@S1lv3rdo7 thanks . i am 13 now and i am doing the solos next year, but i am against all the adults time time because i have been made to go in the open. i know i wont win but hopeing to come at least 4th or something
1) play with more expression- it isn't about throwing in as many notes as possible, add some feeling to the playing(spacing, "pushing and pulling the beat", dynamics)
2) work on the basic rudiments, every proffesional drummer is going to tell you to master the basics.
3) don't look at the judge while you are playing. Just get into your own zone when you compete in solos
I agree, work on the spacing of the notes. Use a metronome and learn to work around the beat. Pulling and pushing it. Very impressive for 10yrs old.

i play for muy school pipe band im the youngest drummer in the school but in the pipe band which is like 14+ people!
