@nanlisa I think parents need to set reasonable expectations. When I was a teen(only a few years ago), for the most part I knew two types of kids who went bad: the ones whose parents let them get away with anything, and the ones whose parents wouldn't let them do anything. My father was patient and trusted me, so I had enough freedom to do these things if I had wanted to, but felt an obligation to do well for him. There needs to be a balance.

I focus on marijuana because I'm a smoker. my mother had the best approach to drugs and alcohol, because she didn't lie to me about them unlike you probably would to your kid. A magical safe house? No, I got it where ever I could, it helped with my insomnia, of which no one believed I really had. So it was my medicine, the only decent way I could get sleep. I went into the bad neighborhoods and dealt with the worst people at 13-15 years old. My parents thinking I was close to home.

@Martial024 The whole issue is that pot is illegal unless you have a Cabanas card and if medical cabanas is legal in your state. The parents are not caring for their child and throwing parties with known gang members. I do believe pot can be used for some medical conditions, as long as it is prescribed by a doctor.

When I was 13 in order to get a source that would maintain a constant reliable supply that could deliver I had to go downtown and ask random people until I found someone, it took awhile, got robbed and close to beaten up quite a few times.

My parents thought they could see me the whole time, kids will always find a way to get around their parents or have their friends help them Its best to provide it safe.
