And Edlsel Ford II who was working for Ford Australia said he would give dollar for dollar in what was raised in public donations to Dick Johnson after the rock accident. To be reported over $70,000 was donated by the public (which was matched by Ford Australia) to get him back on track for the following season.
@poetview, well not only that, Dickey was donated another XD falcon from one of the other teams as well, everyone that supported not only Dick Johnson also showed they love the sport itself. Thats real dedication.
@fairmontxf87 Car #9 became car #17 after the shootout crash of Dick Johnson in 1983. And that came about after Dick Johnson purchased a Holden Commodore to be used by the car #9 Ford Falcon team to replace the Falcon that DJR then set about converting into Car #17 over night before the race. (Of your comment. I am of the opinion you maybe confusing the two events of the 'Tru-Blu'1980 Falcon and the 1983 'Greens-Tuff' Falcon. -
@iceman83458345 Yes, that is Economaki. That was something Seven did in the time, and Ken Squier observed the racecams, which meant CBS brought them Stateside for Daytona months later. And that story was discussed considering Mike Joy and Darrell Waltrip will be trackside for the US commentary box for the Thousand.
Did they end up putting up fences at spectator areas after this deal?

Chris Economaki. Wow what a great, professional, genuine & humble gentleman. A great natural talent at motor racing pit reporting. Just awesome
