@TheBlazingkidtes While SF is a cross between several arcade fighting games released before it. Most notably Data East's 1984 Karate Champ and Konami's 1985 Yie Ar Kung-Fu. Konami's 1985 Galactic Warriors, Martech's Brian Jacks Uchi Mata and Culture Brain's Shanghai Kid are also worth noting.
@ThePatrickinator Fight Fever is to Rocky V. Many say they are bad, but it's still far from "0" rating like what Sylvester Stallone said. At least it's better than Fatal Fury 1 in gameplay, but not originality. See one of the videos I uploaded, read its description and you'll understand that it's more like a tribute to SNK's Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, as well as the specific designers of them and Street Fighter 1, who most likely assisted Fight Fever's main creator Viccom.
One funny thing is that Han Baedal is the "South Korean Ryu" of this game, he practices tae-kwon-do, even though he uses a japanese karate move to throw HADOKENS...
@chinitosoccer1 More like a tribute to Ryu and Ryo Sakazaki, which were both created by the same creator. Han Baedal's move set is a mixture of Ryu's and especially Ryo Sakazaki's.
@VonOverlord Then how come SFII get's to borrow/steal ideas from Data East's 1984 Karate Champ and Konami's Yie Ar Kung-Fu, while other company's don't get to borrow/steal ideas from SFII? That's not fare.
@1983parrothead SFII definitely should get credit for helping the fighting game genre "break out", but honestly, and this is just an opinion, the King of Fighters series is far superior. Unfortunately there are a lot of fans who are uninformed and think SF started it all and thats clearly not the case. Not to mention that its those same fans who think SF II is the end all be all of fighting games and systems. They need to seriously expand their horizons. There is so much out there.
@GoongalaGoongala dude trust let me just say street fighter is my fighting game roots and ive played every snk fighting game from yours streets smarts, fatal furies, art of fightings kofs and all of data easts stuff like your karate champs and your fighters histories ur outlaws of lost dynasties there was that one game from taito that i forgot wat its called none the less whether or not kof is better than sf or not capcom is everything snk wats to be
@GoongalaGoongala not to mention snks first fighting game art of fighting was was a street fighter rip off theyre secound fighting game fatal fury wasnt a rip off but a an sf clone kof stopped being an sf clone by kof 96
@1983parrothead you and all the other snk neo geo nazis who always bring that up are fucking retarded karate champ and sf1 have nothing in common sf1 uses a joy stick and 6 buttons karate champ only uses 2 joysticks some cab-nits used 1 joystick and 1 button in karate champ u start out training in a karate dojo then u keep fighting 1 guy in yie ar kung fu has more in common with sf1 except ur a kung fu guy in china fighting kung fu fighters
@1983parrothead in sf1 ur a karate guy fighting diffrent martial artists from different countries o and if ye ar kung fu is so original see the sequel martial champion on wikipedia now whats stealing what also read the comments i wrote to goongalagoongala
@mrfeelgoodful SF1 in 1P Mode = Yie Ar Kung-Fu. SF1 in 2P Mode = Karate Champ. It also uses Shanghai Kid's special moves idea, and Brian Jacks Uchi Mata's hidden moves + motion controls idea. In SFII, add Shanghai Kid's combo system and Galactic Warriors' different multiple playable character roster.
And I'm not really a Capcom nor SNK fan, I research to find and reveal facts. See also FightingStreet . com's Ripoffs pages.
@1983parrothead XD sry its just that i thought you were bashing capcom and as a capcom fanboy i had to stand up maybe i was being bias a little towards sf but none the less fighting games always steal stuff from each other whether its capcom, data east, konami, snk, sega i mean look at the upcoming kof xiii snk wants to capture an american adience which is wat theyve been trying to do for years now with kof xiii they are stealing stuff from 3rd strike
@TimelordR Because this was Viccom's first game. Usually when a company creates their first game, it doesn't become good enough nor original. Taito, SNK, Namco, Irem, Konami and even Nintendo created clones during their first years of business. There is an old saying: "The first step is always the hardest."
@RocMegamanX The Eye of Typhoon is obscure, because it was released exclusively in Korea for the 3DO and MS-DOS PCs.
If Viccom spent more time developing Fight Fever, it probably would have been as good as (if not better than) The Eye of Typhoon, while The Eye of Typhoon would probably be nearly twice as good, while possibly be released worldwide. It worked for Visco in spending more work time before releasing Breakers in 1996, instead of 1993/1994 as Tenrin no Syo Chicago / Crystal Legacy.
I watched a playthrough video of Fight Fever at Nico Nico Douga, and noticed that a lot of people were saying "KOF94" or "KOF*something*" during the part where the letter flies into the picture frame. They are most likely saying the letter is based on the ones seen in the KOF series. The picture frame shattering also reminds me of the intro of Art of Fighting 1. Karate Kenji was voiced by Masaki Usui, who also voiced Haohmaru and Ryo Sakazaki.
Another thing I would like to point out is that some chars do not use Tae-Kwon-Do at all like Miyuki, Nick Commando, Chintao, Magic Dunker and Golrio. WTH?
I actually find it to be kind of interesting fighting game, quite retro actually. I never played it myself, but here I see that the entire play style is a combination of Fatal Fury 1 with Art of Fighting 1. The bonus stages reminded me a lot of Street Fighter 1.
Because alot of video game companies saw the success of SF2 and try to create the next big thing. There were some popular ones (AOF, Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown, Mortal Kombat), but the rest was pure fail.
This is more of a cross between Street Fighter 1 (bonus stages + challenging controls), Street Fighter II (modern fighting game design), Fatal Fury (intro + final boss) and Art of Fighting (several moves, including super moves). I'm guessing that Viccom (now Unotechnology) was practicing, before they did better with The Eye of Typhoon, which was released for MS-DOS PCs and the 3DO.
