Only one problem with this otherwise-sublime video: it cuts at the worst possible moment --- 2 bars before the repeat of the exposition! ARG! ;)

I recently heard the resident quartet of New England Conservatory play this (with another professional quartet). They played from Mendelssohn's ORIGINAL manuscript, not the edited version. Some parts were completely different music. I like the original better, I can't imagine why Mendelssohn wanted to change it.

I am ashamed of being a classical music patron for so long but only just heard this piece the first time this morning on Performance Today. I have to say the third movement sounds a bit too "Mozartesque", but I nearly dropped tears for this opening movement!

Don´t be ashamed. I am 63 years old and have been listening to classical music since I was a teenager. I still continue to find endless new music that I never heard.

Do you know how many Bach cantatas there, Scarlatti sonatas, Rachmaninoff pieces, Wagner operas, and the list is endless even if you live to be 163.

By far the best performance of this piece that I have heard so far on You-Tube. This is a first violin concerto, but I'm always amazed at the contributions of the other instruments in the way this piece is written.
