre

  • sry for stupid question..but what does UL mean? tnx for any answers!

p.s. both phones look great, but in slovenija u can get only hero for now..

  • its hardly usable...no good

  • the palm pre doesnt evn have a on screen keyboard. and its a touchscreen fone.

  • actually you can add one

  • how do you add one?

  • go to the precentral website they have a how-to on it

  • How do you add a touchscreen to the Pre?

  • go to the precentral website, there's an article on it

  • the screens too small

  • why the hell would you need a on screen keyboard when the keyboard is built in???

  • It doesn't seem to make much scine.

But I have a touch screen phone with a physical keyboard. The on screen one comes in handy though when the buttons are sticking.

  • you know those stupid txts that only include one of the following "lol, wtf, k, ok, ?", yeah the on screen becomes very handy because you dont have to flip open the phone and use both hands to type

  • its a touch screen phone. why do i have to leave landscape typing, lke win i am on the internet, and goto portrait mode to type. b 4 real.

  • Dude when is 3rd review out!!!!!

  • you said something about part 3 5 weeks ago, whats the hold up

  • noah where is part 3 ?? this series is taking a tad' bit too long : (

  • The Nokia N900 Makes Both Of These Phones Look Really Old.

  • Lg Vu, Lg Neon, and Palm Centro??

    Which one??

  • None.They all suck :D

  • i like the multitasking on on webOS better

but i like the hero customization options

  • dude, why are you behaving like nuts???

HTC HERO has everything you can think of.

  • Palm Pre is looking better from these comparisons so far. Seems like the Pre is more user friendly and intuitive. Not really sure how you switch between open applications with the Hero or how you open another program while you are inside of another. With the Pre you just slide up from beneath the screen or go into card view. I also like the fact that with the Pre you just start typing and it asks you if you want to search wikipedia/google/maps/etc. Bookmarks look nicer on the Pre too.

  • i have got iphone 3G and i am gonna exchange it for the HTC HERO (the best phone out in the market ) when it arrives.

i can't compromise for the limitations of iphone esp. the flash. i find it a HORRIBLE experience to use any phone WITHOUT FLASH.

    anywez, thanks for the video....!

  • you can get flash on an iphone by jailbreaking

  • flash is completely garb looks st*pid on the iphone(doesn't work)...and moreover htc hero has many more attractive features...

so HTC HERO for me ....

  • no its great

  • how did you get the htc hero?!?! that baby isn't even available anywhere in north america! it's so sexy , well the UI at least, it murders the iphone!

  • There are unlocked versions around, check eBay. They're GSM though so you won't have any 3g.

  • phonedog is popular and companies send them phones to review. and ucan just buy the hero from europe or ebay . its not hard to obtain a htc hero, but its not pratical since no hero currently supports 3g

  • you should review the new chocolate!

  • Everyone who keeps saying iPhone is better, I want you to try something. I want you to try using Safari and any other app at the same time! Oh and your lucky the update came out just recently otherwise you wouldn't be able to copy and paste....

  • you can listen to music at the same time.

  • Andriod look very interesting, still is too "screamy", not an elegant design. Palm Pre looks better in my opinion but both are just at the baby step of what they will turn into.

Apple will have to come up with something good to top these phones and I know they will come with SOMETHING, future will tell.

Multitasking iPhone and an updated UI is something they need to bring to the market, multitasking is hard with the UI they have now I think.

  • Noah Its all software related - what i mean is, it can be fix by HTC firmware or like iphone have apps .. it can be updated

  • iphone doesn't have these features....so these phones must be way ahead of iphone.

  • I hope Android gets the same type of message integration as the Pre

  • i think noah is the best phone expert

  • i agree!

  • iphone is overrated. what they should be known for is showing features even the most simplest phones had. Voice dialing, video sending, voice gps. They are showing it off like we have seen these things years ago already. Yeah they have alot of apps but half of those apps are useless. The other half you may only need once.

  • thats because your hero only runs on edge

  • Very Easily.

  • You take the iPhone 3GS, add multi tasking like the Pre does it, add notifications like the Pre or Android do it, add Android's openness (meaning no Apple telling you what's best for you), release it on all major carriers (meaning you'll get SMS because you won't be using AT&T), and add in an LED light to visually notify you of a missed notification.

    Ultimate phone right there.

  • htc hero is the best amongst palm pre and iphone i think

  • you know i wonder... Noah reviews so many phones a week... what is HIS Phone... what phone does he carry around??? Lol just a thought

  • iPhone 3GS

  • I think he carries an iphone

  • palm pre looks better hands down, but thats abut it

  • You gotta do something about the strange music in the intro. I don't know how many of us really likes it, but personally I am not a big fan.

That being said, I love your video reviews! :)

  • true that... loose the music noah

  • The Hero is a more wellrounded phone, but I can't deal with that lag. I'm very content with my Palm Pre (rooted of course).

  • smh

  • Hero <3 definatly getting it when and if it comes to sprint :3

  • My vote is for the Palm Pre..

  • Palm Pre for the Win!!!!!

  • no no...look at The HERO its a much better phone...look wise and mostly everything else

  • Entirely your opinion. I have a Palm Pre and this shit rocks!!!!!

  • good vid noah..but its taking to long for the uploading of the vids !!! i want to know who is going to win!!!!

    hero !!!!

  • supposedly they pushed out or are pushing out an update now

  • no hd on this video why???

  • its not fully processed, give it a couple hours and it should be in HD.

  • does anyone know if the T-mobile myTouch 3G can change its UI to the SENSE UI like the HTC hero?!?!

  • it cant be updated officially from htc because of the with google branding but

u could root ur phone and then add the rom which works really smooth

multitouch and flash on mytouch 3g

  • Keep the great work Noah! I watch all of your videos and they are always great!

  • What happen to the HD:(

  • hero looks pretty cool but i still love the g1 keyboard

  • I'm rootin 4 tha hero on dis one even tho I played wit a pre today and it waz pretty cool and sleek I'm juss feelin da android platform a lotta bit mo

  • whos still talking about the palm pre...

  • Are you serious? You such a fan boy.

  • Great video quality. (Sarcastic) Use a better camera.

  • It's processing... The video was just uploaded and it needs time to gain full quality. Think before you post.
