Carnage Visors sounds so very much like elements of Joy Division's music, especially parts of Closer. I know that JD played on the same bill as The Cure in 1979/80. Their music must have had a profound effect on Robert.
Heard this on the flipside of a rare US cassette version of the 'Faith' album I found in a record store I worked in '95. Such an atmospheric piece, always evokes the feeling of a foggy morning for me. Amazed to find a clip of it on here - The Wonder of You(tube)! 'Faith' has some amazing music on it too: All Cats Are Grey, The Holy Hour, the title track and most of all The Funeral Party. "A dream in a mist of grey" as Syd Barrett would say
Setting aside the film itself and all the associated apocrypha; is anyone else like me in thinking that, in a certain sense, this soundtrack is the best thing The Cure ever did?
Yeh, it's pretty amazing. People don't talk about it much, but it's a great piece of music. It was made during what I consider The Cure's greatest period. I remember playing it on my car cassette player when me and my buddies drove into the city from the suburbs going out for the night. It was the perfect soundtrack. Did this ever get released digitally? - Andy
If you ever have the opportunity to meet Lol, take advantage of it. He is extremely warm and approachable, he'll talk about any Cure history questions you want to ask, just be cool and leave out the rough stuff. Don't be a jerk and he'll tell you all kinds of cool stories. By the way, the pissing on Billy Idol's leg story IS true (confirmed with Lol, and later than night with Simon in Roger O'Donnell's hotel room).
So yeah, a few bits of crap. No 45 minute version, and Lol does still have a copy of the film. When asked he said, and I quote: "I understand why fans have been asking for it because it's been built up so much, but when you see it you will be disappointed. It was a very good idea, but a very awful film. I mean, if Robert ever does decide to put it out I hope he does it free of charge, I'd feel like people were getting ripped off otherwise."
However, I DID take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions about the recording of Carnage Visors. The so-called 45 minute recording does not exist. However, he DID confirm that the 'second version' available on certain pressings of the "Faith" cassette 'does' exist. you can tell the difference because right before the actual song starts, you'll hear two very faint tones that sound like a detuned guitar. So all this stuff about a 45 minute version is baloney.
The film has since disappeared and only Lol Tolhurst, Robert Smith, and Simon Gallup own copies of it, though during a televised interview in the mid-1980s, the host of the program surprised the band by playing a clip of the film on a television that was on the set.
Tks a million for sharing that great film .. does anyone got the 27 min. version .... I would love to see that or buy a copy ... Feel free to drop me a line mrpinkeyes80
I met Lol at Inland Invasion in 2003. Yes, Lol was at the show in the audience and watched the set up through "The Walk". He and I and my bassist sat at a table out in the VIP section and talked for a good hour or so (he also bummed most of my pack of smokes). I'll tell you, I was actually nervous meeting him. I mean, you've all heard the stories....I decided it would be best to leave the hard stuff out of the conversation (the lawsuit, disitengration etc)...

Wow! great to finally see some of it, though it wasn't at all like I'd imagined it from descriptions. But thanks SO much! You should post the non-zoomed-in version just for comparison!
excellent stuff!.Amazing how some of the cure`s early and best era`s come to light after all these years.I wish rob would realease more eariest demos etc from tapes.I bet he has a messy cuboard full.Wish I was at the faith tour and seen the full backdrop of this:).Thanks for posting,a true gem.
Thank you very much! I suppose the film on "Carnage visors" could be interesting even in image aspect.
